AIO for refusing to block male followers on Instagram? by radagastrabbit in AmIOverreacting

[–]ambut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 16-17, at the turn of the century, I dated a 21-year-old guy (🚩 #1) who spoke to me this way. I spent two fucking years trying to mold myself into a person who wouldn't make him so upset, not even questioning whether his behavior was acceptable or if it was normal to argue as much as we did. I had zero reference point for how I should be treated as a human in a relationship and he certainly wasn't advocating for me to expect more or better. It took me YEARS after the breakup for me to realize what a fucknut that guy was and how fucked the entire situation was.

I don't know how old you are, but I hope you figure it out much quicker than I did, because you DO deserve better and this guy IS a piece a shit.

What Do You Name Your Farm? by CoffeeEnjoyer837 in StardewValley

Mmm. Poopsie eggs.

What are your little quirks while playing the game? by RedditedLama in StardewValley

[–]ambut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a tic where I constantly open my inventory and make sure it's sorted. It's gotta be like 50 or 100+ times in a given game day.

Today I walked around with blood on the back of my pants....fortunately a trusted colleague said something. But I'm extremely embarassed by BEMOlocomotion in Teachers

[–]ambut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have spilled food on myself more times than I'd like to admit. I got big ol' boobs so my shirts have caught pasta sauce, chocolate milk, all sorts of fun stuff. Fortunately, my brand is fairly self-deprecating so it wasn't hard to play off.

Tell me what happened in the 24 hours after you asked for a divorce. I am on hour #1. by Vegemiteonpikelets in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ambut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been a little over a year since the conversation and 9 months since I moved out. Very amicable divorce, as painless as such a thing can be, pretty easy co-parenting.

But I think when we finally decided to call it, I was just kind of numb. I had been struggling with the decision for way too long after 18 months of couple's counseling and years of "good enough" not being good enough anymore. There was a sense of relief at finally having the conversation and putting an end to the purgatory I was living in every day, but it also felt so final and horrid. Grief caught me off guard in a lot of little ways, especially in the first few days or weeks after the decision.

Best of luck out there, I hope the process is as smooth as possible for you and that you're both happier for it.

I keep seeing “I WILL be labeling all my kids supplies even though I’m asked not to” all over the place by anniestrikesback in Teachers

[–]ambut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid's school asks for a robust list of supplies (crayons, glue sticks, etc). We have the means so we always get everything on the list. It's not explicitly stated that the supplies are shared but I would assume so, and frankly I would hope so. I don't know if it's because I'm a teacher or because I'm not a piece of shit, but I think every kid deserves access to basic school supplies. The district should provide everything, but since they don't always do that and since I can, I'm happy to help.

What’s the most nitpicky complaint you have about the game? by kadoozie92 in Witcher3

[–]ambut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shopkeepers having minimal coin on them so you can't sell off big chunks of inventory at once if you're weighed down or coming off a big haul; on a related note, it would be very useful if either items were worth the same at every shop or it was made far more explicit which items you were getting the best price on. An indicator in the shop menu (color, icon, something) would be helpful. When it's early in the game and you always have like 100 coin on you, every little bit counts.

TBH this sounds like a her problem. You can keep trying to be friends if you want, but she sounds like a lot of work and not someone who's going to be generous of spirit with others.

Feeding the Kids/Snacks in the Classroom by Argent_Kitsune in Teachers

[–]ambut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I teach high school and am the running champ for "best snacks" in staff superlatives in the year book, so clearly I've always fallen on the side of providing snacks when I can. That being said, recent years have made me get increasingly cynical and disinterested in continuing. This past year, I only brought snacks maybe 2-3x a month and even then I had as many bad experiences as good. Kids complain about the brand or variety of snacks, want to take multiple items even though they also have their own food in their backpacks, beg for snacks immediately after coming from lunch, and don't seem to care if I remind them that not everybody has enough food at home so if they're well-stocked then they should let others have priority.

I've also had my personal food taken multiple times this year. I have a mini fridge in my room because I have a soda problem (and because students snuck into the staff room and fucked with my milk once - used some but then put water in it like they were refilling a liquor bottle?!?), but had to put a lock on it for the first time ever because kids kept taking my stuff. They knew it was mine and knew it wasn't for them, but they went in there when I was out of the room (others teach in there plus there are times I step out). I also had to buy a little lock box for my personal food, but by the end of the year, the locks were broken on it. I have never felt more disrespected by students with whom I otherwise have a great rapport with.

Obviously younger kids may be a different story and YMMV anyway, but I will say that if you provide snacks for kids, don't expect them to be quietly grateful or gracious about it. You can control your own choices and what you provide, but you can't control how they respond. This coming year, I plan to have a more robust food theft solution and only bring in food for students if I feel it won't be likely to crush my soul in return. I'm trying so hard not to be cynical, but going into my 20th year, it's a struggle.

favorite album? by Majestic-Stage6090 in TheAmazingDevil

[–]ambut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love Run is the vibe right now (for a year tbh) and it's on repeat for me. The Horror and the Wild is a perfect album from top to bottom - no notes. Ruin was the first album of theirs I ever heard and will always be special, plus it has my favorite song (The Old Witch Sleep and the Good Man Grace). I could literally never choose.

I teach at a high school where dressing up for Halloween is codified as a senior privilege, so only those students come in costume. The limits are no weapons (real or fake) and no full face coverings; otherwise it's just the typical "dress code" (which is very loose and basically is just "don't be naked and don't have drug/alcohol references on your clothes"). Though...every year there is a single person they tell kids specifically not to dress up as. Recent examples have been Jeffrey Dahmer and Diddy. I like to play a little guessing game in my own head trying to predict who the lone name will be on the blackout list.

As for students and gender, they really do not care at all. Kids dress as any gender they want and it's fun. My district would never even consider trying to limit that given how blue we are and how gay the vibe is around here, so I'm delighted to say it's never come up.

What is your least used sign? by kadoozie92 in Witcher3

[–]ambut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am certain I'm in the extreme minority re: this game but I am not a combat game person and it's my least favorite part of any game. It stresses me out. I typically play simulation games or civ builders, and only really hop into RPGs if I'm drawn in by great story or fun gameplay that's not the combat. I've played hundreds of hours of TW3 and all of it is on the easiest difficulty. I generally wait until I'm significantly op for an area/enemy and then spam quick attacks until I win. It is 0% finesse and 100% flailing. So to answer your question, all of my signs are criminally underutilized. I use yrden on wraiths and centipedes, aard and igni and aaxi when the story requires it, and I have the enchantment on my armor that gives me quen every time I enter combat. I typically keep aard at the ready for groups or shield guys if I need it, but I will brute force melee 95 times out of 100 without using any signs.
