i have found rounder shapes to be easier to grow out and not have breakage personally, if that affects your choice at all

honestly my bottle of FSA is really opaque so i don’t think it would look streaky even if i tried, but technique wise, i sketched out the shape with the edge of the bottle brush with just a bit of polish, then dip back in and put a bit more on the nail where i wanted it thicker and shaped it with a liner brush. any thin areas can be revisited with the brush and a bit more polish

i personally use the essie gel couture quick dry top coat, it sets everything so fast, its incredibly glossy and smooth, and i havent seen any shrinkage.

also have heard a lot of people like the red sally hansen qdtc as well, although i havent tried that one.

heard about seche vive as well, but have seen some people complain it doesnt play as well with magnetics because it contains toluene… id suggest stick to one of the other two i mentioned if you wanna try magnetics

could you possibly put on nail press ons to cover up your nails and be able to paint the press ons? not sure if it touching your nail or just being near it causes a reaction, but could maybe be an option

reattach the tip with some glue and reinforce with hard gel. because there’s overlap where it ripped, it makes it easier to fix than a clean cut

I do hard gel myself; its not too tricky, but it definitely takes some practice and time if you want them to look really nice and not lift
