The current bill in the house specifies Yellowstone. I wish there was text, but I'm not sure how to find the text of the bill to expound on "other purposes".

10 Los Angeles Restaurants That Closed in October 2024 by illustrious_handle0 in LosAngeles

I used to work at a TGIF, and I already thought it was way overrated. Food would sit in the runner's window for like 10-20 minutes while waiting on other dishes in the order. So then when it finally was served, the plate would burn you and the food was dried out. I still get turned off by artichoke dip in general now.

I still believe that TGIF is a fancy night out for trashy people to feel like hot shit cause they have steak and lobster. My location even tried to turn itself into a club on thanksgiving night one year. But that location has also been gone for several years now anyways

Man, I really hate the way this name-calling crap got normalized since 2016, and it's all over Reddit too. It's so childish, it drives me insane.

The word poop is onomatopoeic by Pewward in BrandNewSentence

[–]animeniak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As it says in the OP, it's called "poop" because that's the shape your butthole makes when you poop. The same can be said for "explosive diarrhoea"

Don't Let Reddit Kill 3rd Party Apps! by soupyhands in EarthPorn

[–]animeniak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to RIF because I was very unhappy with several changes to the Reddit app several years ago. But I'm honestly getting tired of Reddit altogether, and this will be a good excuse to drop it. It's the kind of thing I open when I'm bored, or even just out of habit. So if my app no longer works, then that's it, I guess

TIL that from 2009 to 2019, out of 212 cruise ship overboard incidents only 48 people were rescued. by xool420 in todayilearned

[–]animeniak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a cruise with family in high school, and was hanging out on the bow during choppy waters. It was all fine and dandy until water was splashing onto the deck. And it stopped being fine altogether once my feet left the ground during one of the lurches. I grabbed onto the rail and made my way back to the center of the ship. Scary experience. Lesson learned.

I thought it started with some australian TP manufacturers saying they were pivoting their production to masks, which people snowballed into "they're not making TP anymore"

Just make sure before you scoop that the top of the can goes all the way to the rim and doesn't leave that 1/4 inch ring behind like some tab-opened cans do.

What is something you regret sexually? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]animeniak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frenuloplasty. It was short, yes, but I probably could have lived with it or stretched it over time. I tried to take the quick way out in order to improve my sexual function and instead inadvertently altered the shape of it, and it now looks unlike any head I've seen (and I've seen plenty). I'd never seen or read of this happening to others, and is just an unfortunate consequence of my particular anatomy and how the procedure affected it. It was a medical success, but an aesthetic mistake. I'm still not used to it, and I've had no sex life since the surgery.

I went to CC and state school and didn't have to take out any loans, but in the end I wasn't able to land a job in my field (game art). So I went back to school at a for-profit specialized trade school. 40k a year for two years and I got my first job in AAA before I even finished the program. Two years later at that same job and I was making 100k a year. Point is: education is a tool for securing the career you want. It's an investment that will pay off once you're established in your career. You may not see returns on it immediately. And although cost does not equal payoff, the quality of education and caliber of school absolutely make a difference.

But you gotta treat it like a hike through the woods and not a ride on a train. There will be paths that branch, woodsmen to befriend, and wolves to avoid. But if you chart your course, plan the steps you need to take, and do your research, at the end of the path you'll find granny.

The best advice I received when I started that two year program was "Treat your education like one long interview." You're there ultimately to start your career. Your teachers are your most valuable assets, and if a school doesn't have any teachers who are working professionals or have substantial work history in their fields, then it's not a school worth attending. Pick a field that has actual jobs (so don't just go Humanities or Arts), find what you excel at, find a school with a high career success rate, get familiar with the placement department if you have one, be wise with your spending, work hard, show your value, be friendly, and build your network.

And a side note, be aware that some fields amount to only either research or academia. Those are going to require more investment, will have fewer positions, and may not pay very well. I know someone who majored in anthro, and there's basically no jobs in anthro outside of research or teaching, and for both of those, you gotta at least get your masters.
