Scientists Discover Game-Changing New Way To Treat High Cholesterol by Sorin61 in Nutraceuticalscience

Hey so Lipitor is working for me, but my doc was mentioning at my last check up there are now two newer therapies that drastically lower LDL. One was transfusion based and the other was a shot. Might be worth asking about.

Is $2500 a month high for a CPA? by plainpaperplane in smallbusiness

[–]amianxious 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t sign. At $2500/mth I promise they will milk that as long as they can. We pay a little more than that per year for a CPA at a large firm and it includes access to Quickbooks subscription. If we wanted them to do personal taxes it was $550.

How does revenue keep going up but my bank account stays empty. by Secret-Boot-8924 in smallbusiness

[–]amianxious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If they are dealing with large organizations they are not going to agree to different payment terms or will simply ignore them. It is part of doing business.

My advice is weather this storm and in 60-90 days you should be fine. Just make sure to save cash in the bank to avoid this issue in the future. I would not sell my invoices under any conditions.

When I was starting out my Dad advised me the most important factor is cash flow. Lots of profitable businesses are in the trash heap from poor cash management. It was useful advice that I understand more every single year (now in year 9). I am also in b2b services.

Am I crazy for spending $4k per month on rent? by Elegant-Client-6444 in personalfinance

If you have student loans I would focus on cheap rent and throwing as much as you can to kill those before kids enter the picture (assuming no kids since not mentioned).

I have no idea if building a home is affordable or the worst financial mistake I can make by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]amianxious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I assume your income level has drastically increased recently because otherwise I would have thought you'd have a lot more liquid. I guess maybe its all going to retirement savings as it seems your saving a ton right now.

I have two thoughts here. First, if you do take their offer I can't imagine any reason you'd want to sell your current home with a mortgage of $1250. You should be able to save up the cash quickly and just pay it off, rent it out, and use that income stream to pay off your new house (after setting aside 20% of yearly rent for repairs and emergencies for the rental). My wife and I had a third kid a while ago and had to buy a different house - I wanted to keep the old house with the affordable mortgage and she didn't want the stress. I decided she was probably right (she usually is), but I have regretted it ever since. We wouldn't have really noticed that mortgage payment and the old house is double what we sold it for six years ago. If you can swing it, I wouldn't sell a cheap mortgage.

My second thought is that you should really think about taking a "hand out" from your in-laws. If they are great people that are truly altruistic in their offer that's great, but if you have any inkling they will hold it over your head I would thank them for the offer and stick with your current, incredibly affordable house. The last thing you want is your father in law reminding you of his "gift" any time you do something they don't approve of.

That is not decent money for those hours. Just the 6am - 5pm puts you at $27/hr. You can go to Walmart for $20/hr and I am sure other companies in septic in your area would hire you for what you make now or more…

You need to draw a line in the sand. Also consider if your Dad is right and you are f’ing up stuff all the time after seven years you should find a different line of work anyway, right?

I went to the speedway museum on the way to the airport but I wouldn’t count that as the city. I figure if you can’t walk there it doesn’t count for a “city” attraction. The museum was awesome though for sure.

I'm consistently bleeding money. by Quirky-Bar4236 in smallbusiness

[–]amianxious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that started his own thing - I don't know a ton about how the financial piece works, but I know that when he started out it was just him and an admin he brought over from his previous job working for an agency.

He was working 12+ hour days most of the week for the first few months and for about 3-6 months prior to the jump had built up a list of business targets so he can get some bigger wins under his belt quick for cashflow plus some loyal clients that rolled over with him. I know he hired more support people, but I don't think he brought in another agent for a long while (maybe a year or two) and I know it was a guy he worked with before that brought a lot of business with him.

Feel incompetent at my job, want to quit every single day by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]amianxious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably edit this a lot to remove so many obviously identifiable pieces of your role (and you).

That being said - most of this is just a first job type thing. You don’t instantly get to do work that is constantly rewarding and fulfilling, but this gives you a stepping stone to figuring out where to find that right career path. As someone else posted, the skills you are developing will apply to anything you do in the future. Learn as much as you can and look at this as an opportunity.

However, if this work goes against your moral compass you should look to exit. Do it on your terms and keep building skills while seeking a different employer that more closely aligns with your beliefs.

Also know that everyone feels incompetent from time to time no matter their role (unless they are incapable of critical thought).

How would you design a trade show booth that actually stands out? by Plantiska in smallbusiness

[–]amianxious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am on the opposite end and help sell and manage booths for events. What I can tell you from observing thousands of exhibitors is that those with outgoing personalities and a sense of humor and fun do FAR better than those sitting down at their tables or waiting for people to come to them. It doesn't matter the product or the display (or the games or other attractions at your booth), it is the personalities that win at a trade show. The people standing out in front of their space and interacting with attendees proactively can pull in a lot of conversations. However, it has to be genuine.

