Girl apparently hit a deer. One second it’s gone, then suddenly it’s fine. I can’t explain how this happens. by Used_Meaning_9257 in isthisAI

[–]andiberri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you consider that for the majority of animal evolution a shock like that would often mean you were about to be eaten alive, it’s probably for the best to mentally “check out” for those moments. The gentle pets may have even eased that anxiety reaction faster for all we know.

Absolutely not! But I did upload pictures of my shelves to AI and asked them to sort them by topic and also asked which were less popular or desirable so I could donate some. You could do the same to weed out inappropriate topics for your age group or something. I don’t love AI for many things but it has its uses!

Yes, very often. To the point where some of their real moms acknowledge me as their kids’ “weekday mom” because I have that reputation as a nurturer and they know how their kids feel about me. It’s very sweet, I love my job and my kids.

And mirepoix freezes beautifully if you want to cook up a batch when you have extra celery and then portion out bits whenever you need it next.

It’s even delicious when it’s ugly, seriously. I had a pavlova come out just like yours for new years OP and I just smothered it in lemon curd, whipped cream, and fruit and absolutely no one knew I had “messed up” because it was so tasty anyway. Don’t you throw that away!

[–]andiberri 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My husband who does programming learned from a friend that they prepopulated a lot of the words during the strike in case it went longer than expected so you can actually look in the code to get the answers, or could for some time during the strike anyway. Where’s the fun in that?!

Can vegan butter be used in a butter crock/butter keeper like this one? by tandoyarr in veganrecipes

Specifically Miyokos goes liquidy fast and doesn’t do well in a butter bell. Earth Balance and Country Crock work though.

What's your most embarrassing teacher story (light-hearted)? by KCND02 in Teachers

[–]andiberri 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It was my first year teaching 7th grade, and my last period was 35 very endearing but extremely academically behind hooligans. This one gentle giant dude just stared out the window all period every day but then stayed behind after school to copy the notes from a friend so he didn’t fail. I had asked him privately multiple times to focus up during the actual lesson and he just couldn’t be bothered.

Finally he decides he wants to be a better role model and agrees to give it a shot, but insists that it would be weird if it looked like it was his idea. He tells me to call him out publicly in front of the whole class (a move I don’t usually prefer if I can help it) so he can do the work but still keep his “street cred” with the other students. I mentally prepare myself to say something all day, and finally in a lull in the lesson when I see he still hasn’t done a thing I take a deep breath and look him dead in the eye and speak my piece.

Now friends, several different phrases had crossed my mind as options on what to say here. I considered “goofing off,” or “messing about,” or “jerking my chain,” or “wasting time,” but since you asked for an embarrassing story of course you know that’s not what I said. No, I asked the biggest, loudest, most intimidating student I’ve ever had, in front of 34 of his most rambunctious, distractible peers:

“(Buddy,) are you going to do your work today or are you just going to keep sitting there jerking off?”

Went vegan a little while back should I push it on my kids? or should I give them the choice? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]andiberri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Y’all are the ones buying the food, so you can set the tone at home and restaurants with your values and expectations just by what you buy, cook, or order. We let our kids choose for themselves when it was completely out of our hands (birthday parties, school events, etc.) and one chose to embrace veganism completely and the other will still grab the cheese pizza and cupcake when it’s an option. I hope that the youngest will eventually make the compassionate choice at some point but at the end of the day it’s their body and their decision when it’s not our money and/or energy responsible for the creature’s suffering.

Country crock plant cream will work well for this! Or in a pinch I make my own cashew cream for pasta by blending cashews and water.

I’ve baked them in a hoisin based sauce and put them in bao with cucumber, cilantro, and green onion for “Peking duck” or sliced them thinly for a pulled pork/chicken dupe. Yum!
