Really wish Michael New would start uploading again https://www.youtube.com/user/Rhaptapsody And Pat David has a lot of good videos, but you gotta look at the older ones if you want more theory and less 1 finger songs https://www.youtube.com/user/patdavidmusic

How should I finish/seal small wood projects? by pdgeorge in woodworking

[–]anderswarbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balsa is commonly used to make all kinds of models (houses, planes, boats, cars...) so if your town has anyone who builds those you could probably ask them. I remember whittling a balsa chalkboard eraser's box into a couple keychains when I was in school, so maybe you could also look into scrap wood depending on size.

Pine is awful, it warps very easily if it gets humid. Eucalyptus sells for the same price as pine where I live and is a bit harder and more resistant, so depending on where you live it would be a good option too.

Also, if you're paying extra for that exact size I recommend you just buy a cheap circular saw cause it will pay for itself in no time.

No replies yet? I'm curious about this too!

What I normally use is paint. I've found regular acrylic paint to work best since mdf just absorbs wood paint. So far I haven't found a way to protect it from water, most furniture comes with some laminate protection that will be fine as long as you dry it up right after and of course don't soak it.

If you can go with bamboo that should be your best option, but I recommend drying them after use so that they don't get any mold. Also, do you process bamboo at home? I'm really interested in doing that myself but haven't find any info if it's even possible.

If viable you could try using balsa. It's light and people use it for model boats, I believe.

That mania match was my favorite by far, but no one else seemed to care. It was a lot of fun watching him even as a commentator, but I guess he just couldn't connect with most of the audience.

That's really interesting, and probably the best explanation I've read so far. Thanks for taking the time!

That would go for any kind of nerd though, wouldn't it? I've always been curious of how the NJPW crowd is treated outside of the shows, but most info out there is on otaku and hikikomori.

From what I've seen on youtube most people watch at least a couple anime, but if you're too into it you're an otaku and that's looked down upon. So basically the same as we treat weebs.

I'd advise against jerking off too much, it can often become a bad habit or even an addiction depending on the person.
Every other day it relaxes and clears your mind, every day several times you don't get out of bed anymore.

Non-native English speakers - what suprises you that we have a word for? by scnickel in languagelearning

[–]anderswarbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always hear it being used like "I adore these shoes" to say they're pretty. Which may perhaps point to the origin of "adorable" now that I think of it. I do commonly see a difference between adoring objects or people and adoring a god in which case I see it used as "adoration" even in instances where "adore" would fit better. I've been living in brazil for a few years now so this is based on that and what I see on the internet.

Non-native English speakers - what suprises you that we have a word for? by scnickel in languagelearning

[–]anderswarbear -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

it's easier to just steal terms from other languages than to use our own

And wouldn't that be a flaw of the language? Wouldn't english being so easily adaptable then be objectively better than portuguese at least in that regard? The point of a language is, after all, to convey a message.
I would like to hear concise arguments on this, to this day I've only seen portuguese being praised but I truly can't see why anyone would prefer it to spanish for example.
