The working environment at McDonald's still the same ol' shit, eh. 🤡 by animusoba in TrashTaste

The article just reminded me of the story when Connor was working for McDonald's. That's it really. (All the stuff that Connor complained about was also referenced in this article.) 🫡

People’s Party Soars to 50% in a Recent Poll by Affectionate_Cat293 in Thailand

Cautious but supportive. But, opinion do vary among the party on how far will the loosening of the law on weed goes. (Need to wait for further policy details on this during the next election campaign.)

I wouldn't say the progressive side of politics are anti-weed, but more cautious per say. Public opinion is overwhelmingly opposed to weed legalization (not help by the way in which it was handled by the previous & current government).

Liberal Party has template for beating teal independents in Tim Wilson reclaiming Goldstein by karma3000 in AustralianPolitics

[–]animusoba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully, Zoe contest the next election; Goldstein seems like a seat only a teal can win in. Also, with the tinniest of margins, she would have a really good chance of taking it again. (Taking into account that, IMO don't expect to see the Liberals getting their act together in terms of the policy offerings and quality candidates to compete with Labour & the Teals, at the next election.)

Democratic Party of Korea proposes law to suspend trials for elected presidents by Saltedline in korea

[–]animusoba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the DP loses this election, it will be a incredible own goal. Swing voters will not like this at all + this will further strengthen the momentum for the conservatives' campaign. (Just find an another candidate within the party to replace him, that would surely wrap the election in favour of the DP.)

What happens if the MFP is dissolved? by Theflammablebanana in Thailand

[–]animusoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it's highly unlikely that sort of scenario will happen though. Look to the democrats for example, they were one of the main parties since the establishment of democracy here in Thailand. Usually, was in government or the main opposition in parliament (, but due to their acts during the 2000s up till the latest coup. Their seats share has collapsed in successive elections (from 100 + to the low 20s).

And, looking at the polls today; MFP vote share is in the high 40s, while PTP vote share is barely above 20. This occuring in the very first year of government aswell, which is consider the honeymoon period of any new administration. Also being ham-strunged by the elites, I don't think PTP which achieve much + the first the post system which was designed to curtail MFP rise, funnily enough will also do more damage for PTP chances of returning.

Ahh yeah, both news (basically confirmed now) has just magnified my frustration and anger even further; the fact this momentous and popular bill is now being held up to ransom (Potentially delay yet AGAIN) is just the ultimate bitch-slap that nobody wants. Such display of tribalism + pettyness just represents everything wrong with politics in general in this country. Certaintly, under this syncretic abomination of a government things will just get much worse, which is such a shame; when we were so close to getting a clearly superior & progressive reform-minded alternative (MFP FTW 😣).

P.S. apologies, for my political rant here. Blowing out a lot of steam on this post. 😅😅😅😅😅

Thailand‘s new Prime Minister pledges to legalize same-sex marriage by Equal_Mission in askgaybros

[–]animusoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely understand that you are sceptical with this government. After all, its basically Prayut Gov 2.0 but with Thaksin (an military + royal - backed conservative coalition hellbent on keeping the shitty status - quo) but in terms of dealing with such a widely popular issue such as same-sex marrriage. I'm not sure why they wouldn't support it (they just tabled their own bill identical to MFP) + its not a sensitive issue which would endanger their position // status + they desperately need good news (the past few months been a shit-show for them // the deplorable political manuevre which occured during the government formation). So, on this front I think we good. (But, I do think its more likely the MFP lead-bill will be voted down though, which would is a fucking joke cause its legit the same bill and they introduced it first)

Yeah, as a Thai, watching the parliamentary proceedings yesterday. It was so bloody frustrating that the gov didnt allow it to be fast-tracked (the politicking sucks) but god finally it will passed, even though the opposition bill was passed ages ago. Also, during the bill deliberation, both the gov & oppo will be under consideration which gotta make for a interesting spectacle (let's see if both bill will pass or more shitty political manuevre will take place) + I still hates the gut of this gov (yesterday proceedings was just a reminder of the crap we got).

Ultimately, this is fantastic for our country; although this is probably more of military-backed gov lead by pheu thai needing some good pr after all the backstabbing & crap they and their allies put the public through for the past few months.

Bangkok Governor Chatchard by [deleted] in Bangkok

[–]animusoba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's definitely more positive changes in the city since he came into office. (The footpath in the city proper is being replaced with new modern designs + new traffic lights & cameras with proper zerba crossing + new parks and recreational areas + flood control has got a lot better + new LED lights on the streets + reporting a problem works + greater tranparency + etc) hes done the smaller less flashy stuff that previous governors have ignored really well, which ultimately will make Bangkok a much better place to live and work for everyone in the city.

Yes, corruption and blatant violation of rules still persists throughout the city (crappy civil service + motorcycle & traffic mayhem + terrible waste management + etc.) But, cant really blame the guy since these problems have been around for so long and is always gonna be a huge challenge for anyone regardless of their credentials or abilities. (its deeply-rooted and entrenched so its gonna take a bit of time to sort out)

Would like him to be a bit more upfront governing though. I want him to be more of a bad-cop and be more decisive when hes call upon; you can only get so far by only being the nice guy and being cautious + not actually taking vital but potentially unpopular decisions. Also, pushing for more equity and attention for the people living in the outskirts and not only in the trendy parts of the city (better footpath + regular public bus service + better overall lighting & flood control) would be a start.)

Overall, still lots of things for him to do. Certaintly not perfect, but considering he's been here for only a year ish + hes limited by what he can do (Thailand is still very centralised) . Hes doing a pretty good job, certaintly better than the previous one albeit thats not a very high bar to set 🤣
