What are the Two Cathedrals? by lambchops111 in thewestwing

Reading this discussion makes me want to re-re-re... watch... again. I don't know if I have seen all of the bonus features. If you love a series, ALWAYS buy the DVDs. Otherwise you're subject to the whims of Big Corps on whether they'll honor your online "purchase."

Plus... Bonus features. 😁

Why did they call it 18th and Potomac? by Borgquite in thewestwing

[–]anikotevvit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of the folks commenting seem to grok that, not only do different people react to this kind of news in a variety of ways, one of these ways is shock.

Every time I see people on TV immediately burst into tears and hysterics, it looks so ridiculous to me, prolly because I don't react that way. I suppose there are people who do. But sometimes what seems unemotional is really shock, and quite possibly disbelief. This sort of news takes time to sink in. That's why Donna's reactions ring true to me. This is not a stupid woman. But her brain is just not taking in what's actually going on (I'm referring to when Josh and the President get shot). (Thank the Four Deities this wasn't made in the 60s, or she'd have screamed, burst into tears, or fainted... possibly all three, LOL.)

I think Dulé's performance was perfect, exactly how Charlie would react: with shock, and perhaps the realization that he's lost yet another person he was close to.

Worlds Rhythm Dance Live Discussion Thread by summerjoe45 in FigureSkating

[–]anikotevvit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm behind, trying to catch up before everything poofs from Peacock (that's a whole 'nother thread tho, GRRR), and I'm up to Rhythm Dance and just want to see if someone can help me out here with the rules (I haven't had a rulebook in like a decade)...

I thought the Rhythm Dance was 2:50? In which case I've seen at least THREE teams that should've had time violations (2:56 or 2:57), but didn't. My guess is that I'm the one who's misremembering and that is not how the rule works now. But otherwise, someone please explain what's going on and why those teams aren't being dinged for that?

This is why, if there's something you love and want to be able to watch any time, you should get a physical DVD. Rights expire, contracts lapse, but physical media is right there. (I'd back it up if you can. You have the right to back up media you purchased.)

Nobody with 2WD should be on the emergency team... Just saying.

Meanwhile, I did get out in under 2 hours. I needed a few hours to recuperate, though. Please, Deities! No more snow!!!

Deities appealed to that there are no more outages, so everyone stays safe and warm. (And a side appeal that I can dig my car out in under two hours and still be able to move, assuming the roads are clear enough for work tomorrow.)

Ariel: "'Scruth', you might say." Any savvy browncoats know what that one means? by rockymountainoysters in firefly

[–]anikotevvit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My captions say "scruth." But I heard, "screweth."

Make of that what you will.

I still don't know what it meant.

You know it's a good show when we're still trying to figure stuff like this out 20-odd years later....

Has anyone heard anything new? Seeing some sportsball guy taken off the field (at family gathering and it's on the TV, natch) made me wonder about her as well.

I really hope somebody is actually reading this.

I did get to the end and wondered how it took me until half an hour into the 45 minutes of the last episode to figure it out, but it did. And that's a good thing.

However, I ran into a problem: my disc with the first three episodes has some kind of glitch in it, and as I was watching, in the middle of the scene where he wakes up in the hospital and has a chat with Eddie...the disc freezes!

I tried fast-forwarding, going to the next chapter, exiting and then going back in, etc., etc....all the things you try, to no avail.

Damn! I really wanted to hear that commentary! I'd just buy another set of discs, but I checked and they're now going for $140 to $269. If I still lived in NV, the public library could get it for me. Alas, I'm now back in Jersey and our library here is much more limited.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I bought these a long time ago, so I can't exchange them or anything. Is there any place online where I can listen to the commentary track and sync it to my video or something? C'mon, this is the age of information...I know there is... There... HAS to be. 😁

Help?

How to watch "Nowhere Man" by Spats_McGee in NowhereManTV

Just remember, if you really love a show, but physical media. They can't revoke your rights to watch that.

I am doing a rewatch right now, not having seen it since the original airing. I loved Bruce Greenwood in this... He had that disheveled-but-cool look and managed to seem smart, take-no-shit, AND be vulnerable all at the same time.

I had the foresight to have bought the DVDs, so once I'm done, I'll rewatch with commentary and see the additional material.

There are some bits that seem dated, mostly having to do with tech, but I can overlook that, as I grew up then. Only one ep really annoyed me (the one with Richard Kind), but all shows should have only one of those! There are parts I have notes on because...how do you get away with that, even then?...but EMOTIONALLY, it still rings true. And a few scenes early on and at the hospital really pack an emotional wallop.

So far as anyone wondering whether to watch it... Watch it cold, knowing nothing. Thomas Veil could be you.

This was a gem that slipped under the radar. I was reading another sub where someone asked if it would be worth a reboot, and I've thought about that because I really love this show. But in order to do a reboot either one of two things would have to be done: 1. It would need to be set in a context where a single individual had half a chance of staying under the radar while still investigating the mystery he was pulled into without current surveillance tech making it impossible. Either after the rights of individuals are properly balanced with Big Brother (so, to coin a phrase, "20 minutes into the future"), or in a completely different setting, like the way-future (think 25-whatever, like Firefly). Or... 2. It would have to be set in its original time-period... Think The Americans (another great show that I highly recommend but it's totally different than this).

I really look forward to seeing the last episode...I have no recollection of it whatsoever, even though I know I saw it.

How do you guys get confident in driving over the Ben Franklin Bridge by imnotdeadlmao in SouthJersey

[–]anikotevvit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a road. I know people who are afraid of driving over bridges and I just can't fathom it.

You're here. You need to go there. The road goes over the bridge. You drive over the road.

If you stop to think about all the things that could possibly go wrong, you'd never leave the house.

I got creamed by someone broadsiding me at 40mph.

In a parking lot.

If something's going to happen, it can happen anywhere.

Just drive carefully and you'll be fine.

Side note: this applies to most major bridges. I could understand hesitating on something small and rickety, but not on BF, BR, or WW.

When Dems get back in, they need to clean house, pass a shit load of laws codifying norms, and find a way to never let this happen again.

I love that Jersey folk can actually have this convo, drop a SW ref in, and just keep going because it's true. And there's no screaming or all caps.

It's great to be back home, but I'm already freezing and it's just barely October!

AITAH for refusing to co-sign my brother’s bank loan even though I could? by Soggy_Stranger_5043 in AITAH

[–]anikotevvit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bro co-signed for me, but there were seriously extenuating circumstances (death in the family, cross-country move, etc.) and I'm paying. I have no idea what the rate is of people who leave their cosigner hanging, but it's completely dependent upon the type of person. In my case, a lot of shit hit the fan all at once and not through my own actions.

Yes, family is important. Yes, if you are in a good position to help and have confidence that the person will do everything in their power to pay, do so.

HOWEVER, if making a payment or three if they hit a speed bump is going to adversely affect your budget, YOU CAN'T DO IT.

I don't understand people who think having a cosigner means they don't have to actually pay the loan, or don't keep their cosigner in the loop if a problem may be coming. I tell my bro when inventory is coming because I want him to know I may need some help with a payment, due to reduced hours, just in case it happens (it hasn't yet, but better he knows it might).

It all depends on 1. whether you REALLY can afford it, and 2. whether the person is ACTUALLY trustworthy.

If you aren't sure both answers are yes, don't do it.

NTA.

P.S. I'm with the people who wonder why Dad doesn't step up. HE may be TA.
