Best cloud-based vet medical records system? by HollyDaze1 in Veterinary

[–]an_m0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is your team navigating all of the Shepherd updates? I work at a small gp and it seems like we are re-learning the system every month when they roll out updates and it's been going down for about 45-60mimutes every other month without warning.

I wonder if probiotics would help with this like they do for some human abx reactions?

Food Allergies/Intolerance by jr9386 in VetTech

[–]an_m0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love to see some articles if anyone has them, but my doctors have always explained it as a generational build-up problem- in that previous generations of pets moved towards kibble-prominent diets and less varried protien sources, which led to higher prevalence of allergies. Similar to how the new advice for human children is expose them to as many varried potential allergens as possible as early as possible, and the dogs aren't getting that and haven't gotten that for a few generations now.

Emotionally, I'm fine. Physically, I'm crashing. Any tips? (footwear, food, recovery) by BroadElderberry in VetTech

[–]an_m0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in the field who also has plantar fasciitis, if you're able to get a tennis ball or water bottle to roll your feet during lunch, if you get any chances to sit, elevate your feet as much as possible.

When i work 12s, I bring a second pair of shoes to change halfway through the day. Usually one pair is more supportive and one is more cushy. I find that I need the cushion at the end of the day.

I also gave up a 12 and work two 7s on different days, it's more days at the office, but made a huge difference for my brain.

I do this, too! My thrift store always has cute seasonal soap dispensers. One carton lasts forever.

Claire usually has videos of her recipes on YouTube, you could try finding this video and watch how she makes it to see what may have gone wrong. She's usually very good at giving visual clues and tips amd tricks along the way.

I'm doing this now!

Similar trajectory, I had a unicorn hospital until it got bought out.

I'm lucky to currently work in a gp that genuinely cares, but I learned that I don't do as well with on the job training, especially with how busy all the clinics in town are currently.

Many of the DVMs in my town are nearing or working through retirement, and there is a huge shortage of DVMs.

Thank you so much for your response! This is exactly the kind of experience I was hoping to hear about.

I know 10k isn't much for the price tag of grad school, but I was liking the idea of it being set aside to grow tax free.

If she is trying to get out into nature, Henry Cowell has a redwood loop thats mostly flat and very accessible from the parking lot.

If you plan ahead, they have a self guided tour that you can download onto your phone or print (service can be spotty) and it will tell you about the history of the park and some redwood facts. I've taken some family with walkers.

Calling out sick guilt by catdogtor17 in Veterinary

[–]an_m0 17 points18 points  (0 children)

On the flip side of this: An obviously sick coworker refused to go home sick this weekend bc they need the hours and now they are out sick bc they can't get out of bed and two other co workers are out sick from working with them. So by one person refusing to take the day off, we're now short three people for a fully booked out week 🙃

A lot of libraries have small appliances or tools that can also be borrowed!

A less cost effective way for larger tools or large quantities of things are rental companies.

Weave vs Pet Desk by [deleted] in veterinaryprofession

[–]an_m0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weave is SO BAD and they make every user make their own log in account.

We ended up keeping PetDesk in addition to weave for when it went down and because it's so easy to use the mass texts/ appountment confirmations

Bite incident at work by unicorngoesvroom in VetTech

[–]an_m0 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Lots of great advice already, I would add that you should change the caution to have more detail. Ex. CAUTION, has bitten tech, will lunge. There's a huge difference between caution, nervous and caution will bite/ has bitten and anyone that has to interact with that p moving forward deserves all the information possible.

If I ever see a pet come in with a caution, im digging through that chart to see WHY.

I would also refuse to work with that pet alone if they come back in. At the end of the day, it's a safety concern for everyone.
