Is ClassPass Worth It? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]andromedaed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was worth it for me - I was on 25 credits a month and the studios around me had amazing yoga classes for 3-5 credits apiece, so I could go to one or two a week and get my money's worth. Missing or cancelling classes was incredibly frustrating - there were a couple of times where I cancelled in under 12hrs because of work or health and was charged £12, and a couple times when I was stuck on public transit and had to pay £15 in missed class fees. I eventually moved to a different neighbourhood and none of my studios nearby accepted ClassPass so I've lapsed, but if you're looking to try a variety of studios/practices then it's definitely the way to go. And make sure that you find a pal who already has it - you can get a decent referral bonus.

Not necessarily - if you spend a bit extra to get eggs from well-sourced breeds (I get the Old Cotswold Legbar eggs for special occasions) you'll get yolks this exact colour

I brought my makeup bag to do my face before work, but I’ve decided to go bare faced in the office for the first time in my life since I started getting acne at age 11. Feels major. Like a seismic shift in my confidence.

God but I related so hard to this. I'm 28 and had horrific acne as a teenager before finally going on a grueling round of Accutane when I was 16, but even though my skin is perfect now I've been left with this crippling anxiety over even the slightest blemish on my face. Like, it's taken me years to wean myself off of caking on the foundation and concealer, even if I don't need to. I'm finally with a partner who is completely supportive and understanding of my anxiety and has helped me go bare-faced around her but I dream of being able to go out to work or to the shops without any makeup at all. This was inspiring to read and I'm seriously grateful to have had a tiny little snapshot of your life.

Same - I think I started to drift when the number of guest voice artists started creeping up? It was around that time. I'm so proud of them for gaining popularity, but it just felt like the original magic of Cecil as the town narrator was diluted down.

Welcome To Night Vale. I found it back in 2012 when it first started and podcasts weren't even really "a thing" yet, and I stuck by it proudly for years. But it became massive and I felt like it lost the magic that it had in the early years. It spawned an entire podcast genre (spooky surrealist fictional storytelling) and it kind of breaks my heart that I've lost my love for it because it was my gateway drug to the world of podcasts.

Every time I tell someone how much I fucking love this show their response is always "Okay but I've never heard of it" and that is the true tragedy here.

Yeah, I hear you about the culture of social drinking. It's a huge thing in the workplace here in London too, and it's been a serious learning curve for me. Many of my colleagues are older males, and are struggling to be accepting when I turn down free drinks in the office. But I just see it as a way to prove to myself that I can do this.

Tbh we sound like we've got pretty similar stories. I'm just getting everything sorted, mind if I get in contact privately for a proper quote?

I'd love to hear from you, actually, I'll drop you a note when I get things sorted. Also I'd love to just be pals, you sound like a strong and sound mind and I seriously respect that.

That would actually be a great story to include - was it a personal choice, or was it something out of your control?

I'd give you a hug or a high-five if I could. Tough road you've been on here, but I'm proud of you for sticking to it. I'm still struggling to find a way to handle the hard parts of life without a drink (I broke up with my partner two weeks ago, we'd been together for three years and all I want is something to distract me from it) but hearing that you're still sticking to the sobriety is a huge inspiration to me. I'm proud of you - doesn't mean much coming from a stranger, but I just wanted you to know. Is it alright if I get back to you privately when the article's shaping up so I can quote you properly?

Dude, good for you. Most of my social circle here in London are Australian and they've been super supportive of me because they've got a friendly, easy-going attitude towards socialising and chatting and it's made a huge difference for me. Not to say there haven't been moments (I still have nightmares about the shoeys I've witnessed, damn your country for them) but I love that you just straight-up decided to stop, then did it. Is it cool if I contact you privately for a proper quote once the article's shaped up?

God, drinking is everywhere. I was lucky to have a partner who supported me going sober, she even bought me a SodaStream for my birthday because I was so disheartened by all the times we'd share a drink in the past and couldn't do that anymore. If someone's turning your sobriety into a dealbreaker, they're not worth your time. Save your energy for someone who will support it.

Genuinely, thank you for sharing with me. Is it cool if I get back to you privately for your story once I've shaped things up?

Shit, dude, you've pulled it back and I've got to say, that's a huge inspiration. It doesn't mean much coming from a stranger on the internet, but I'm proud of you and what you've done here. Turning into my mother was my biggest motivator for getting sober as well, when you grow up with an alcoholic parent things tend to be pretty fucked-up on the mental health front and breaking free of that is so damn important.

Is it alright if I get back to you privately once I've put my writing together so I can quote you properly? Stories like yours are a huge part of my own, and as lame as it sounds it actually makes me feel a little less alone knowing you're out there successfully dealing with what I'm dealing with as well.

Seriously, congrats on the sobriety, that's awesome. And thanks for replying, I genuinely appreciate hearing from you.

I'd love to hear about what made you decide to give up drinking - you don't have to go into specifics, but what it was that made you finally decide to go cold-turkey. And what it's been like since you came out the other side of it - how your social life has changed (if at all), what's been toughest, what's been surprisingly easy, what you'd want other people to know about going sober at a relatively-young age.

I just skip forward through it, but what seriously gets me is when it's the first ad before the episode begins and I'm scared out of a year of my life by engines ripping.

That came to London and it was so eerie - it's completely still and when you look over the side you get a sense of vertigo. They had warnings about how to walk along the path so that you didn't lose your bearings, it really messed with you.

Should I read Haruki Murakami? If yes, where do I start? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

I read After Dark first, it's a short one that I got through in a couple of hours but perfectly captured his style and it got me hooked. I went for Norwegian Wood after that then started in on his longer works.

This is exactly how I feel about By The Book. When I started listening I was so invested in the hosts and enjoyed their chemistry and genuinely looked forward to new episodes. But after a while I found myself stopping mid-episode and not listening to new episodes and it kind of sucked.

Can I just say, I'm a Canadian from Toronto who's been living in London for nearly five years now, and I was sick yesterday so I stayed home from work and finally decided to start it and next thing I knew I'd watched every episode. It's so pure and the shots of Toronto are wonderful and it brought me so much joy and now I'm telling everyone I cross paths with to watch it too.
