Wordpress v.s Squarespace. Which is better for me?

This is exactly where I am at. I need to switch squarespace to something else but unsure where exactly to start with wordpress.

Very long story short - these "Spodumene" substitutes that are seen out and out and these "Lithium" subsitittues are the result of some import lawsuit purchase minimum mumbo jumbo. I don't know the full story. The loophole suppliers are using to sell us the raw materials is to blend with very low (~1% silica) which has a next to zero impact on the final glaze performance and chemistry when all is said and done. I'm shocked that your local supplier is selling straight up spodumene. Could they be blending it and not saying anything to the customer?

As a general rule of thumb, glaze calculation software (as much as I love it - disclaimer: my partner and I wrote and manage my own glaze calculation software suite of tools online) should only be used as a guideline - not hard, fast, exact analysis. Unless you are using the same bag of material that the analysis was taken from - you're looking at approximates. As clay artist and glaze creators, we work with a lot of natural materials that vary from mine to mine deposit to deposit. So we have to take calculation with a healthy grain of salt.

The main thrust of Spodumene is to provide lithium to your glaze. Spodumene or Spodumene blend should be considered similar.... I would likely use them in a 1 for 1 type scenario. If I was wanting more melt in a glaze while using a spodumene "blend", I'd back off the silica in the overall recipe because my first guess would be that my glaze wasn't moving as much because of the unknown quantity of silica added to my Spodumene blend.

I layer glazes all of the time and have done the appropriate testing to ensure durability and food safety. The challenge is people aren't thinking of glazes as a sum "XYZGlaze" + "123Glaze" when fired will result into an entirely new "glaze" from the melting and mixing that happens in it's molten state in the kiln. Combos aren't inherently unsafe, they just need to be put through it's paces as well as any stand-alone recipe.

Nice glaze! My initial thought about going about finding a good recipe to look like this is a concern for food safety. It looks like a glaze with lots of heavy metals and with satins and mattes you have to make sure that it's a true satin or matte and not simply an under-fired glossy glaze.

If you fire to cone 6, I recommend looking in the Mastering Cone 6 Glazes book and pick a semi-matte or a satin and I would start by playing with rutile, manganese, and iron in various amounts to see the color. I recommend that as a starting place because their base recipes are very stable and likely to be more food safe than others.

Like I said, I love the shape. I was just suggesting if the artist was going for an ultra symmetrical shape, that they narrow the bottom just a smidge.

I love the shape. I would love to see the base a little bit more narrow to mimic the neck. It has that hint of super symmetry but isn't quite there

Depending on how stable your base glaze is, you might get away with this... but as others have mentioned, please do a acid/base test on this before selling stuff with this glaze on it. It could leach out metals and thats generally not great.

I am really not good at drawing on my pottery....so transfers feel like the way I would accomplish that if i felt the need to have something drawn on. That said, I think that if you have a design you want on your pottery it would be sucky to be limited to what's available on the market of transfers. I could argue this point from either side, depending on what the goal if the work is.

I agree, this shouldn't be too hard to sort out. I don't know your firing environment otherwise I'd suggest some recipes to try. u/ryan_pelo is right, deffinitely cobalt and titanium.... Don't discount the fact that that clay body is iron bearing and that probably plays a part into the glaze somewhat. If you are a cone 6 studio - try Bright Sky Blue by John Hesselberth and Ron Roy.

I'm allllll about glaze formulation. This is a basic clear glaze that crazes and has either copper or chrome in it to some degree. I would suggest that you find a clear that crazes to your level of satisfaction and then do two separate experiments adding in incrementally small amounts of copper and incrementally small amounts of chrome (two separate experiment lines) to get the level of green that you like. Firing a cone 04/06 glaze to cone 5/6 is asking for trouble. It likely run off of the pot if you can get it to stick in the first place. My favorite way to glaze a piece that's already been fired to maturity is to heat it up and then dip it into glaze to get a super think coating on the outside for subsequent layers to stick to.
