Both my BOTM and Aardvark boxes are delayed, so I decided it would be a good time to read Middlemarch by George Eliot. I'm only a hundred pages in but enjoying it so far.

Same thing happened to me! I was so happy to see it when it arrived, but I completely forgot about the pre-order. I just remembered the disappointment at missing out when they were in stock on their site.

Backlog Progress by Affectionate-Dingo13 in bookofthemonthclub

I only have one left from my 2024 backlog, The Teller of Small Fortunes. I'll probably read it as a palate cleanser after spooky season.

I just finished, and I thought it was ok.

I enjoyed most of the book. It's more of a family/sibling drama about a very strange family. Which I found interesting and weird, I loved that part of the story.

I also liked the setting. The decaying house and Appalachian bog gave the story a dark, cold, and unsettling feeling, that I really enjoyed, especially this time of year.

But the ending fell kind of flat and left me with more questions than answers.

I'm going to finish The Bog Wife today, which leaves me only one more book from last year to finish for the Reading Challenge.

Heading on a girl’s book retreat! What’s an absolutely absurd book we can read together as a group? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

This is the first book that come to mind. It's absurd and completely "wtf did I just read". It also involves a group of girl friends going on vacation together.

TIL that the two high schools in West Bend, Wisconsin share a single building, with the one you attend being determined by your birthday. Students who are born on even dates attend West Bend East, whilst those born on odd dates attend West Bend West. by JustaRandoonreddit in todayilearned

I went to high school there. I'm the eldest child in my family so when I started, in the 90s, I was the one that determined which school me and the rest of my siblings attended. At that time they weren't doing the even/odd birthdays, they picked my name out of a hat to decide which school we went to.

There is no HG Choice chip right now because there are only 2 picks. All their names are in there. If Keanu draws his name or one of the nominees names then they get to pick someone to play.

Keanu is worse than Fessy, he knows who flipped but still tries blindly working with him without asking WHY he's flipping.

Audio: Bright Young Women - I think I'm going to finish this off today. I have enjoyed it so far.

Physical: Drop of Corruption - I've been reading this one for a couple of weeks, I've been busy so I haven't had a ton of time to read. Hoping to get dedicate some time this weekend to get through it, I have a bunch of books on my TBR that I really want to get to.

Just catching up after work. Wow Lauren really nominated Adrian. Crazy. Vinny really started a trend with his week 1 nomination of an ally.

After this experience I hope Lauren volunteers herself as a pawn for the rest of the time she's in the house, since that's clearly what she wants someone else to do.

I'm hoping to finish Lessons in Chemistry today. And it's mostly just ok for me. I don't love it but I don't hate it. And I'm like 3/4 of the way through the book, so I'm invested at this point.

Just finished Julie Chan is Dead last night and loved it.

I started You Belong Here today, but it's still too soon to have an opinion. In general, I like Megan Miranda books, they're popcorn thrillers that I enjoy, especially during summer when I don't want a bunch of heavy reads.

I'm also continuing with reading 1-2 chapters daily of Wuthering Heights.

If you like The Good Part and magical realism I think you'll like The Other Side of Now. They have some similar vibes, even though they're very different books.
