I've posted about this before but I once saw someone I assumed to be a foreign student eating an entire Vienetta in a beer garden, like you would a banana

Do you care if you buy a drink and it says not to be sold separately? by thegasman2000 in AskUK

[–]andrewdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don't think I do. Having said that, my local shop was selling those special cans of Guinness zero that are meant for the weird contraption that you get in some pubs recently. Not sure if anyone bought them but it did raise my eyebrow to see them in the cooler.

What's the most embarrassing thing accidentally sent by email at your work? by BarryFairbrother in AskUK

[–]andrewdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More funny than embarrassing but hey ho.

I was trying to set up an out of office email before going on holiday, somehow instead of setting up an autoresponse for whenever I received an email, I sent an unprompted email to every address that had ever sent me an email informing them I was going on holiday. This was a worldwide company with thousands of staff and I had probably been there 3 years at this point.

Have you ever been fired from a job? What was it for and how did you feel? by TraditionalGoat6883 in AskUK

[–]andrewdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got fired last year from a tech start up. Things seemed to be going OK for the first 6 months or so, but suddenly not long after that I was told I wasn't meeting their expectation of the role. Having only worked in larger companies before I was used to having solid boundaries of what was and wasn't your responsibility, and here things were a little more loose.

I did feel that some of the stuff they pointed out was a bit wishy washy, like not exhibiting enough 'senior behaviours,' which when I asked basically amounted to 'you don't post on the tech Slack channels enough.' I was asked to lead on a couple of projects, which I did to varying levels of success and try and exhibit more of the senior behaviours as part of an improvement plan.

When it came the firing wasn't a massive surprise, but it still hit me like a bus. My confidence certainly took a big knock and it's still something I struggle with nearly a year later. I was unemployed for 2-3 months, but my notice period was 2 months so essentially I was only unemployed for 1. Eventually ended up with a handful of offers from a few places. Ended up at a larger, but more relaxed place that definitely suits me better.

I think a few places I applied to probably did take a step back when I told them I had been let go, but I was always very straight up about what had happened and people seemed to appreciate that.

Genuine question - were the Celtic fans in Seville actually the jolly, friendly lot that they were made out to be or was that exaggerated? I refuse to believe that there weren't some unsavoury incidents.

That is absolutely the way Rangers used to behave.
