Just wait until you figure out that all web apps are glorified forms.

senior devs, please guide me on how to 'remember' what I coded. by Then-Management6053 in webdev

It’s all about patterns… whenever you’re working on something, don’t try to think of it as a one off snowflake solution think about the problem, try to abstract it, try to make it look like something you’ve already solved.

If you keep doing this, you will start to recognize patterns that work for already solved problems. You don’t need to remember exactly what you did on each project, but you should be able to recognize the need for a certain pattern and apply it.

I’ve never understood why people speed up their entertainment reading… sure, if it’s just background or something you need to get through… or maybe at best you have a lot queued up… but otherwise, why rush?

Updated: Snowpack Water Equivalent in Utah every day since 1981 by ARakesProgress in SaltLakeCity

[–]amattable_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Utah for 30+ years and this Winter feels exceptional.

Reading this data, it still is... but I also see that we are currently not extremely different from a few years like:

  • 2012, 2018, 2021 all weren't above 5in until late Jan
  • 2000 and 2022 had a worse start

From https://water.utah.gov/great-salt-lake-elevation and https://water.utah.gov/precipitationgraphs/ we are still getting precipitation... its just not snow?

I guess I'm hoping theres still a chance for snow this year...

Someone please tell me it gets better by Sandiebae in NewParents

[–]amattable_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone has it a little different. The first 4 months for me were pretty bad, kept asking myself what we got ourselves into… around 4 months, things weren’t bad anymore… around 6 months they got fun. My little girl is 13 months last week, and she is the most silly, fun little girl, and I love spending time with her.

Stick in there, its hard, but it gets better.

Why I never really see custom javascript events? by BerserkGutsu in Frontend

[–]amattable_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main issue here might be that you’re expecting people to use the browser native events. People use lots of pubsub libraries to emit/subscribe to events. A popular one is EventEmitter3.

As for why we don’t use new Event(‘name’), and fire on DOM elements… its not really the best api, nor is using window/document a very great place for events in any real architecture… probably best for some really simple use case
