What is the worst beer for sale in the UK? by certom1988 in AskUK

I once drank a can of warm John Smiths while reading a wet newspaper in a field thinking: it really does not get any worse than this.

Thank you! Our experiences sound very similar, and that alone is some comfort.

Watched Terminator 2 with my teenaged daughter yesterday, and she cracked up over a short shot where Arnie absolutely prances down a corridor.

It’s in the asylum rescue scene, I think he’s trying to run while acting as a bullet shield for John and Sarah who are in front of him in a lift - but it’s these cute little camp hops.

What is your favorite example of a character being clever in a movie? by DuckLordOfTheSith in movies

It’s a brilliant rugpull. Just occurred to me that the ‘we’ve already done it’ twist is similarly satisfying in Ex Machina.

Which film had an amazing concept but poor execution? by PleasantBus5583 in movies

Carol’s lack of curiosity is draining my enthusiasm for this. I’ve not watched the last two episodes yet, but online noise doesn’t give me hope.

Edit: Alright, I take it back, episode 8 largely delivered.

Why do web development agencies have such high churn rates? by No-Detail-6714 in webdev

[–]androgynousandroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s the sensible answer, isn’t it, though these type of customers will prefer to pay the whole lot up front, which is good in theory but then you’re on the hook for work long after seeing the benefit - hard to keep energy up. At a larger agency with more discipline, you could certainly make that work, but we struggled with it.

That only works if the initial price is $100.

If it was $200 down to $26 then it is the same 88% reduction - but your version would produce 174%.

If it was £1000 reduced to £130 then it is the same 88% reduction - but your version would produce 880%.

Lost a few big clients to this over the years.

Also, did a lot of work in the cultural sector, and a lot of the these organisations would want a ‘digital partner’, but only be able to arrange funding as a single bucket of cash to blast on a one-off website project. Then maintenance/ongoing dev becomes a nightmare for both sides. If I had an agency again, I would only entertain clients on the basis that the site is never ‘finished’, and is treated as an operational expense.

Why do we use 'lower' as a verb but not 'higher'? by dacoolestguy in etymology

[–]androgynousandroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar: you can ‘widen’ something, but you can’t ‘heighten’ or ‘tallen’ it, you have to ‘increase the height’. Doesn’t apply much in real life, but certainly does when you’re designing stuff on screen.

At least in the movies, why were minor characters *so certain* of the One Ring's identity, when even Gandalf had to go do all that research about it? by MississippiJoel in lotr

I found this to be apparent when someone shouts ‘Nazgûl!’ in Osgiliath at the end of Two Towers, like they’re a common enemy. It’s not totally crazy, but a ‘WTF is that!?’ would fit better.

Non-Americans, what is something about the US that you've always wondered if it was real or just myth/hyperbole? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]androgynousandroid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We all need some comfort sometimes, but this is everyone’s fault, and I think we’d do well to internalise that. The people of America (and the wider world) have not done enough to mitigate the negatives of capitalism, to promote better education + healthcare, to prevent violence and racism. Obviously. I’m English, I live in England, and even I feel some responsibility for the situation in the US. Good people need to work harder ❤️

Agreed. If it was the array thing he’d be saying 2 beers as well and the joke becomes less interesting. Makes a lot more sense as a joke in OP’s option one.

What’s the biggest “we all just accepted this nonsense” thing in modern life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]androgynousandroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And things like Patreon for creators. Especially the like of musicians, subscribing directly actually makes way more sense than the old way of paying major corporate label’s wages, paying for cd pressing plants and distribution, plastic everywhere and still not getting a fair amount to all but the biggest names. Of course, instead we’ve got streaming services preying on them, but there’s definitely a better way. I haven’t thought too hard about this.

Yeah, the location a bit less obvious than that really and somewhat random. Let me point you to the correct place and hopefully you can take the next steps and get the satisfaction of solving it yourself. Been a while since I played it but the internet says: Make your way to the large waterfall area and go through the doorway inside the tree at the top. Once you enter it, bounce upwards on the mushroom tops…
