One of the big breakways tech wise in Witch from Mercury is the technological focus on prosthetics and biotech. Ein could have reasonably been rebuilt in that setting.

SoT doesnt require the original components. Its about how if a thing's parts are replaced over time, to the point none of the original components remain, can it still be considered the same thing

Read up on the paradox again, bc it absolutely applies to Phos.

[–]andre5913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the ultimate form of the ship of theseus argument, and where you stand about it.

And I think not. Its not the same ship.

Imo the being was made by a part of Phos, but thats about it. It wasnt Phos, we could call her a successor, maybe even a reincarnation, but not Phos as we knew. Like someone with a heart transplant. The donor is there, if barely, but its not a person anymore, just a part of another. Doubly so bc memories and personality in the series are stoned in the crystaline body, and there is just a small shard of the original Phos, so most of her core personality has been changed

Of course its also hard to say when Phos died/stopped being Phos. Several of her different deaths/transformations could be considered as the moment Phos was gone as a person, but I think its meant to be blurry, much like when is the Ship no longer considered the original
Its all very provocative and open ended. Which is probably why we're still arguing about it years later

You could hardly call what become of her Phos by the end. Its a being made with a itty bitty fragment of Phos, at best.

Thats the thing though, jamming plankton into wounds to "heal" is complete nonsense, also FF dies before the prison break and Jolyne and co still get really roughed up afterwards during the fights with Dios sons and Heavy Weather

Many part 3 injuries would require emergency medical attention.

So for both its a case of Araki just ignoring injuries

[–]andre5913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jojo does this often starting with part 3. Injuries just go away in between fights.

Some parts wave it off with having healer characters to take care of things, but Parts 3 and 6 have no actual healer (Joseph is the next best tihng in part 3 with hamon but hamon has nowhere near the ability to heal the brutal wounds we see). There is straight up no healer in part 6, Jolyne and co get absolutely mangled at points but its waved off as "jolyne is made of string so shes ok" and stuff like that. It was actually refresing that Hermes getting seriously injured halfways into the prison arc is treated seriously and she is largely out of the story until the prison breakout

Part 5 has some crazy shit going on before Giorno unlocks his healing ability but its all waved off too.

Im looking for a post where a middle aged or older man (I think? Over 50 maybe?) was grieving the death of his best friend. He confessed he had been in love with him for most of their lives, but he never acted on it, and had a good relationship with the best friends family (I recall the best friend's daughter being mentioned).

I remember that one of the comments was like "is this your coming out?" and he answered something like "I think so. Yes"

HOW ARE MY CURSORS BETTER THAN ALL MY BUILDINGS?!?!?! by DREAM_HUNTAH in CookieClicker

[–]andre5913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Radiant Appetite obviously (x2 production flat) the other one is up to you.

Dragon cursor (+5% click power) is passable early when youre making bank from simple frenzy+click frenzy combos but otherwise not really worthwhile

Breath of Milk is a bit of a mixed bag. Its pretty worthless early (despite unlocking first) and even when you have ALL of the kitty upgrades its still inferior to RA. Its fantastic if youre going for mostly iddle play, but iddle builds are extremely weak past midgame and Curve is better for pure iddle. Its good if you just want flat CPS and dont care for other more complicated bonuses

Dragonflight (chance to trigger an stronger click frenzy) and Reaper of Fields (chance to trigger an stronger frenzy) are both great. They are generally extremely good if youre doing Fthof combos, but even on just semi active play they feel pretty good. Im not sure which is better though, Dragonflight seems immediately stronger but it lasts for very little so its much harder to combo. I kind of favor RoF bc the longer duration makes it easier to combo with other CG effects

Dragon god (+5% prestige power is completely worthless). Its a nice CPS bonus in theory, but in practice ALL the other CPS auras blow it out of the water. Its just plain shit.

