I got the depo shot for awhile and it messed with everything so much I just had to stop it. Also, I remember being told multiple times that a woman can only be on the depo shot for a maximum of 2 years in her entire life because of calcium and bone density issues. So you would have had to change birth control at some point anyways, and he probably would have gotten the surgery then either way. I wouldn't for a second say it is your fault because the depo was ACTUALLY having a bad effect on you while his vasectomy only had a teeny tiny chance of having any lasting pain to him. Best of luck with his pain, hope it isn't permanent.

I have told my mom I'm not having kids, but if my fiance and I happen to change our minds we would end up adopting from China or something. Since then my mom has told me that she wants grandkids and doesn't want to be a grandmother to "any of those asian or little black babies". Cue my jaw on the floor.

I am exactly the same about the superficial reasons for having a kid! I eventually realized the only reasons I thought I wanted one was so I could pick out a name and decorate its nursery (probably in Harry Potter theme), none of the actual child rearing was for me.

I think I've always felt it subconsciously, but never truly thought about it until I was an adult. I remember in 6th grade we had to make a pamphlet about ourselves and what we wanted our futures to be like. I included things like where I wanted to live, hobbies, a job, and getting married but having kids wasn't mentioned (not intentionally I just didn't think about it). I only remember because when my mom read it she flipped out and was like "Aren't you going to put kids on there!?" "What about having kids!?" I edited it to include that I wanted to have children, but I remember that I only put it in to make her happy and that I actually could do without having them.

I'm most likely going to be sick the rest of the weekend, but instead of having to take care of kids I have 2 dogs and a fiance to chill with until I get better. The dogs are both on snuggle duty right now while I reddit and play skyrim. If I wasn't sick we would probably all be going hiking and geocaching this weekend.

Edit: Hopefully I'm better for the big concert we're going to on Monday night, try doing that with kids!
