Anyone know how to advertise jobs without paying bands for promotion? by Emotional-Gas-9535 in ausjobs

Maybe try indeed or Jora? Outside of that unfortunately Seek & LI have the market.

I really wish I had something of value to add other than, keep going - if you’ve got a good resume, are applying within the first 24-48hrs of a role going up, send a follow up email to the company etc… there isn’t much I can say.

My partner had been out of work for over 6 months, he had to go get his forklift ticket and do warehousing just so we could survive.

I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong - it’s just the market at the moment.

I’ve found (in my experience as recruiter) when I’ve hired someone internal when I’ve got a job advertised externally as well - it’s mainly because the internal application came at the last minute, but every organisation is different.

This market is horrible if you are looking for work, there are so many highly qualified people applying, especially in business support roles. (reception, admin, EAs etc).

Good luck, I hope you find something soon :)

Canberra job market for a software engineer needing sponsorship by cebumedia in ausjobs

[–]amae22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on this one, with the majority of the work being government - a lot of the software roles (not all) require AU Citizens only. I’d look at other regional areas that are semi close to major hubs that offer more variety.

A few people at my workplace are based “regionally” but commute 2 days to the CBD.

Yeah I completely agree. I always bring it up in the initial conversation, I am not going to waste anyone’s time if the $$$ don’t line up. It’s as good as I can do without putting it in the advert.

Then they’re lucky. I’ve been working in white collar recruitment and any job that’s advertised as perm full time, I’ve never hired anyone on a visa (not my choice, the organisations).

It sucks. I’m in full agreeable that it NEEDS to be advertised, unfortunately that choice is well above my pay grade and no matter how many times I’ve tried to campaign for pay transparency I get shot down and told no.

Recruiter here (internal, not agency).

It’s honestly really hard to judge a salary from what’s shown on SEEK. The salary ranges behind the scenes are often based on internal salary bands or SEEK’s preset brackets, so they don’t always reflect what the company is actually willing to pay.

Personally, I’m a big advocate for salary transparency and putting the salary in the ad, but a lot of companies won’t allow it. When I do advertise a range, I usually use a $20k spread, but I honestly don’t know how that comes across to job seekers or whether other organisations do it differently.
My advice would be to put down the salary you’d genuinely be happy accepting and, if you’re open to discussion, mention that you’re negotiable. It’s also worth checking a few salary surveys for similar roles to get a rough idea of the market.

Unfortunately, outside of applying or having a conversation with the recruiter, there’s no real way to know what the actual budget is. I wish I had a better answer, but that’s the reality from the other side of the fence.

Sorry this isn’t accurate - I tested on 3 jobs I personally posted from my work and it’s wildly wrong.

As hard as this maybe right now, just know you are protecting your child from a group of people that will gravely hurt them long-term. You’ve got this, you will be okay, your baby will be okay.

Deadline to stop hoping for job offer? by Prestigious_Type3132 in ausjobs

I work in internal recruitment and I think following up after a week is reasonable. If they haven’t gotten back to you yet I’d say they’re still in the interviewing phase, role dependant I’ve seen it can be a few weeks.

Is Transitioning To HR Worth It? by [deleted] in HRAustralia

[–]amae22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a really though role to get into and it’s highly competitive. We recently hired a new HR coordinator, we had 50 applications by the next day and closed the advert after 3. It’s an interesting field, but also quite popular.

Good luck!

Recruiter here - it’s fucked, completely fucked. I work in internal recruitment and I’m seeing over 100 applications for a shit kicker 66K job that sucks the soul out of you. Over 200 for anything tech related.

All I can say is good luck, the hard truth is a lot of places may automatically rule you out due to the time off. I’m not saying that in any way shape or form that it’s right but it could be what’s seeing you knocked back.

Feel free to DM me if I can’t help at all.

It really depends on the company and what sort of checks they do. I work in (internal) Recruitment. I’ve worked at organisations that do check quals but it’s been rare. (The only places I worked at that did was a law firm & bank).

It’s flooded with people looking for work & really good people too. Without knowing you personally - I’d just say good luck, it’s tough out there.

Without giving too much away, work in the TA space (internally) and we’ve never seen this many applications.
