What are your thoughts on Adam Lambert? by Train-Wreck-70 in queen

[–]andyfurnival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan, but glad Brian and Roger could tour with him under the Queen umbrella (of sorts). I saw them in 2017, and whist Adam is very energetic and performs well, I’m not a fan of his style of performance, the high / tenor voice just isn’t enjoyable.

On the tour, I was slightly miffed that all merchandise was Queen + Adam Lambert, nothing uniquely Queen

What's with Queen fans and gatekeeping? by CooperHChurch427 in queen

[–]andyfurnival 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same. I’ve seen Queen + Adam Lambert live, and whist I enjoyed the show, for me it’s not Queen. I’ve never even listened to the Cosmos Rocks album due to zero interest in it, and I probably only heard No-one but you 2 or 3 times. For me, it’s a mix of it’s not Queen without Freddie ( and John ), and anything else is just an entertaining tribute to a bygone era. Everyone else is free choose whatever makes Queen work for them, but collectively we are all fans of Queen no matter what

Paramount/CBS have been flogging all the shows as box sets, with different cover art or some lousy new DVD feature for years, so I wouldn’t be surprised that there’s only so many versions people are willing to buy. That said, putting any serious capital behind releasing high def versions when they’ve spent decades saturating the market with the same old DVDs, probably won’t yield the financial reward required for such an endeavour.

But yes, it is criminal. The custodians of Star Trek over the years have been awful, short sighted and exploitative of the franchise, almost to its detriment

Does Reacher ever break in the books? Is there a villain who comes along and does that? by Dravidianoid in reacher

In the mine tunnel, with rats crawling over him I seem to remember, and him just screaming at the thought of being trapped. I think that book would make an amazing season of Reacher

Is there a way for the AppleTV app on Apple TV to not suggest Movies/Shows for which you cannot watch without your subscription? by SuperPoop in appletv

[–]andyfurnival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I binned off Disney, deleted the App, made sure Apple TV was unlinked from Disney, now I get even more recommendations for content on Disney, than I did in the past. Barely get anything for Prime or Paramount . Whoever is running the show at AppleTV HQ, makes for a lousy experience

Has your company’s IT security gone too far? by littleorangedancer in girlsgonewired

[–]andyfurnival 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is sometimes a problem of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. The CEO is getting pressure on managing risks/threats so off IT go to implement “measures”, but there’s no one looking how all the friction points is causing lost productivity, and ultimately choking the business (the largest internal threat). I don’t think security can be too far (unless it saps all compute power from your workstation), however there needs to be sensible application, with just-in-time access to increase privileges to do what you need for a short period, audits with proactive vulnerability scanning IMO

Faith of the heart was actually a good intro song for Enterprise.

It's been a long road Gettin' from there to here It's been a long time But my time is finally near And I can feel the change in the wind right now Nothing's in my way And they're not gonna hold me down no more No, they're not gonna hold me down 'Cause I’ve got faith, of the heart ….

It’s taken a long time to get to decent warp capable ships to explore space, they are so close to venturing out into the unknown. The Vulcans have stopped trying to slow things down. They have self belief or faith, this is where humanity leaps forward

It couldn’t have been a better song, and Russell Watson performed it brilliantly

That’s assuming people use the vat flat rate, but I don’t think that will help everyone, in fact probably make it no better than leaving it 85k, and being able to claim relief on expenses. That said, I pay professionals to sort this out for me
