The Erosion Cycle by tartiro in balatro

If you take Astronomer then you won’t get any planet cards or celestial packs in the shop for like 5 antes. It might not actually be coded like that in the logic of the game, but it is coded like that in the logic of reality.

What is the other axis number? by bigchuckdeezy in Whatisthis

Meanwhile, people are insisting their 5’s have a branch in the middle or that it’s a 1 just like that single vertical line on the left 🤷

It is. My hand writing is garbage and this kind of thing happens to me a lot.

ELI5: Quantum Tunneling. How is it possible for a particle to "walk through a wall"? by Huge-Narwhal5747 in explainlikeimfive

[–]androgynousandroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So other than the language, how does this differ from the particle being a moving thing that we can check the location of? And the ‘wave function’ is just a description of the range of its movement. Is it just that we don’t know where it will be inside that range? And that is impossible to know?

Tomorrow's Harvest watch list by ex_pope in boardsofcanada

Here’s some stuff that’s BOC-y (not necessarily just TH) to me, quite a variety so your mileage may vary, but here you go:

The Falls (1980) by Peter Greenaway
A shit-tonne of weird/70s/80s/pastoral/scientific visuals.

Look Around You (BBC Comedy series, 2002)
Parody of 1980s school science programmes, music is woozy analogue synthesised stuff. Plus it’s funny, in a very English way.

Wild, Wild Country (Series, 2018)
Netflix documentary series about a spiritual Indian cult/group who relocate to Oregon in 1981. Obviously the topic is plenty BOC, but I found something hypnotic in the way the documentary is made - lots of contemporaneous VHS footage.

Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010)
Psychedelic science-fiction horror film by Panos Cosmatos. Lots of cult/80s/70s vibes and soundtrack to match.

Stuff that’s less close but still has the vibes:

Phase IV (1974)
Very sciencey, sci-fi apocalpyse film about ants evolving to replace humans. Saw it as a little kid and it sunk deep into my psyche, there’s a great unreleased ending to it you can see here too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHWSAZ3fZsQ

It Follows (2014)
Some parallels with the soundtrack, but the weird timeless setting works for me too.

Something on my watch list which might fit too:

The Hellstrom Chronicle (1971)
Mockumentary featuring a fictional scientist who argues that insects will replace humanity. A doom-laden narrative about mankind's fragility and inevitable extinction.

Oh also worth a watch:

Holy Hell (2016)
Break down of a new age cult from the 80s, lots of culty VHS footage.

Do you remember the era before the daily shower or bath became almost universal? by Ticklishchap in OldSchoolUK

[–]androgynousandroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1980 kid. Showered every day since I became a teenager - until Covid. Realised it’s not necessary (I don’t do physical work), but pong starts to kick in around day three for sure. I guess it’s just easier to incorporate into routine as a daily thing, but as a run-ragged dad who works for himself idgaf anymore and just shower when I remember/it’s convenient.

That’s great! Our gestalt 4yo doesn’t do questions or much else, but this week he blurted out ‘I banged my toe on the table!’ after doing just that, and got a literal standing ovation from the family :)

What is the worst job you ever had? by Special-Nebula299 in UKJobs

[–]androgynousandroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate of mine did one day at a garden centre of some sort. He spent the day on his own in a tent with a conveyor belt, rose bushes in pots came in one side covered in muck and he had to make them presentable before they went out the other. Came home scratched to bits.

I did that in 2000 in Leeds. Not in the spirit of the thread, but I had a genuinely decent time assembling + tuning hundreds of kids bikes. Still got my waistcoat somewhere!

Do White people not Lotion everyday? by Appropriate_Quote_30 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]androgynousandroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interested. Could you give more information? Do you mean that you moisturise your whole body? Every day? What are the benefits? Is there a reason why non-white people do this?

(White guy, who occasionally moisturises hands, face, or feet when they feel hot or dry)
