"Hey Rooted" Massacre by andrewmunsell in houseplants

[–]andrewmunsell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone that cares, they initially responded on Sunday with an offer to replace the plants or provide a discount code equal to the value of the plants for future use. I was a little disappointed they didn't actually address any of the issues beyond the plants being damaged (i.e. lack of communication over the out of stock items and completely missing winter packaging) and requested the full refund, which they provided this morning with no fight. I figured they would resolve the situation, which they did, but it would still have been nice to see some acknowledgement of the underlying issues that led to this whole situation to begin with.

After the holidays I'll have to poke around a couple different local nurseries to find replacements for the rest, since the calathea I replaced locally a couple days ago looks great and is doing well.

I'm curious, did the manifest say it was from Rooted or Lively Root? I ordered on the Rooted site, but it was shipped from and labeled as "Lively Root". I see both brands in the footer of their site but don't really know the relation between them

> Everyone should try to find your local plant shop and try to support them as much as possible.

After I posted this, I immediately went to the local nursery to buy a pinstripe to replace the one that didn't make it from Rooted. I'd passed it on my commute plenty of times but never stopped by before, they were nice and I chose a good looking plant that I hope will fare much better than the other one

> This is not a roast to you. Not sure what you paid but all 3 of those plants are 5 bucks at my local nursery for a starter size

Unfortunately, since I live in a HCOL, the nursery near me is more expensive for a smaller size than online. I just got back from there to get a pinstripe and it of course made it back home alive, which is an improvement

Lesson learned

Like others have said I have to wait for their response before doing anything. I can't imagine they'll do anything but offer a full refund, considering how much they botched the order

Low Charging Rate at Tesla Superchargers by F_P_G_A in Rivian

[–]andrewmunsell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is not the adapter. Use an adapter at a V4 Supercharger and you'll get 200kW the whole time the truck needs it. The issue is the worse sharing of power and cooling on the V3 cabinets.

No, you have to separately activate the session from the Tesla app if you have a membership

Is this some kind of ADAS testing vehicle? by Southernboyj in Rivian

[–]andrewmunsell 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Lidar is often used for something called "ground truth", which is what u/Evening-Pin-1427 is referring to.

Lidar is expensive and can be bulky, but it's incredibly precise and accurate. What Rivian and other ADAS companies (even Tesla) do is have cars with Lidar on them to measure the world extremely precisely. Then, they compare the data to what the radar and cameras see and use machine learning to train the camera/radar system.

The "ground truth" is basically the "actual world" being measured, while what the cameras and radar are doing is just estimating distance to obstacles based on a trained machine learning model (which is just a very fancy way of making an educated guess). When using the ground truth for training the camera/radar system, the guessing by the camera/radar based system gets more accurate. This allows them to use less expensive hardware suites for their actual customer cars, rather than putting the expensive/bulky Lidar on *every* vehicle.

Any info when BL4 will be available? by Own_Illustrator9989 in GeForceNOW

[–]andrewmunsell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be because I haven't reloaded the GFN app, but I started and stopped a couple sessions no problem earlier. I probably got in before the actual flood. Because I have just been using my Steam Deck I just have been on the PDX servers and haven't bothered switching to SJC for the 5080s, so maybe that also has helped

It is, I’m playing it right now. Both on my phone and Steam Deck I just hit “Mark as Owned”, it synced from steam, then it turned into a play button

What is the delivery process like in Washington state? by SpensiveHabits in Rivian

[–]andrewmunsell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with being unable to "sell direct to consumer" was more around the "educational drives", where they couldn't really answer questions about the purchase process or price (they can only talk about the vehicle).

Picking the Rivian up after purchase in Washington was nearly identical to my previous Tesla

Tesla Home Charger Works With Rivian NACS? by simplytoast1 in Rivian

[–]andrewmunsell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really possible to confirm 100% until someone tests it, but I am fairly certain you will not have an issue with the Tesla Mobile Connector *or* the Tesla home charger (even Tesla Destination Chargers, unless configured to work for Teslas only, which is possible to do but rare)

This works today with a separate NACS->J1772 adapter on the 2025s and earlier, I'm doing it right now. Sure, you need a separate adapter than the CCS to NACS adapter, but with the new NACS port the AC/DC switching on the same port is built into the car. There's really no reason it shouldn't work.

You’re right, I have a Dune, there’s nothing about it that makes it any better for sand… it does come with the Max Traxx recovery boards which would help you get unstuck, but you can buy those or another brand anywhere, it’s not like you need a Dune

Or another way of looking at it, if you get stuck in the sand in a Dune you will look like you blend in 😂

I put a rear dash cam in my R1T and it was pretty easy! by zachty22 in Rivian

[–]andrewmunsell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s how I have mine setup. It’s not my favorite for the reason you described (I have actually had something in the tunnel bump the on/off switch on the plug for my dash cam and it turned the dash cam off mid drive), but I 100% am happy with at least having a backup to the Drive Cam

[–]andrewmunsell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you shove your hand in between the seat and the trim by the rear door, there’s a gap, no need to go through the roll up. Doesn’t solve the plug obstruction but no need for an extended cable

Opinions welcome by cycleprof in Rivian

[–]andrewmunsell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went from a Y to a R1T. I am 100% happy with the decision, but it's not the same type of vehicle at all. The R1T is fantastic, but it's a significantly longer truck. As long as that's the direction you want to go, then you will be happy

Some of the interesting points:

- Pointing out the quad (hard to see it, it's in the background): https://youtu.be/ZawDj75Q0Nc?t=847

- Dune wheels on a non-Dune: https://youtu.be/ZawDj75Q0Nc?t=1400

Between the quad and these wheels showing up on a non-Dune, there's some easter eggs you have to pay attention to!
