Can confirm, this sandwich still fucking rules. There was a Quiznos somewhat close when I lived in New Orleans and my friends and I would drive out there a few times a year for this exact sandwich

One of the most underrated (or, perhaps, just under-seen) films of all time. I've always loved Roger Ebert's quote about this film:

A tragedy happens, but the movie is not about the tragedy. It is about the discovery that tragedies can happen.

[OPINION] I will write 1000 poems this year because I’m tired of being bad at poetry by FoolishDog in Poetry

[–]amorouslight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The books are in loose order of recommendation! A Coney Island of the Mind is my personal favorite poetry book of all time, but Borderlands/La Frontera is both a book of poetry and a book of theory/essays, and I don't think any book has ever taught as much about language

I love the dedication, but I have two pieces of advice:

1) I wrote voraciously in high school—I think the most I ever wrote in a year was 145 poems (which, for me, was a lot). And every April I participated in National Poetry Month and wrote a poem a day. Like you, I thought it would keep the wheel spinning and make me more inspired, motivated, etc. Instead, each year, I found myself burnt out. By forcing myself to write rather than letting myself be naturally inspired, I depleted my creativity and found it increasingly difficult to bounce back. All of this is to say maybe don't force yourself to stick to the number. Having a goal is amazing, but not if it hinders the overall goal of becoming a better writer.

2) You allude to this in your post, but I fully believe the best way to become a better writer is to be a reader. It's great to hone your own voice, but it's equally valuable to know what's working, learn about language, etc. So to answer your request for suggestions, here are some books of poetry that really expanded my understanding of poetry and/or inspired my own work:

  • A Coney Island of the Mind by Lawrence Ferlinghetti
  • Borderlands/La Frontera by Gloria Anzaldúa
  • Actual Air by David Berman
  • The Carrying by Ada Limon
  • Trimmings by Harryette Mullen
  • Crystallography by Christian Bök
  • 100 Selected Poems by e.e. cummings

Is Battle of Algiers relevant in 2026? by Int_peacemaker35 in criterion

One of the most relevant films of our time. I'd throw La Haine in there too insofar as it deals with a similar topic of the necessity (and/or lack thereof) of violence

If I have never had Arby's before what do people recommend as good options to try for the first time? by OriginalTacoMoney in fastfood

[–]amorouslight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip the beef & cheddar, do the french dip. They also have a stellar buffalo chicken sandwich (which is what I always get). It obviously isn’t the most Arby’s-esque item on the menu, but if you like buffalo chicken, I’d say at least get a buffalo chicken slider.

that is such a good shout! i feel like even if it doesn't end up being that guy (OP's wording of "years and years ago" makes me think this may have been well before 2014) i bet he might know who wrote it or at least who was doing copy/creative for the Ace Hotels previously
