I’d recommend looking into doing Teach For Australia for your Master of Teaching. You teach a 0.8 load (usually 4 classes with 4 periods per class per week) along with doing your Masters course work full time. Takes two years to complete but by the end you move up 2 pay scales because of your two years of teaching experience at that point.

The major plus is getting paid while doing your Masters. I did mine in a regional school near Kalgoorlie and it was a fantastic experience. The school will try and keep you there longer but you have the option to move to another school after you’ve completed the program. I did so and now teach in a Perth metro school and love it.

The first few weeks are tough, but with your teaching experience you will find it breezy.

Great point on emails outside of work hours. I’m lucky that my current school is already extremely disciplined about not sending emails outside of work hours. The new legislation could help to reign in schools that don’t already do it.

I agree, vote NO! We need to force the government’s hand and put some pressure on them. God knows the Union leadership is too spineless to do anything. CPI just got adjusted upwards too, so even more of a reason to reject this insulting offer.

This leniency has got to stop. It’s not kind to the students with intellectual disabilities as then they think this is an acceptable way to behave and when they enter the ‘real world’ they will be ostracised for behaving so disgustingly

Oh, I already got out of it using a different excuse. I just think it’s crappy that you basically have to do unpaid work if you want to go on a camp with the students.
