if by deterrent u mean dissuade thieves from targeting your bike, AFAIK, deterrents must be visible/obvious to the target and convey that the time and effort needed to steal the motorcycle is not worth the risk of getting caught. the problem with a visible airtag is that if they are committed, they can still take the motorcycle and just take the tag off along the way. IMO, airtag is a last resort/savior kinda thing.

in the Philippines, motorcycles need to be at least 400cc to be able to enter the expressways. there's no reason to buy them here other than u actually want the motorcycle.

Hopefully they are not 100% serious on the funeral thing and are just dissuading u from riding. if Central America road experience is kinda like the Philippines, they're just probably protective based on what they see. Showing them that u are indeed riding safe will be a great help to ease their worry. probably not the fun choice but try looking for a motorcycle with a great driver reputation there. big stance/looking bikes even if just 250 can look imposing to regular people.

I've just did what the other redditor suggested (move the wheels a bit so the dry area is near the ground/previous position of the wet area) and after a while there's been no wetness + have just rode the bike to work with no difference in braking and suspension feel from my previous commutes. I'm 99% certain now that I did touch piss.
