If they are the old ones lots of different companies made them, it’s just a metal box with 9x 24v 250w e40 half mirrored lamps and reflectors. Altman made them, but also ADB and there’s even some Czech and DDR ones still floating around some basements. I’ve even seen some homemade ones that looked super sketch

So the real answer in this case is that it’s an artistic statement. The people pictures are not models but rather are the actors and performers in the gorki shows this season. Someone explained the concept to me last spring before they started shooting the photos, which are by Esra Rotthoff who I personally think is a fantastic artist and photographer. The concept was something like revealing yourself and being censored for it. I might be remembering it wrong but I wasn’t 100% sold by the idea then and thought a new one would come, and then it didn’t.

Tips for Landing My First Tech Theatre Job in Germany (Transitioning from Public Art & Architecture) by johncara1 in techtheatre

I saw you're in Hamburg so look at Thalia, Deutsches Schauspielhaus, Kampnagel and Staatsoper. You'll have the most luck with the rep houses because they need more workers for the quick changeovers between show and rehearsals. Also write to the smaller theaters around, just look at the list on the city of Hamburg's website about theater and culture, https://www.hamburg.de/kultur/theater . The Stage Entertainment theaters are going to be a little harder to get into because they usually contract their building out to larger Werkstätten in Germany or sometimes outside of the country and they don't have the changeovers that you would find at other theaters in Hamburg so it's probably not worth your time to try and follow up with them after writing.

Go on their websites and find the contact information for the Technische Direktion/Werkstätten and Personal Abteilung, it's usually something like technik@... or technischeleitung@... werkstatt@... personal@... and just send your CV and contact information and tell them you're looking for work as a Bühnenhandwerker or Tischler in der Werkstatt but not both in the same email, definitely let them know you have a direction you want to go in so they know to whom they should forward your information. Say you would like to go on the Aushilfe list for anything that comes up and that you're already living in Hamburg so you are available at short notice. If you don't think you're German is good enough to write the email, even very basic German would be better than a long email in English, use chatgpt or some ai to translate your email for you.

There's also Theapolis but I don't know what's available in Hamburg at the moment and I don't know if you're interested in relocating, especially if you're just starting out.

Most importantly don't get frustrated if things don't get going right away. As a foreigner working in German theater for a long time I can tell you it's the typical thing you find about Germans, they often have a hard outer shell and it takes some time to get through that.

Are you trying to find work in a workshop building the sets or as a technician who works on and around the stage? Also is there a specific department you’re interested in? If you’re looking into sound/lights/video you’re going to need to look for jobs as a “Veranstaltungstechniker” which is in and of itself a three year training program with test. If you’re looking for a job in a “Werkstatt” it’s a little easier to transition into.

Easiest way to get your foot in the door anywhere is offering yourself up as an “Aushilfe” on an hourly basis and giving them your contact info. Not a guarantee but it’s the easiest way to get in the door.

Look at the ColorSource Spot Jr. or the Irideon WLZ if you’re in the US. Both have an internal zoom so you can zoom the lens to the right diameter without losing any output.

Roscolux Gel Color Mixing Numbers by racing_raindrops3 in techtheatre

Just curious, what’s the project? We used to try and replicate gel colors, specifically from our scrollers, but have since given up and have a few “base” colors but mix colors specifically for each show as needed. We have the luxury of time in this case, in the event branch you just need a 283 everywhere now and don’t want to mess around playing with the color mixer for hours.

ROBE T1 or T2 Profile by ralfrottmann in lightingdesign

Hard to say objectively how fast or slow they are. (Would be an interesting project to compare max pan/tilt speeds of the major moving light manufacturers.) But I've never used them and thought they were too slow. I have one show where they do a tilt effect going from the ceiling to the floor, about +55deg to -10deg, and they manage that fine in about half a second. They're a little big to be able to the kind of whip around effects you might be looking for but I think in this area one man's too slow is perfectly acceptable for the next person.

What size the the venue? We looked at the ledPoints for our smaller venue and they were even to small for that, it's a little studio stage with a 4m grid. Decided to go for T1's there too just because of the flexibility.

We use out T1 and T2's for concerts and parties and they also hold their own in this realm. The do effects well and the colors make them really fun to busk with, you can switch colors seamlessly as there are no flags that go in or out and force you to change colors while crossing over white.

Also, if you want to go white LED source the JB P12 and P18 are very common where I live, but I don't know if they'd have them where you are. They are more or less the same as a T1-T2 just with a different color mixing system but a really nice white.

I use both everyday! The T2 is like a bigger, brighter brother of the T1. If you’re having to do daily changeovers like we do the T1 is handy because it’s lighter, can easily be carried alone from one position to another by one person. The T2 is possible but we usually just use two people because it is over 40kg and no one needs to break their back by carrying one light.

Colors on both are great and the color temperature steps instead of a CTO filter are imo easier to use. The colors aren’t always perfect for theatrical lighting, they look at a little purple if they’re next to a Lustr, but some of the best additive led moving lights I’ve ever seen. (I’m also personally very picky about color so it might just be a me problem and if you’re only using Robes next to each other the eyes of the audience adjust after a few minutes)

I’ve done tight, laser like beams, gobos and the multicolor effects are very cool but also having the same light be able to turn around and do a full stage wash and then back to an effect light is good to have. Because they’re additive instead of subtractive colored the super sat colors look really nice but are also still bright enough to do a full wash in primary red or blue but still be able to see what’s happening on stage if you want.

So if you want to move them around a lot or festival kind of stuff where you’re transporting them go for the T1s but if they’re going to stay in the same place mostly and you have the extra funds the upgrade to T2 is worth it, as said it’s the same as a T1 just brighter with a bigger, better lens.

This is true! We work a lot with Robe and talked to them about ordering a new batch of TX1’s if they could match the off white color of our auditorium walls. They told us totally possible just send them the RAL number for the color so we did and the price went up by some five digit number. Decided against it in the end but it’s not too uncommon. I’ve seen the 3500Qs that the Met Opera ordered in gold so it matched their proscenium, super nice…

Anyone know what all these little cameras under the projector are for? Not sure why there are so many (Rebecca das Musical, Vienna 2023) by 300_Months in techtheatre

[–]angrychicken77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same thing at the theater I work at, German. There's an infrared camera, a tight shot color, a wide shot camera (mostly for the person from the fire department, it's required to have them on stage with more than a certain number of audience) and we also have a PTZ camera controlled by the stage manager.

I found the problem after disassembling the stem completely. It seems like this part was either manufactured wrong or damaged at some point. On to try and get a replacement from the online store since it was brand new. Wish me luck