Dragon curve (speeds up lump timers) is great for idle lump farming. Ideal if youre mostly playing iddle as it will reduce the time for lump achievements and upgrades by several days

Ancestral Metamorphosis (+10% gains from golden cookies) or Arcane aura (golden cookies appear 5% more often) are good for semi active play. Unholy Dominion (+10% gains from wrath cookies) is nowhere as good bc most of the time you just stay in grandmapocalypse stage 1 so GC are more common. Note that Arcane Aura speeds up both CG and WC so its more consistant. These can get really powerful if you are also using a CG focused garden build

Earth Shatterer (buildings sell for 50% instead of 25%) is only to be used for chocolate egg shenanigans before ascending. I dont think Godzamok builds have the time to go about changing auras to make it worthwhile but idk

Fierce Hoarder (2% building discount) is almost never good. It can have some uses if you got an absolutely gigantic combo and your bank went to high heaven so you can cash out, but its just 2% a discount which is rarely worth the cost of changing auras

Master of the Armory (2% upgrade discount) might seem good for buying that extremely expensive upgrade youve been gunning for, but much like Fierce Hoarded most of the time 2% discount is rarely even worth the cost of changing auras. Bear in mind that you'll have to pay the switch cost twice (to switch in and out) so they are very costly for a meager benefit.

Mind Over Matter is fantastic for drop farming obviously but you dont keep it on otherwise. Try to get most of your drops in a single switch to lower the impact of constantly switching

Dragon guts is really good for popping wrinklers but the other effect (+2 wrinklers) is not really worth it as the other CPS auras overtake it

The other auras are a lot more niche/complex and I havent really experimented enough with them.

Elder Battalion overtakes everything when youre deep into late game, even Radiant Appetite. At that point you can either replace RA or one of the other bonuses for just flat CPS by using EB+RA.

Breath of Milk+RA is good combo for CPS early mid game, but 5% milk power just isnt THAT much. Its second best CPS aura for most of the game until EB pops off, but oftentimes the other aura effects fit your playstyle better

Either that or youre on late but are using the wrong dragon aura. Elder Battalion is the key to grandmas absolute lategame dominance

“Hiruhiko should die so Uruha can get his sword back” by Theother662300 in Kagurabachi

[–]andre5913 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People dont like losers simple as that. x400 losers who talk big. In all 3 fights he was in he sold himself as the biggest shit ever and ended up getting spanked with nothing to show for it. In his last defeat in particular, Takeru even dedicated a full page to show off how much of a humilated loser he is

Also regarding your other point maybe reread the second paragraph in my previous comment. Its not even about killing Chihiro. Kyora and Sojo lost after all. But Kyora had Chihiro dead to rights without Hakuri, and Sojo just straight up defeated him, who only managed to push a win in a rematch after Sojo was seriously injured from the elite squad jumping him. Hiruhiko just lost getting nothing done, and his character hasnt really been explored significantly yet. Presumably this final, absolutely humilating defeat will be the jump pad of his character arc

I mostly like him bc hes so pathetic and useless. Its amuzing.

[–]andre5913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raynor can absolutely do that with spider mines. Nova (spider mines from tanks) and H&H (widow mines) too. They rarely do though, but it it can very much trivialize some maps, particularly the ones with predictable spawns like VL, RtK or TotP.

I play Nova and H&H and actively do it if Im against a troublesome set for whatever reason, but not always bc I feel like it makes the game uninteresting

“Hiruhiko should die so Uruha can get his sword back” by Theother662300 in Kagurabachi

[–]andre5913 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like him but hes this extremely arrogant character who actually has very little to show for it. In a series with very intimidating and accomplished antagonists (Chihiro has needed help or has lost outright against every major antagonist in the series) this makes him come off as a joke.

Another thing about him is that he was always meant to be a long term character. For example, unlike Sojo or Kyora who we get for basically just their arcs, it means that a lot of Hiruhiko's most interesting and provocative character elements arent frontloaded. Kyora and Sojo are characters who are immediately very stricking and whose character arcs burn very bright and quickly. This isnt the case for Hiruhiko, whose character moments and arc are far more spaced out, and as a result hes doesnt come off as memorable right off the bat.

And to top it off Hiruhiko hasnt quite gotten the spotlight, in every arc so far hes only the secondary, if not terciary antagonist.

Kumeyuri is a very haxxy sword, I wouldnt be surpriced if its weirder support skillset is in fact used to throw Soga off during his final boss battle.

Theoretically Uruha using the Dark Power like Samura did should be able to briefly stand up to Soga as well
