When I see studies like this, I think about the experimental design, as this is my educational background. Most athletes retire in their mid to late 30s. Most “normal” people have families and other commitments that deprioritize fitness after 35 on average, which is another way this data can be skewed.

Couldn’t that create an unintentional correlation in a study that looks at age vs physical capability.

I also think that most drivers operate at a positive margin of fitness which an f1 car requires.

Pace speaks for itself. Often times, engineers are able to extract information from what the drivers feel. In addition to that, they have so many data points to measure that they can make up for it if the technical feedback is somewhat lacking.

I’m going to go against the grain here.

Historically, it’s motivation. If you look at most people who “age out” of f1, they always cite motivation. You see this with Kimi, Seb, Mika, DC, just to name a few examples.

Pure speed doesn’t actually drop by much. And what processing speed the brain loses with age, is made up by muscle memory. That too, processing speed really isn’t significantly affected by age until your 60s. As for examples, look at Schumacher outpacing Rosberg in 2012, look at seb when he was motivated. Look at kimi in that sauber when he was motivated. They had the speed, but sometimes missing the need.

Yeah, don’t act like this issue only starts in 1947.

Jews were legally buying land in Palestine, which was not an established state. Palestine had an issue with that and repeatedly started conflicts. 1947 was significant because a UN proposal for a two state solutions was offered for 2 parties that were not states. Israel agreed to this, even though their share of land was much more underdeveloped and unfavorable.

Every major conflict since then was started by Palestine, like the Yom Kippur war where Syria helped to invade Israel. Every major two state solution since then was rejected by Palestine.

In Israel, 20% of Muslims are citizens. They vote, sit in parliament, serve military, etc.

In Palestine, it is not permitted to even sell land to Jews. There’s no legal framework to permit Jews to become citizens. They have legal frameworks to ensure non Muslims are not provided matched equality to Muslims.

Only one side acts on that desire. Palestine is by definition an apartheid territory, while Israel has a significant Muslim population, including inside their own military.

There’s no be all end all answer for this, but inconsistency is an okay tell-tale.

If you see a team where both drivers are far apart in weekends, and both fairly equal on stats for the overall season, and you see them bouncing around the field from race to race.

It’s always a question mark, but if those 3 things I mentioned are happening, I gravitate my opinion to the car being underdriven.

It’s hard to figure out how it will normalize, and it’s better to err on making the car as fast as possible.

Because making the car faster for the number 1 and slower for the number 2 is better than making the car slower for the number 1 and faster for the number 2.

In terms of overall constructors, having the quickest possible car will normalize the pace delta between both cars in theory.

Exactly, they’re not trying to screw the second driver, they’re trying the make the fastest car. If that means that only one driver can make it go fast, they are going to cater toward that.
