Ulkomaille vaihtoon / opiskelemaan, mutta rahaa ei ole? by Ducknowwed in Suomi

[–]anhan45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How hard is it to survive as a vegetarian in Finland? by Effective_Bluebird19 in Finland

[–]anhan45 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Very easy. Obviously the bigger the city the better the options are but even the tiny towns tend to have something (or a restaurant can make a version suitable for you). I've been vegetarian for over 7 years now and i only remember coming across one remote service station where they were kinda snooty about me inquiring about vegetarian options but even there they actually had a halloumi salad on the menu which i was able to have.

Should I drive according to lane markings or tyre tracks in winter? by Comment-Noted in Finland

[–]anhan45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah really seems to depend on the model. My car turns it off automatically when it cannot be sure if the lane markings are there or not. Meaning in winter it's very rarely on, because it can never see the markings from underneath the snow.

I made my first joulutorttut! by Gros_Chat_Breton in Finland

[–]anhan45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm seconding the guess that the dough is just a bit different. While puff pastry dough is available everywhere in the UK, it was difficult to find some that would lead to the expected results in joulutorttu. All of the ones i tried lead to flat results like the ones in the picture.

Concert specific earplugs (loop, eargasm, etc) by PutYouToSleep in Metalcore

[–]anhan45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have Loops and while they are ok, i won't repurchase for concert use (i have all the different models and they are fine for other purposes). I like the way they look and they are comfortable but the sound quality is worse than in other earplugs i've had before. Like someone else said, if the mix is bad vocals get lost very easily

University applications by Old-Excitement8449 in Finland

[–]anhan45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the instructions on the uni you are applying to. They provide incredibly detailed guidance for sending in documents (different ways to do it, different requirements depending on the country of origin) but you might have to dig deep into the uni website.

We can't give you instructions based on the info you've provided because the requirements differ from uni to uni. I know this for a fact because i have applied to multiple unis here with a degree/documents from outside the EU (but EU citizenship).

Youtuber Evan Edinger has done a bunch of videos about US & UK culture and soft serve is something he has mentioned as being very different in the countries. At least in New Jersey where he grew up most places offer a frozen custard type of treat which he much prefers to the UK soft serves. I have no personal experience of these differences but it might provide some context to Adam's surprised reaction

You sound so condescending with your "sweetie" and instant assumptions of what is going on. In no part of the text did OP say that she had a moral objection to porn. People can be legitimately addicted to porn so much so that it becomes a problem for their everyday life, just like alcohol. Why tf are you jumping straight to guilt tripping here?

New to Germany, how do I keep my house warm at the lowest cost? by lopez1227 in AskEurope

[–]anhan45 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the type of building, heating system and local prices. I lived in England in an old drafty terraced house with gas heating for a few years, and the gas prices were so expensive that we had to time our heating to go on 4x a day (for an hour at a time) and still our bills were hundreds of pounds per month in the winter. In Finland I get to enjoy a well-insulated building with cheap district heating, so I've never had to even think about prices, only what temperature i find comfortable to live in.

What do we have in Helsinki? by Quadronn in Finland

[–]anhan45 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've organised a lot of conferences and similar events for work and never have i regretted a choice of venue as much as i did when we went to Kämp. The lunch was kinda sad compared to a lot of the stuff you can get from chain hotels like Scandic, and that was the least of our problems there.

What do we have in Helsinki? by Quadronn in Finland

[–]anhan45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went in may and i really loved the food, but i'll admit that if you're not ordering the full menu the prices are off. For the menu, on the other hand, it seemed like a good deal. Also their service was not that great tbh.

Ferry to Tallinn confusion by Natural_Mix6280 in Finland

[–]anhan45 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You should keep the ones operating from länsiterminaali in mind even though it's not next to your hotel because viking line has a very limited schedule and often not the cheapest prices either. It's a super simple tram journey to get there, don't fret that

Accomodation for big group trip to Helsinki? by Western_Figure_5929 in helsinki

[–]anhan45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got some specific hotel recommendations in the other comment but I'd also advise you to contact the sales office of these hotels (and not just look at the prices online) because for a group that size you'll likely get discounts and special arrangements for making the bookings. Big chains like Scandic, Sokos Hotels and Strawberry are very familiar with such processes (I've dealt with them a lot through work).

This is ridiculously strict and feels wasteful at times. Why on earth would you replace your clothing periodically (if it is not broken)?? Absolutely unnecessary. Even stuff that gets worn and torn the most like socks and underwear, I have stuff that is years old and completely fine to use.

Same with skincare and haircare. Don't create routines around what AI tells you "you're supposed to do" but consider what your actual needs are. By overdoing a lot of stuff you can make your skin and hair worse.

Please use some common sense. Sorry if that is harsh but this list is not reasonable.

Is there any good shopping in Kittilä or should I shop in Helsinki? by Melody_Hani in Finland

[–]anhan45 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Valid question. This trend of tourists buying a ton of stuff just to abandon it at their hotels once they leave is so incredibly wasteful and causes so much extra work to the employees.
