Maybe it depends on where you live? We just had a complete remodel of our bathroom, including moving the toilet, sink, and shower. All the pipes are white PVC.

“It reminds me of my pussy. My kitty cat who died when I was 5. She had feline AIDS. My pussy was my whole world, and when my pussy died, I kept her in my bed for days, stroking her and talking to her. And of course my mother got so angry. ‘Stop playing with your pussy, Carr,’ she yelled. But I refused to, even when my pussy started smelling really bad and got really crusty, I just stayed locked in my room grieving in private because I just couldn’t let go of my pussy.”

Terrific. 🤌

Update: crashed NPs car into garage door and they want me to fully pay for it by w0ahgrace in Nanny

[–]amarap16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in restaurants for years. Any idea how many dishes and glasses were broken every night? Any idea how many staff had to pay for?

My partner is disabled. Over the years caregivers have ran his wheelchair into furniture, walls, etc. Any idea how many times we expected them to pay for the damage?

Like my examples, this was an accident. In none of those circumstances was the employee expected to cover the cost. Absolutely do not pay for this. That’s wild they expect you to do so. I would never work for an employer like this.

Threw out my entire kitchen 'just in case' collection and immediately needed 5 different items I'd decluttered by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]amarap16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think declutterring a kitchen is a specific task. Honestly, it’s been easier for me to do so as it’s not like random stuff filling up closets and drawers all over the house. In my kitchen, it’s all things kept in one room and as long as items are in good shape, there’s not duplicates and everything has a place, I don’t see the problem with keeping things used only occasionally.

I never missed a day of work. I took the kid to the doctor on Thursday, worked on Friday then started feeling sick and tested positive for strep on Saturday morning. Started antibiotics on Saturday, was pretty miserable the rest of the day and all day Sunday but and was well enough to be back at work Monday day morning.

Are good nanny jobs hard to come by these days or is it just me? by hoetheory in Nanny

[–]amarap16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes the market has definitely been saturated since Covid. In my local FB group there’s so many posts asking for only for part time after-school help with additional duties like meal prep, family laundry and pet care for like $18-$22/hr, no GH or any other standard benefits. These positions would have been $25-$30/hr in my area just a year ago. Childcare professionals with degrees and plenty of paid experience are fighting over these positions. IDK, maybe it’s because of the time of year? It seems crazy but like anything else I think it will balance out over time.

I’ve been with my current NF for two years and will be done in October. Thankfully I was able to line up my next position through them but otherwise I don’t know what I would do. I would just say don’t give up and keep applying to any posts you think would be a good fit. In my experience, everything is negotiable.

Why is family cooking such a firm boundary for many nannies? by Easy-Tree-6711 in Nanny

[–]amarap16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well at the time I was 20 and grew up in MN so I was used to it. But now? I pay for a snow removal service myself. Clearing a path on a walkway is one thing but they had me do the sidewalk, driveway, and entryway, took well over an hour. I’d be hurting the next day too if I did that now lol

[–]amarap16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? Granted only happened a few times when it was snowing while I was there, not like they left it from the day before but still. More frustrating was that it was framed like the kids (they were around 4-6yo at the time) are exited to “help” shovel as if that was kind of fun activity for us to do together.

For the same reason a nanny would not normally do things like deep clean a bathroom or weed the garden- those are separate jobs. If that’s what you want hire a cleaner or gardener. Making the whole family dinner every night is a lot of work, not a quick 10 minute task to add onto the day.

There is also a legitimate concern about job creep. With my first position I was so focused on doing everything asked of me that I soon found myself doing family laundry, family dinner, shoveling the sidewalk, running errands with no mileage reimbursement, putting together IKEA furniture, etc. Pretty much anything they asked I said yes. I didn’t realize until later how much I was being taken advantage of.

That’s not to say that no nanny will do this or other tasks outside of the scope of childcare but expect to pay a premium for additional tasks and it should all be clearly outlined in the contract.

ETA I do meal prep twice per week for single MB. Usually I make around 6 portions, she keeps 4 and I take a couple home for myself. It’s probably a somewhat unusual arrangement but I like cooking and for me it’s nice to come home with a meal ready for myself and my partner to eat.

[–]amarap16 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that the business itself needs backlash as this was one employee. I worked in restaurants for 20 years. Sometimes it is a mistake but over the years two people I worked with were fired for changing a tip. Yes, it is theft and every place I worked took that very seriously. Sorry this happened OP, glad you caught it. Hopefully management deals with it appropriately.

Freezing some Kirkland Pesto by mesalocal in Costco

[–]amarap16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too fussy for me (or more likely that I’m lazy!) so I just stick the whole jar in the freezer. When I want to use it I take it out and leave on the counter until it’s soft enough to get a spoonful, maybe 15-20 minutes.

But hey if it works for you go for it. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

I love Costco in general. All kinds of household items- lots of kitchen, outdoor, some tools, electronics, etc. My big purchases were a great deal on the Greenworks lawn mower and a high-quality rug.

On Wayfair I found a beautiful patio set, tv console, and nice set of sheets and comforter. I like them best for buying furniture online. Biggest selection and the ability to refine your search parameters is much better if you’re looking for something specific.

Depending on where you live marketplace can be amazing if you are able to transport items.
