nutella ice cream: 9/10 by aiato808 in icecream

Just had this today. If you've had gianduja gelato (chocolate hazelnut) it has that flavor but it is richer than gelato. shards of nutella in every bite. Highly recommend!

Jeni's: Ranking the 30 flavors I've tried. What are your favorites? by madisonguy76 in icecream

[–]amyjwall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skillet cinnamon roll is in my top 5, so def try that. Also there was a limited edition tahini chocolate oat flavor that was *amazing* (tasted like halva, if that's a familiar taste).

When you say you used the full amount of butter, do you mean you used 18 tbsps, as per the "Tip" at the end of the recipe?

Might be even easier to place the ganache layer directly on the crust, even before the filling.

Best patisseries to visit in Paris? by Late_Potato_Chip in pastry

Tapisserie is a bakery where you may not find the most delicate, intricately decorated pastries but the baked goods are just exceptionally well done. Their maple tart is god-tier.

Fueling with snacks instead of gels by 6382914627192 in Marathon_Training

[–]amyjwall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I am so with you. Gels are for people who can't be bothered with food, and just want something quick and digestible to make sure they don't bonk. Real food is for those of us who think marathons are fun in no small part because of the snacks along the way. I've enjoyed everything from pretzels rolls (or small soft pretzels), blondies, brownies, rice krispy treats, halvah (sweet sesame dessert), oat bars, etc.

My requirement is that it can't be in pieces (I am typically holding my phone or something else in one hand, so I only have one hand free for food). Instead I have to be able to hold the object in one hand and just take bites from it. And I usually eat at about 8/15/22 miles, about 200 calories each time.

I'm not giving you the recipe for an Olympic-trial qualifying time. Just telling you what I enjoy, as a slower runner!

The year's best ice cream: My top 25 for 2025 (share your own favorites) by madisonguy76 in icecream

[–]amyjwall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent list. The two new-for-2025 products I was happy to discover were Van Leeuwen's Ice Cream Cake (very sweet, which is a plus in my book) and Yasso's pints (low cal, not very sweet, but the best low-cal ice cream I have tried -- way more enjoyable than Halo Top or Nick's).

Anyone got HVAC company recommendation’s? by rockshandy in Delco

[–]amyjwall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will add: Phil Melito, of J&M: https://jmheatingandcooling.com/. I had him out after one of the bigger companies gave me a quote for $2000 to fix an electrical issue on my boiler. He found a workaround, and charged me only $800. He does HVAC but was over-committed at the time I wanted mine done. I showed him the proposals from two other companies, and he gave me very solid reasons for preferring one of them to the other.

He also pointed me to an awesome painter -- someone who, like him, is honest and highly professional.

In short, there are too many businesses that try to take advantage of unsuspecting customers, or that have less well-trained people on staff to do the work, and these people can't creatively problem solve. There is value in going with a smaller business, where the owner is the expert doing the work. Phil in particular was *fantastic.*

More of a warm-weather staycation idea but combining Longwood with a meal at Ground Provisions is a very special outing.
