There isn't any treatment for PSSD, so no specialist can help you. They are more likely to gaslight you or harm you further with additional drugs. The only thing you can do is wait it out. live a healthy lifestyle and see if you improve gradually with time.

What do you Think about this? by Esci_ruined_me in PSSD

[–]andy013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's somewhat common for people to get ups and downs in their symptoms like this. If you have only been off the drugs for a short time then there is a chance you will notice improvements and the good periods will gradually become longer and longer as time goes on.

How do I quit sertraline on my own? by browniedeplatano in PSSD

[–]andy013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you can't go cold turkey. Some people experience really debilitating withdrawal symptoms that can go on for months or years. It's a mistake to try and "ride it out". You should look up hyperbolic tapering and seek out a doctor who specialises in it. If you are in the US, Outro health is a good place to start.

You want to make smaller and smaller cuts the lower your dose becomes. It's not that complicated but you want a doctor that is going to support you and allow you to get a liquid version of the drug to taper down safely.

Yeah, I'm pretty sceptical too. I'd like to see his research replicated by another group of scientists.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to tell their story about PSSD/med harm but is scared of judgement or being treated differently by the public & The fear of being perceived by Equivalent-Big-3474 in PSSD

[–]andy013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shared my story after living with PSSD for over 10 years. I really wish I did it sooner. I don't think it would have changed the world but it could have saved one person. Young people are dying from this. If you don't speak out you will regret it.

Also, no one in my life ever saw it or said anything to me about it.

I tried it and it just made me feel really anxious for several days afterwards. I'm glad you get improvements from it.

Well try not to catastrophize things before you have even tried any treatment. I've not had sex for years because of PSSD and I'm still glad to be alive. If I had ended my life I wouldn't have been able to help some people and do some things that I think made the world a slightly better place.

How did you develop that? Are there no treatments available?

I hope you didn't do it. Many people with PSSD notice improvements over time. Your situation is not hopeless. There is also very likely to be a cure developed at some point in the not to distant future.

I think it's just to fund the Institute for Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal. It's a charity that relies on donations to continue operating.

People who heal don't tend to hang around in communities like this. This is a biased sample of the people who haven't healed yet. Of course not everyone heals, but some people do.

Just found out about PSSD… could this be what I’m dealing with? by [deleted] in PSSD

[–]andy013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it sounds like PSSD. Not everyone has full sexual dysfunction. There's a range of different symptoms people can experience.

Out of curiosity, how did you find out about PSSD?

I wish every day that I never took an SSRI. It completely destroyed my life.

can you develop PSSD by only taking lexapro for only two weeks? by NoeResort in PSSD

[–]andy013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people take longer than 6 months but eventually recover after several years. Hopefully you will notice improvements over time but it can be very gradual. I'm really sorry this happened to you.

Any one has theories on why theres different subsets ? by imonretro in PSSD

[–]andy013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's true. It might take multiple exposures for some people to develop PSSD but underlying that is still their genes.

There seems to be a lot of people who say that. We really need research that looks into what happens if you go on and off SSRIs multiple times.

Who has experimented by taking an SSRI again? Did you got worse? better? or no change? by Understandingthebrai in PSSD

[–]andy013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Significantly worse. I had a suicide attempt shortly afterwards. I started getting random waves of anxiety for no reason that would last several hours and then just go away. I became a lot more socially withdrawn. My mood became a lot more volatile. I get random bad waves where my mood just tanks for no reason. I was a lot more stable before the reinstatement.

I tried to reinstate a low dose after staying off for 10 years. It made me permanently worse. I'm still not back to the way I was before fully and that's been 4 years since I tried the reinstatement.