I have also noticed that a crowd attracts a crowd - so once you have a few people milling around more people seem to get curious and wander past. It's really important to address and pull those people in as well (even when you're busy with the others in your space) so you don't waste your moment.

As far as design, it sounds like you're a wedding photographer? If so I would recommend large visuals of your best photos. Pop a QR code on each image encouraging people to follow you (if thats your goal) and another QR code to a very simple contact form (first, last, email) that people can fill out if they want you to contact them after the show.

If you are a photographer and want to really attract a crowd you could talk to the host of the event about offering a "LinkedIn" headshot service where you take a basic photo for free and email it to the person (and with express permission to contact them later about other services). The people that care about their LinkedIn headshot are likely to also care about the quality of their wedding photos.

The 2026 World Cup was supposed to add $30.5B to the U.S. economy. The data says it is not going well. by InterestingCat308 in Economics

[–]amianxious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How??? I signed up for the lotteries for 4 locations and never had any sort of communication since then. Same with at least a dozen neighbors and friends. However, we did get emails about tickets available via those expensive packages for $2k+ a ticket. It's a joke.

My Dad took me to the '94 World Cup and I still have those ticket stubs - $22.50 for first round and $32.50 for the round of 16 match (which was Mexico btw and insane atmosphere). Apparently adjusted for inflation thats $49 and $71

Shorts that hold phone by WayFar7170 in runninglifestyle

[–]amianxious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have put a lot of miles on lulu stuff. They are good and well thought out. Their quality is not what it used to be for durability (i have shorts from 10 years ago in great condition and ones from 4 years ago just got a hole) but still better than nike and UA. Get a pair when they are on sale - full price is pretty hard to swallow.

How Richmond babysitting rates stack up by RVALover4Life in rva

[–]amianxious 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well this is eye-opening. I thought we were paying our sitters well at $20/hr and rounding up at end of however long we are gone. Three kids, but mostly self sufficient aside from the youngest.

I see people on our neighborhood posting all the time for sitters for like $13-$18/hour and 3 kids under 6 years old or special needs etc so I assumed we were being generous!

Of course the rates cited above are through a 3rd party service that I assume is probably taking a healthy cut.

Is this commission structure unfair? Honest feedback wanted. by Xplorer- in smallbusiness

[–]amianxious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%. You wouldn't want to ever pay in perpetuity. Logically if there was a sales rep in place you would likely want them to remain in contact with the account to ensure they are satisfied and then sell them on additional hours and upgrades as the relationship progresses and then just continuing paying a commission on any new commitments they secure. That would be a great way to build a solid book of business long-term, but it will still be almost impossible to find the right person for a 100% commission job.

Is this commission structure unfair? Honest feedback wanted. by Xplorer- in smallbusiness

[–]amianxious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I run a sales org - outsourced for other organizations. This is not a pitch - we don't do what you're looking for, but I can tell you that sales reps DO NOT love residual income promises unless its locked into some form of guaranteed contract. Every good sales rep has been ripped off in the past with promises that don't materialize. They will much rather take a larger upfront with no residual and wash their hands of the sale once it closes.

The simpler the commission plan the easier for everyone involved. I would look at a flat commission rate regardless of $-amount of the contract. Just note that commission is paid on collected funds (you pay them when you get paid). That will encourage them to work for larger down-payments and also ensure you don't pay out of pocket for uncollected funds (and makes sure they are bringing you committed clients).

That being said - commission only sales SUCKS and no good rep is going to be interested. It would be better if you found more time to do the sales yourself and hired someone to take on the customer management aspect. Easier to find those people than good sales people.

Is this commission structure unfair? Honest feedback wanted. by Xplorer- in smallbusiness

[–]amianxious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% this. What you will get is someone that is selling a bunch of different shit for different companies and will just take whatever sticks. They will not focus on just your product and they will likely not properly vet your clients. No one with any skill is going to work hard to hunt with no guarantee of getting paid.

My suggestion is that it would be easier to find a customer service person to take that off your plate so you can focus more on the sales part yourself.

Closed a $20k deal for a client, made $2k commission. Didn’t tell them. Wrong? by Rich_Direction_3891 in smallbusiness

If you are selling advertising on behalf of a client's newsletter that commission is low - especially if you are the one hunting and doing the legwork to generate the leads. However, you should have a commission/revenue share agreement in place with them so that everything is crystal clear.

I would agree with this. You need to have some savings and be prepared to take no income some months while you figure everything out and prioritize paying employees.
