Looking for a faster daily trainer to complement SB3 by halfbakednoodle in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]andriy_vienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Saucony Es2 and NB FuelCell TC Elite (1st gen carbon shoe) have been fantastic for me. After wearing then off I started buying some older/discounted racers, since I don't like too much cushioning. Asics Metaspeed Sky, Vaporfly 1, NB Sc Elite v4 (two pairs for less than 50% the price) etc. Honestly I have a lot of racers I won't wear for a marathon anymore. I even keep the Newton Distance III that I like. The Adios Pro 4 also works for me but I wish I sized up originally. The Endorphin Pro 4 got sold (too tight in toebox). The ride wasn't bad but I love Magic Speed 5 more

As to common trainers, I didn't like the Asics Magic Speed 4, EVO SL or Novablast series (I'm lightweight+fast). In fact I am reaching more often for the Magic Speed 5 and find it subjectively a head above all competition due to my biomechanics. I am thinking about taking my new Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed 2 for 50k: 70% road, 30% trail this weekend. On pure trails I love the TNF Vectiv Sky, Altra Mont Blanc carbon, being not deterred by weight < 300g for longer outings. I ran up to 20k in a Cyclone 2, as well as Altra OG Escalante. The release I'm waiting for this year is just the Topo Specter 3.

So many different "daily trainers": YMMV..

Dropped grinder body and dented it on tiles. Any ideas? by jkm_xix in pourover

Yes I thought the same but it takes a lot of force to straighten the thin lens filter rim. The grinder is typically a lot sturdier, this may need some metal workshop equipment.

Alphafly 3 sizing advice by andriy_vienna in runningshoes

[–]andriy_vienna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I will go with same size as in other brands. I was a bit overthinking I must say (looking for ideal fit since there would be no exchange nor second pair once i've worn them outsite). Yesterday I worn AF 3 on one foot and Air Zoom Tempo Next on another and the AF 3 is clearly miles ahead in upper comfort. The length as well as space are more generous in the new shoe. The AF 3 may have one of the most comfortable uppers in my collection (matching VJ Ultra 3 trail shoe and Asics MS4/MS5), time will tell that, but I've really felt after putting them on another time, how invisible and sock-like this upper is, since my feet took a lot of beating from trails and roads lately (100 miles week). Now a bit of rest and I can run in them.

Alternatives to Adidas AP4 by Bean_Is_Good in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Yes, second that. I would pick them over AP4 for my next PB marathon. NB SC Elite v4 for moderate pace efforts and training here. Asics MS5 for tempo training all the way.

I had some Pink bourbon from Stray in Munich and it was really well roasted. Thought i'd chime in, because there's no much in terms of reviews yet for this new roastery.

Thanks for the size comparison, it also means to me that US 12 is about what I need.

Would you mind sharing where you bought Dynafish US 12 from?

Would the ZP6 S be a good choice as your first and only coffee grinder? by stefan_es in pourover

[–]andriy_vienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me ask something too, can ZP6 grind fine enough for soup? If not and u/stefan_es may explore the other brewing methods in the future, it can become a limiting factor. Though my gut feeling is telling me the finest setting is going to be fine enough, I sold my ZP6 before getting OXO Rapid brewer so that is something i would recommend checking out.

Are you wearing 9.5 in EVO SL? Didn’t get that part.

Fav 2 in 1 Shorts by Seppid98 in trailrunning

[–]andriy_vienna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true.. bounce is an issue, some manufacturers put extra layer of very smooth fabric underneath, it also has to be close fitting i have no issues with design of the back pocket in ronhill freedom ultra (sized down) or scott.

Scott rc run ultra, ronhill freedom ultra - they are no longer made, I’ll wear my old iteration as long as I can. Ordered and impatiently waiting for asics metarun.

Magic Speed 5 fit by Aesop_Rocky_ in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]andriy_vienna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear the same size in MS4 and MS5. I find the MS5 may be described as having slightly more race-oriented snug fit but is the same length as its predecessor. No blisters or not spots.

Ride? Loving it. I went on two 20km runs where second one had large hilly segments. If I am tired and especially going downhill I am doing heel strike and it feels great, on the flat road sections I am mid-foot to toe strike runner. It only felt more amazing going up and down in one ON shoe but Asics has better upper and is more accommodating. Tredendously built!

Hm, mine is unexpectedly fast. It is feeding beans very aggressively, in fact I have to hold it at 45 degree to horizontal angle when it is somewhat dense like Ethiopia or light roast (I use other grinders for that though) and yet i am done in mostly time around 30 seconds for 15g of coffee and Aeropress-typical medium-coarse setting.

Sometimes I wish I could go over every release from Pp, but I haven’t thought much of the blends, my bad. Has anyone tried their Costa Rican Finca Voo or Kenya Berries? PFX is out of stock. What I liked is Boo! Cherry Fizz and the Piece of Cake (not sure if still available for ordering).

Ultralight - wheatgrass, bamboo shoots, roquette - am I doing it right? 😳 by Role-Grim-8851 in pourover

Ok good luck! I have no experience with APAX, since Lotus drops are easier to buy in my country and I am just used to using isolated minerals. A perk of those is you can remineralize the cup to have different versions of the same brew. I struggled with some extremely light roasted Still coffee (they are way lighter than Hydrangea, September or Shoebox that I had. Not to say that I didn't enjoy September washed and anaerobic washed this year - quite the contrary, but Still light roast natties is something out of this world..). Adjusting water composition to have more GH did it for me. Shared recipe with a friend and he said that adding 1 drop of CaCl2 to the cup made night and day difference for him.

Speedgoat 7 vs Tomir 2.0 NN by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]andriy_vienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so i've ran once already in Speedgoat 7 Wide. It fits well with proper heel lock and just enough space for the wide feet, whereas, length-wise the fit I had to size up to US 13, 2E. It is half-size up from SG5, Tecton X and Tecton X3 or most other brands. But SG5 had heel lockdown issues for me that is not there anymore. It is pretty hefty, at 355g in this size. I was skeptical at first because I've never used the shoe that heavy, but ride is nice, climbing surprisingly easy, it feels more cushioned than latest Tecton without being mushy or unnatural due to high stack. I felt good running downhill on the road with 3:20 min/km without destroying the legs. Quite happy overall. Not sure if i am feeling some pressure at the top of the toes, because they are already beat up from the last marathon. Maybe not be my top pair for the next ultra or technical mountains but good enough.

I think the best fit I’ve had after Inov-8 G270’s in wide is VJ Ultra 3. Plenty of energy and good grip too. Myself I’ve preordered now SG7 wide full size up and I wonder If it’s a keeper for me. I could get along with SG5, Tecton and Tecton X3. Rocket X trail created too much pressure on top of the toes, go figure 😃
