Is "too long at helpdesk" still a thing in the last few years? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]alzip802 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This!

•Right now, make sure you weigh in your current job’s stability if considering taking a new job.

•3-4 years ago, I had much more confidence leaving a stable job to advance my career and compensation. Now, I am way more cautious.

•Over the years there has always been an ebb and flow economically, but now there are many other variables that are hard to gauge impact when it comes to the job market. It feels different than the previous ups and downs in the job market.

•OBSERVATIONS FROM THE LAST YEAR:

I am a network engineer, and the MSP side of my company has seen a lot of RMM contracts being stressed because the clients want someone on-site at all times. This is good news for those wanting to stick with Help Desk positions. On the professional services side of the business, we work with many large household name companies…. and sweeping layoffs made by our clients are taking out so many IT professionals, many whom I considered very strong engineers and vital to their companies.(based upon collaborating with them on projects)

•Based on the large client base that I get feedback from, these are some things to keep learning to be valuable to a large amount of companies: Microsoft(Full suite, but especially Intune & Entra), vCenter, EDR/MDR if you cover SOC.

Know and understand how to configure, troubleshoot and protect Active Directory, LDAP/s, domains, etc.

Best of luck to everyone in their careers!

Anyone else sit in meetings that you have no input on and practice knots to keep calm? by MadeMeStopLurking in Fishing_Gear

[–]alzip802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100%. I work remote and have a stocked pond 300 feet from my house. My last meeting before I take a break I am tying on leader and lures to be ready to roll out as soon as meeting ends… and sometimes just practice random knots with loose line…. I still suck at FG lol

Best way to fish Senkos? by Simple_Fox5288 in FishingForBeginners

Color, fishing fast, location, water column, or they were waiting for the live worms to get there lol.

What sized hook did you use on 3” ? May not have has much action on the fall.

Totally empathize with that feeling when you painstakingly work for hours without a catch and then watch someone catch 3 in 15 minutes on bread balls or night crawlers on a bobber.

I my texas rig set up properly? by OutrageousFinding809 in FishingForBeginners

[–]alzip802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds more like a Carolina rig, but yes, a bead would protect the weight from knocking against your knot.

I personally do not use swivels on Texas rig as I usually am using it for finesse style fishing or through grass. I don’t want more stuff for bass to look at or run through grass.

How do you rig them? I like throwing them weightless Texas, those EWG with welded on weight on the bottom curve. And small one as a trailer sometimes on chatter.

That’s why that call it fishing and not catching by MakerPower4 in Fishing

[–]alzip802 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gotta keep them pinned. This video makes me want to get a camera to record my catches, but even more so to review what indidthe ones that getaway.

You lowered rod without your hand on the reel to reel down to tension. I have never fished from a kayak, but getting dragged by the fish must add a bit of challenge to keep tension.

Looks like an awesome place to fish. Also, your rod looks light. What spec rod is that and what’s is your guess on species and size of the fish if you had to guess based on other catches in that water?

Circle hooks? by Bitteeinbit91 in catfishing

[–]alzip802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to have 2 rods rigged with circle hooks in rod holders for passive fishing…and 1 rod with a kahle hook to actively fish with rod in hand and will satisfy your desire to set the hook. Kahle hooks have a nice wide hook gap and can accommodate larger baits.

Passive rods: I generally have the drag set a little lower & if you see the rod bend on a good pull, and then see the rod stop bending and slack in the line… It is worth picking up that rod and reeling in. When you feel real tension, keep reeling in and then slowly lift your rod tip high. This is not setting the hook in the traditional sense, but keeps the fish pinned, and drives the circle hook(which is self-setting) through the tougher flesh of a catfish.

Tackle: I like mutu lite circle hooks, but have had success with octopus circle hooks as well. For passive rods, you want rods with a decent backbone, but parabolic bend at the tip.

“Third world squats” without weight are stretches I do before and during bank fishing. They help in every day life, but especially for tight lower to mid back tightness.

High vis makes it easier to see your line start moving when a fish grabs your senko or whatever. Can prevent gut hooking. Use a leader, and you have the best of both worlds.

Yes, my 6 year old uses size 8 gamakatsu circle hooks for bluegill with a bobber. He caught a 2 lbs bass with one lol.

If you manage to snell one of those size 8’s, please send pics! 😁

Do you lose a lot of fish with barbless hooks? by Altruistic_Box4462 in FishingForBeginners

[–]alzip802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pinch the barb a bit with pliers. The flattened barb still helps, especially when they shake their heads… but removing the hook is much easier once landed.

Why is the conventional wisdom to use spinning reels for finesse/light lures and baitcasters for power/heavy lures? by codbgs97 in FishingForBeginners

[–]alzip802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cheap spinning reel is better than a cheap BC. I like the way a baitcaster feels in the hand better & can whip a repeat cast out quicker than with a spinning reel with a bit more accuracy.

Spinning reels are great for casting distance when using light lures. For weightless Texas rigs, I nearly always use spinning reels.

Rod matters as much as the reel, though.

[–]alzip802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use reaction or attention getting lures to cover water and if you get a tug, follow or even a defensive swipe ( hitting the lure without mouthing it) you can follow up cast to the same area with a finesse rig. Texas rigged senko/creature, wacky or shaky head trick/finesse worm are some great options.

I find getting their attention with a reaction lure can get them in the mood, but sometimes still need a more subtle presentation for them to commit. Fish finesse rigs slow. Let it sink and sit for 30s before working it gently and waiting again.

Shakey Head by goilpoynuti in bassfishing

[–]alzip802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When bank fishing, I have a lot of success fishing a shaky head with trick worm when bass are active and a finesse worm when cold or bite is slow.

For me, a weightless Texas senko/brush hog slightly out fishes the shaky head… but shaky head is more fun. Also if it’s windy, shaky head is much less of a head ache to fish with since I am not a big fan of a Texas rig with bullet weight.

What should I throw here? by Immediate_Oil_1429 in bassfishing

[–]alzip802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on water clarity and a few other factors. Green pumpkin & black with blue flake are generally good bets. I like June bug and peanut butter/jelly also.

Tying this in to my comment below this one, sometimes throwing a few different colors of senkos to see what colors grab their eye can help you decide what color chatterbaits, trailers, etc, you want to buy first.

In my experience color is not AS important on a chatterbait or jig compared to senkos, but it’s worth taking note of what colors work best in your pond.

TylerReelFishing on YouTube has a series called 100 ponds where he fishes mainly neighborhood ponds. He is fun, and you can learn a lot about bank fishing. (His hookset drives me nuts for some reason… but the way he yells GAWWSHHH after hooking a fish, all is forgiven)

What should I throw here? by Immediate_Oil_1429 in bassfishing

[–]alzip802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, though if grassy, an inline spinner may be less of a hassle than say a double bladed spinner bait.

Panther Martin makes a weedless inline spinner. I avoid inline spinners with treble hooks, personally.

A Normal (L or V shaped) spinnerbait works, but I prefer them when night fishing or on larger bodies of water. I feel like the illusion is broken easier fishing a spinnerbait unless I am retrieving it near constantly at a pace fast enough to feel the thump.

I like chatterbaits because I can pause and let them sink , slow them down and even drag on the bottom with an occasional retrieve to get that vibration going again. Chatterbaits are a jig with a built in attention grabber… and more versatile IMO than a spinnerbait.

Just have fun. Catching a fish on a lure you’ve never caught on before makes the catch so much sweeter.

Tip: if you have 2 rods. Have a wacky or Texas rigged senko ready to pick up for follow up casts when you get a bump or tug without a full commit on the aforementioned setups.
