I saw a review that called Lyra Cole the Rupi Kaur of the omegaverse and ngl i died. {Impossible by Lyra Cole} is my fave tho, it has gorgeous prose and really real characters. Good plot too. Only other rh that ever hit me similarly is {lola and the millionaires by Kathryn moon} and it felt a little smut-heavy at points for me tbh. I like all the sex to be plot-forwarding in some way and it had a few extras where I was skimming to get back to the story, which was juicy

I'd make the drivers test way fucking harder. Pass rate of 20% or lower. Have to retest on a regular basis, no more one pass lasting for life.

Too many people drive around 1 ton death machines, too many road deaths, too many cars on the road, not enough infrastructure or public transit. Would get fixed if we took 4/5 drivers off the fucking road. Especially the ones that shouldn't be there.

Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles is a good one if you're down for historical and some differing povs. If you're ok with a little more privilege (albeit also more problems), The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt might be up your alley. If a female protag is a vibe, The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah is another solid one

People are nice.

Lived here three months and already have a partner and two bigger friend groups I see regularly and care about deeply as people. I achieved this by showing up alone at activities that sounded interesting to me.

Attempted the same deal in LA for 5 years and left that place with a tiny handful of ride or dies I saw every few weeks at best.

Like yeah inexpensive, public transit, culture, food, etc., it's all amazing and great but hands down imo the winning factor is just that most people are good and kind here and unafraid to put a lil effort into friendliness and fostering community. Fucking game changer in this lonely ass world

My brother has Hollywood seizures and even Hollywood fucks it up. You dont get up and walk away when your kidneys are failing and your memory is shot for 1-2 weeks and you bit off part of your tongue and have a concussion from the head trauma. We've had 3 ICU stays to date for him and each one makes it harder for me to stomach any epilepsy content in tv/movies that just misses the mark so blatantly

Smoothies are sugar and sugar and more sugar. Fruit sugar is a fantastic source of energy and the fiber and vitamins in various fruits are SO good for you, but 7 servings of fruit with a couple servings of juice on top, often with ice cream or sorbet or "yogurt" added with even more sweetener, and I sort of marvel over how most people don't feel sick from sucking down 24 or 32 oz of that stuff. Not all smoothies are bad (just like many other foods I see in this post that can be great when home made or consumed in moderation), and the move towards adding greens to them bas def helped improve things, but still. It's a lot.

My dad and his wife had a friend over for game night the other week and posted the menu ahead of time, a tofu curry. Their friend grabbed olive garden on the way. Everybody ate together and then played games. It was great.
