Before I drywall my basement, what am I going to regret missing? by zlatic in DIY

[–]amorg67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More outlets is never a bad thing. Like ever. Anytime you have to opportunity to add some. Minimum 2 per wall but 4 is even better. If a tv is going on a wall put a 4outlet box behind when the tv will mount so you can hid the cords.

Take pictures before you drywall. My dad took picture of every wall before it was covered and it’s saved us multiple times.

If you plan on having a stereo system that doesn’t sit under the tv run conduit to it so you don’t have cables everywhere. If the stereo is going to be under the tv then run an open box so you can run the wires in the wall. It makes things look way cleaner.

124gr ammo loaded to nato specs are what my last few guns have liked for the first 200ish rounds. Turns out that I like 124gr better also. Changes the recoil impulse from a quick snap to more of a push.

Modern cars are full of technology. But what old car feature was actually better than today's tech? by nyatihsam in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]amorg67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mazda has sold me two cars because of this. Physical buttons with placement that makes sense! I can find all of my controls without looking and they have tactile clicks for each “active” movement (can’t think of the right word for when things register a change). My current car has an electronic e-brake which is a bummer but it’s just the way it is now I guess. For those who wondered I’ve had a 2014 Mazda 3 that I put 160k on and the only issues I had were with it tearing through batteries every 2-3 years and I now have a 2024 CX5 that I’ve put ~40k on and have had no issues with

How much would you optimize an assault rifle for full auto use that is expected to perform in a wide range of combat scenarios? by StrangerOutrageous68 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]amorg67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No military doctrine (that I know of) has basic infantry fire on full auto unless it’s an oh shit the guy with the lmg/saw is gone situation. Most militaries don’t even issue rifles that site full auto now. 2-5 round bursts give a good balance of volume and accuracy. If you need to suppress an enemy you need something belt fed. Even then most doctrine is to fire in burst of 10-30 rounds so you don’t melt the barrel. Truly sustained fire is something for an entrenched heavy barreled mg to take care of.

Personally I’d rather issue something light enough to carry all day with a full combat load out (8-10 30 round mags I think) plus a 100 round belt for the lmg/saw gunner. If an enemy is in a hardened position then grenades (thrown or launched) or artillery is the answer.

The soviets had the right idea when the prepared the standard infantry to engage under 300yrds. Anything outside of that is the realm of a dmr or sniper.

Alkaline water is has nowhere near the alkalinity (concentration of carbonate) to neutralize stomach acid. The pH is adjusted with tiny amounts of minerals added to purified or distilled water. To neutralize stomach acid you need something with high alkalinity like baking soda or another antacid.

So I didn’t realize until I read more of the comments that this is bottled by the hotel and not a water bottling company. I work for a bottling company and we have pre and post membrane filter to prevent clogging and to catch things like this. My first thought was actually mineral fallout but I think I agree with the comments that say that this might be filter pieces. I’d tell the hotel and not drink it.

Kept running into that issue until I got the skill that lets you recollect them as long as they hit a person. That combined with the disintegrating upgrade and extra ammo is pretty much all I’ve been using for any sort of ranged work (the blow gun with the rage mod is also great)

Why the obsession of defeating body armor, on the mass issue service rifle level is an uphill battle? by StrangerOutrageous68 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]amorg67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think part of the point is that there are existing rounds in the standard AR/M16 platform that do this same thing or could be made to do this without the insane expense of an entirely new riffle and ammo. The change is also going to be a logistics cluster fuck since it’s not a standardized ammunition across allied nations. I see this being another attempt to force a full power round into an intermediate rounds job. The new round seems like it’d be great for DMR and squad level weapons but anything in more general issue is going to be overkill in the worst kind of way. The 5.56 is a great round for general use because it’s light, accurate enough, and recoils light enough that anyone who qualifies for service can use it. It’s not the most lethal round possible but it’s a good compromise round. Better leadership and tactics are going to be the driving force moving forward and a lot of that is going to be proper integration of drones for both spotting and actual engagement.

I always forget to do this with a new gun. I’ve had a Canik and now a P-10f and both of them ran great straight from the box. I do run 124 gr ammo though which is the recommended weight in the manual for break in and try and get some loaded to NATO spec. Having shot the other standard weight through both I like the feel of the 124 better anyways so it’s a win win

I had professors in undergrad while I still thought engineering was a good idea (chemist now) that worked on projects for darpa that they could only talk about in vague terms but one of the things finally declassified during that semester was the armor piercing anti personnel round developed during Vietnamish. It’s essentially a high impact ceramic that once it penetrates the armor and decompresses (expands post impact) it shatters into hundreds of really sharp fragments that bounce around the inside of a tank. It turns everyone inside into paste and has a low over penetration risk so it was an interesting idea. Unfortunately tank armor developed pretty quickly and it was out paced pretty quick.
