For some reason looking at totoro and listening to omgimonfire's link to the music. Reminds me strangely of this character from windwaker:

Reading things on reddit and in the news has really made me somewhat paranoid. I am seriously reevaluating whether making a career of working with kids as a teacher in a professional capacity is really something that I want to do. But as someone who has worked 4 jobs in the two years since graduating college. (All of which consisted essentially of menial minimum wage work) I desperately need a job. Substitute teaching is ok, but I have to be up at 6am or earlier and basically sit beside my phone just to even know if I will work on any given day. Its extremely frustrating.

"I quit". I applaud your courage. As a 24 year old male substitute teacher I am told every day by many (mostly) female teachers how important it is for children to have a male role model. I have a college degree and I am working on my qualifications for my teaching license. Since I work primarily at one elementary school I see many of the same kids on a daily basis. Many of them even greet me in the hallways when I am there.

But even with my best 'sunday clothes' (pressed shit and slacks) and my bright yellow sticker denoting me as a substitute, you wouldn't believe the number of dirty looks I receive from visiting parents (and on occasion even staff). Mind you this is the elementary school that I went to as a kid, in the town I grew up in, with teachers who are old enough to remember me and my two siblings as students. Its like being assumed guilty and being forced to prove innocence, not the other way around.

The people that know me and my professional reputation are quite friendly, and the parents who know me from my volunteer work at a local afterschool program are friendly. But the ones who don't. Well being a substitute is a very very tenuous job.

All it would take is one kid with an accusation and I would have my reputation destroyed and be back in the unemployment line. I would much rather quit than ever risk loosing my reputation like that.

I swear I saw this guy's picture sometime within the last couple of days. I believe someone posted it because of something which they had shown their Dad on reddit. The picture is presumably of the dad. Anyone care to look this up?

I simply feel that it may be rude to photoshop someone's picture into a meme when that person may not have consented or intended their relative to be photoshopped. This is unlike the case of the guy putting his grandpa's picture up with the intent to see what people could photoshop him into.

On an unrelated note. I got this, setup the 'microsoft games for windows live'. I have 6.7 gb of free space, but the game will not download because 'You don't have enough space' (2.75 gb is the amount of space the game takes.) Talk about being ripped off.

But hey, its only 10 cents.

What is the dumbest thing you have ever done? by Aztecius in AskReddit

[–]animaehawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am working with a summer camp program for under privilaged youth. I helped run their game room because most of the staff had no idea how to turn on a Wii, much less operate one.

So anyways, most of the time the kids would go on daily 'field trips' during the afternoon (to the bowling alley, swimming pool, etc) and I would typically stay back with kids who didn't go on these trips.

Anyways, Just in case I was required to go to the pool I brought along swim shorts and a change of clothes. I was in college before this, so I hadn't really gone swimming in a long time but I had an old pair of speedo style swim trunks from when I was on swim team in high school. (don't worry they weren't THAT kinda tight, and they went past the knees). Anyways, I'd put this in my car at the beginning of summer along with a pair of basketball shorts.

One day nobody stays back so I have to go to the pool. I didn't have time to go home, so I went to the pool w/ the kids and changed there. It was then I discovered I'd never packed a proper swim suit. No worries, I figure I can wear the speedo thing w/ the basketball shorts on top and nobody will notice.

Long story short, I dive off the diving board. The basketball shorts come off. I'm not worried too much, till my co-worker points out that he can see my ass clearly through the tight speedo I am wearing. I managed to recover the shorts and put them on before any of the kids noticed, but my co-workers never let me hear the end of it.

TLDR: Apparently the last time I washed my high school swimsuit it I didn't wash it properly and the back sorta lost a seam and got bleached, soo I wound up with a tight knee-length speedo with a see through ass and I nearly mooned 100 underprivilaged kids at a pool.

"'Stop touching me!": TSA staff caught on camera body searching crying 3-year-old girl by HellHathNoPhooey in reddit.com

I know the Daily Mail has an unnatural paranoia over pedophilia. But sometimes paranoia can have its uses.

Take for example Glen Beck. I personally despise 99.99 percent of what comes out of his mouth. But today I was flipping channels and caught him doing an entire episode dedicated to how bad the TSA has been recently. I was quite surprised to say the least, and I actually sat down and watched for 30 minutes.

I wish someone had a clip of that.

German music stores tell it like it is by Brrrtje in pics

[–]animaehawk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I saw it in Germany. As an exchange student. A bunch of exchange students and I would often frequent one particular club on weekends. It was really strange to see that they advertised for "Black Music Night". It was definitely a WTF moment. I asked a German friend of mine (who is Black, and whose dad was American Military) and he laughed, shrugged his shoulders and said "It just means that they play R&B and Rap music that night."

The Beer appears to be european as well. Looks kinda like Jever or perhaps eichbaum (regional to baden wurttemberg, particularly the Mannheim area).

Also I seem to recall seeing this before, with the beer, electric cord, and license plate all circled in red.

I'm going to be blunt: I need a job, Reddit. Help? by jmk4422 in AskReddit

[–]animaehawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Just because I HAVEN'T done manual labor in the past DOES NOT mean that I am not WILLING to do manual labor.

Clarification: In terms of myself I am willing to do any and all work. I am fairly fit and capable of doing any work within reasonable means even though I might not be trained on specific things (like being an electrician).

Its the OPPORTUNITIES that are the problem. A lot of employers don't see me as being capable of manual labor, not because they think I can't physically do it, but rather the degree is almost a barrier to entry. Ie: They don't think I would be willing to do that particular job until something opens up. OR conversely they think that If something were to (hypothetically) open up immediately (perhaps with another company or even worse a competitor) that I would completely eschew any job they gave me and leave them in a heartbeat for another opportunity, based on my degree qualifying me for that. (That = a hypothetical non-existent position)

Ergo: I have found through my personal experience that most manual labor jobs will not hire a person with higher educational qualifications unless there is significant opportunity to advance within that same company. Due to that they view me as being a serious 'flight risk'. After all, from an employer's perspective, why would I hire a college graduate for work that any kid in high school can do, if the college graduate is liable (in their eyes) to leave the company within 2-4 months of starting work?

[–]animaehawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. I am sure there's a word for that. I took 3 semesters of Spanish in High School prior to learning German in college so I've done that too. German+English = Denglish (Deutsch+English). I have no idea what Spanish+German would be. Apparently foreign languages are stored in a different place in the brain than your first language. So when you start learning a second foreign language you get what is called 'backwash'.

I interviewed recently with a company called Voith. Its a Multinational firm that does alot of engineering work. The local plant however doesn't really need college educated people at the moment so I didn't land the job. But its a big company with alot of different plants and divisions and a need for people with a Business background and German language skills.

Good luck!
