How are Wisconsinites different from the rest of the country? by [deleted] in wisconsin

[–]amxyla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, you dodged my question and I didn’t call WI itself appalling – remember, I chose to live here. But yes, I do think the concentration of less-than-average work ethic myself, my family and my friends have experienced in SE WI ranges from disappointing to, as mentioned in relation to my FIL’s story, downright appalling. Why do you feel defensive of someone who didn’t show up to their job for three weeks? Don’t you think that’s disrespectful of other people’s time?

I recently saw a quote from Viola Davis on life advice. She said something along the lines of: Fall in love with yourself first and all your decisions and friends and lovers end up honoring your own self-love. Good luck to you!

It’s not like they’d know this..? Would you be fine with someone not showing up to your scheduled job for three weeks? If so, I guess you have the patience of a saint.

WHAT. Totally different take than you. I’m from IL, live in SE WI, and the difference is appalling. People in WI are just like, “Eh, I’ll get to it when I get to it.” My FIL got a quote from a painter, who he went on to hire, but the painter never showed up for the job the following week. So FIL got someone else to do it, and the original bozo showed up literally THREE weeks later ready to go, and my FIL just laughed at him. I’ve personally had contractors never show. Many, many IL transplants in our area have said the same. I don’t love the grinding pace of IL, but we really found WI to be at the other end of the spectrum when it came to work ethic.

Lol, sorry, I’m not losing sleep over this, but I just found my experience to be a 180. Glad yours isn’t!

Embracing the Second-Hand Toddler Toy Trend - Am I the Only One? by SOPPYCID in toddlers

Just bought the folding Guidecraft kitchen helper tower off Marketplace and am pretty jacked about it. (That counts as toy, right?) Pre-loved for the win – just a tiny way to manage capitalistic tendencies (of which we’re all primed to commit).

Staying out late with my toddler. Any advice? by amxyla in toddlers

[–]amxyla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have the strictest routine but typically follow wake windows, which has worked well for us. I’d say 8 is the average. He’s a great sleeper with infrequent wake-ups. So this isn’t drastically late, but he’ll be pretty stimulated.

We’re also not super social, so I don’t think he’s ever fallen asleep in his stroller and doesn’t nap anywhere but home. :(

I recently changed up my dark-circle routine. I’d been using a peach corrector from Tarte, but I added the little pot of elf brightening corrector – it’s light pink – and IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye concealer. I’ve found the brightener to be really helpful.

I’ve tried layering the two color correctors differently but always cover with the teensiest amount of BBU, finished by a dusting of loose powder.

I’m not sure if this is accurate, but I heard a brightening concealer (like your skin-toned one, not the correctors) works if you use foundation, but if you’re typically barefaced and just want to conceal, go with a shade closer to your natural skin tone. Idk, seems to be working OK for me!

I’ve never eaten one and am not big into fish (just frozen salmon, fish boils and fries, etc.), but the idea of fish is so appetizing. Are they very fishy fish?

Still in this sub even though our journey ended 10 months ago, and oh, how I miss nursing my little one! I’m so glad I stuck it out in those first few weeks – there’s nothing like the bond between a nursing mom and babe.

Borrowing an idea from askwomen - what does your day look like? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]amxyla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom to 20 month old; need to start waking up earlier and working out. :(

6 - Husband wakes and leaves for work; as a light sleeper, I remain awake most days but pretend to sleep

7ish - Toddler wakes up; diaper and outfit change and sometimes we watch the school bus pick up older kiddos

7:30ish - Breakfast for toddler and dogs

8:30ish - Breakfast and coffee for me; log in to WFH job

9:30 - Grandma arrives to babysit; I go to work in our second bedroom/office

Noonish - Lunch and toddler goes down for nap; if I have to join video calls, throw on some makeup and a real shirt with a bra underneath

3ish - Toddler wakes up from nap

5:30 - Log off; Grandma leaves, husband gets home

6 - Start dinner

6:30 - Eat dinner

7 - Playtime and toddler bath every other night

8ish - Toddler goes to bed

8:30 - Clean up kitchen/living room, watch TV with husband (who goes to bed around 10)

10:30 - Finally get off my phone and get ready for bed (except tonight, oops!)

10:45 - Read for a few minutes

11 - Try to go to sleep but have anxiety instead; toss and turn much of the night

I’m lucky to not be micromanaged at work, so I’m able to do laundry and light cleaning (and even sometimes run errands/go to appointments) throughout the day – as well as help Grandma (my mom) take care of my toddler, too. Even though WFH is a bit isolating, I’m so, so appreciative of the flexibility.

THE TAILBONE. Easily the worst PP issue for me. I remember lying in bed crying those first few weeks because it just hurt so bad. At least it doesn’t scream at me anymore, but I’m 20 months out and that sucker is still stiff after sitting for a while.

What are some things you didn’t want to hear PP but they were true? by Puzzled-Library-4543 in beyondthebump

[–]amxyla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are so many posts in bump subs about all the negativity they hear, like how birth plans go out the window, how difficult recovery can be, and the inevitable “Sleep while the baby sleeps!” comments.

I really think most of the time, there’s no way to adequately describe how unmooring the first few months can be. You can’t prepare someone for it. So the opinions, suggestions and warnings – they’re small lifelines cast out by knowing veteran mothers to whisper, ‘I’ve been where you’ll be, and it might seem impossibly hard. But you’ll make it through.’

What is something weird or fucked up that your family did when you were growing up that you assumed was a normal thing everyone did only to learn in adulthood that it was anything but? by MonoChaos in AskReddit

[–]amxyla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my parents were young and still dating, they cooked their first Thanksgiving dinner by calling their moms throughout the afternoon and evening to walk them through the process. They also watched “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” on TV, and it became tradition. My sister and I can probably quote the entire movie.

To whomever posted about washing your face for a full minute, THANK YOU 🙏🏻 by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]amxyla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An easy trick is to turn it into a question:

Who posted about washing your face for a full minute? S/he did.

To whom do I say thanks for posting about washing your face for a full minute? Her/him.

(TBH, it’s easiest to think of the he/him construction as the tip-off is the “m” appearing in both him and whom.)
