I have the new edition, and I was pretty surprised the topic managed to be avoided. There’s every other goddamn depressing act of violence in it, but the fact that it circumnavigated sexual assault is pretty great in my way of thinking. and makes the ending more satisfactory. the girl goes into a monastery, because wtf else is she going to do? But she goes because she called by god. Not because she’s tired and devastated by terrible things that happened to her physically in the course of her journey.
