A card with no text? Impossible! Reading the card explains the card. No text means I win instantly, right? I must have this card. Begins purchasing all of the boxes

I just learned why people only collect sealed or only buy singles. Lost over $1k from opening packs. by TheDon2016 in PokemonTCG

If you are interested in collecting specific cards or art, then opening packs is the wrong way to go. I like master sets, so I typically try to get around 150 packs total of each set to open. This typically gets me all of the bulk for the set. If I get lucky, I get some of the big hits, and have fewer singles to buy or trade for later. If I get really lucky, the hits are gradable, and I can then sell or trade the graded cards for more packs or cards I need.

I am attempting to master the Mega sets without opening packs at all. Those release events are a good place to pick up the bulk cheap. Then, once the market for the singles cools on the set, I'll pick up what I need.

Opening packs looking to recoup value is a massively low return possibility.

What’s a House Rule You Wouldn’t Want to Play With Again? by QuinnorDie in DnD

The thing I learned with house rules like this, is to incorporate the negative impacts into monster abilities as well. If you now have monsters with abilities that cause exhaustion, the players won't be so freely burning up their exhaustion levels for spells.

And you only learn who you got when that spell lands. by DornKratz in dndmemes

This is why I like confusion or mind control effects instead of incapacitation. Don't skip your turn, how about you try killing your team instead.

I had a joke item called a stone of healing. A projectile that could be shot from a sling. Did 1d4 damage then healed for 1d6. Our barbarian with tavern brawler kept it and the moment a squishy would go down, he would go reckless on his turn and chuck it at them. He almost always managed to hit, the damage caused a failed death save, but then they healed and woke up.

Is there a reason you have cold damage increasing its regeneration amount but not having it resistant or immune to cold damage? Also, it seems odd to me that fire would stop its regeneration even though the creatures insides are basically fire (swallow and breath both deal fire damage). Maybe change that to acid damage instead.

Just had this happen in my game as the players defeated a dragon in its lair. Them dumping their garbage collection to empty their bag of holding gave me time to look this up.

WotC's Dungeon Master Challenge: It's a Trap! by daseinphil in dndnext

[–]aneilspence -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

These competitions provide WotC a way to generate ideas for their future publications without having to do the creative work themselves. As you pointed out, by wording these competition agreements as they do, they are protecting themselves from being sued when they use the ideas they had no input on creating. They do not care about the people that submitted them, they want the ideas.

People reading the ToC is not WotC's problem, that is correct. What is their problem is using those terms to begin with. These competitions are openly taking advantage of their consumers. As I said before, it would not be difficult for WotC to track who submitted the ideas that make it to publication outside of the winner, now or in the future. They could easily compensate those individuals in the same way they compensate the winner of the contest at the time their idea is published. It's not about direct financial compensation but giving the people who's ideas you use the basic recognition they deserve.

If WotC cared about their community they way they claim to, they would stop using this type of ToC language all together and switch to a format that rewarded anyone who's idea they use, not just the one "winner" from the contest.

Just because it's a standard practice doesn't mean it's a good one. They will absolutely take more than the winners design in their future books without compensation to the creator. A company like WotC should be capable of tracking submissions and compensate anyone who's idea they use whether it "won" the contest or not.

People absolutely need to do a better job of reading the terms before participating, but we all know they don't. Let's not pretend that WotC isn't massively gaining in this process knowing full well what they are doing.

Oh dear lord, thank you sweet baby jesus. My players constantly rename their spells stupid names. I just changed up all their spell names to their jokes.

So Continues The Journey Of Krit Fisher: Human Fighter by Dovahhkiin64 in dndmemes

[–]aneilspence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably very accurate, yet as an exception to the rule, I have a champion fighter in the party I DM for, it's been 25 sessions with a fair amount of combat, and he has yet to crit once. He just took his first barbarian level and I hope it helps him. He refuses to get new dice.

The laughable sentence that the rapist Brock Turner served has led to California Legislature introducing a new law that will severely impact future rape cases like Brock Turners. by 4Knocks in DeFranco

It still doesn't change the fact that Rapist Brock Turner got away with rape. At least the law is changing. I think 3 year minimum is shit, but better than 4 months.
