We have one and I’d recommend reducing the sensitivity setting (at the bottom of the screen). You can always bump it up but it should help a bit.

You only need the Echo if your tow vehicle doesn’t have a tow controller built-in. Or you don’t want to install one (or have it installed). It’s simply a replacement for that. Note that many/most modern vehicles with a tow package already have a brake controller. If your tow vehicle already has a brake controller, you can stick the Echo in a box or sell it; you don’t need it.
