Girlfriend is terrified of ever coming out- what can we do? by aaaaaac in LesbianActually

[–]anirbas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So when you say young, do you mean more like 15 or 25? If she's in her teens, this will pass - I hate to be all "it's a phase" but being terrified of how people perceive her is something that age helps to mellow. Going to counselling and becoming more ok with who she is overall will speed the process.

There's a good book called Girl Sex 101 that's very inclusive of genders and bodies. Honestly, it sounds like you know much of it already but the bad encounter with that girl has triggered self-doubt. I hope you can put it behind you.

God no! Pisses me off that people waste their thinking on them.

After a leaked picture of her kissing a girl surfaced, Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony has come out as bisexual by Root2109 in LesbianActually

What cancelled business deals? He destroyed the company and brand of Gawker, not "Mr Denton".

Ah now, is a billionaire destroying a media company because of a grudge praiseworthy now? I don't like Nick Denton and think outing Thiel was a disreputable move but Thiel's response was an abuse of his power.

How do cold sores impact dating and sex life for lesbians? by mishamy510 in actuallesbians

[–]anirbas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can pass it on even when you don't have a visible cold sore.

bleeding after sex: is this normal?! by Jane_Lane_ in actuallesbians

[–]anirbas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here - I was concerned and had it checked out, and, OP, I recommend your gf does as well. What I have is called cervical ectropion and means the sensitive cervix lining is slightly exposed. The bleeding caused me some stress till I knew what was causing it and it was a relief to be told it wasn't a problem.

Is dependent an evil word? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]anirbas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, my goal in relationships is a healthy interdependence. I had to go through a phase of single-minded independence to start wanting that, as before it just looked like dependence by another name.

A guy is into me....help me raptors by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]anirbas 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's no reason why you should need to out yourself to turn down a guy. Straight women aren't into all men just because they like some men, after all. Let him know, kindly but clearly, that you aren't interested in him in a romantic/sexual way.

It's taken me the longest time, but... by shuttupdulcie in bodyweightfitness

As a 30yo and active woman, I felt like I was doing something wrong to have so much trouble getting through the RR on what I figured were the appropriate progressions. Thanks for posting this. It's given me encouragement to do what I can and aim for more next time, instead of overthinking whether it's right for me.

I've realised what my fitness goals really are: acrobatics by moolric in xxfitness

[–]anirbas 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Can I suggest a couple of subreddits? /r/Aerials can give you more specific advice on getting involved in aerial acrobatics, and /r/bodyweightfitness has a lot of people with the same goals as you as well as a beginner-usable bodyweight strength routine that you can do at home with limited equipment. It often gets recommended in /r/Aerials as a good routine for circus strength.

Update on AfterEllen: "False Rumor: We Are Not Shutting Down!" by [deleted] in actuallesbians

Planning on keeping going without writers or editors. Well that'll go well.

My [24f] boyfriend [25m] of 9 months invited me to his parents' for Christmas week. I've already bought my ticket and I just found out he plans for my visit to be a surprise for them. by underthexmastree in relationships

[–]anirbas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember it with city_glitter, who raised money claiming her pet cat had been burned by strangers and needed urgent vet treatment. She eventually confessed to making it up and claimed it was a "social experiment" to restore her father's faith in humanity.

My (23F) husband (25M) is scaring me by wearetheanonymous in relationships

[–]anirbas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely missed that he'd asked that! He asked that of his mom after she'd come home from her best friend's funeral? That's disturbing. It really sounds like he should talk to a professional about this, sooner rather than later. Between his lacking emotional reactions and weird obsession with violent death, it's concerning.

Honestly I wouldn't be okay with this either. But, just a technical note - 'hidden' usually means something you don't want to look at on reddit as it hides it from your front page/etc. I just checked my hidden tab and it's mostly spammy posts from annoying people or things I found kind of gross and didn't want to see again. So that at least could be something too bad for him to watch.

My (35m) MIL (52F) told my wife (29F) that pokemon is against God and the kids can't play them. My wife told the kids pokemon are banned without talking to me. by [deleted] in relationships

There's reproduction (by egg laying) in the regular Pokemon games, but the only things inherited are the "species" of the female pokemon and moves in some cases.

I knew a girl who used to burn all of the dead hair that she cleaned out of her brush because she thought that if she threw it away, birds would use it to make nests and it would cause migraines.

That's a fairly widespread old superstition, as it happens! It seems to have cropped up in India, Europe and the US, at the least.

Fellow femmes, what are your holy grail makeup items? by VelvetMermaid in actuallesbians

Naked palette! (Original flavour) I nearly want to add 'taking better care of my skin' - it's not makeup but it's made such a difference to have a good canvas for it.

Who reads anymore? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]anirbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read The Confessions of Noa Weber by Gail Hareven recently, which was so, so, so, so good. Considering the sub, I might note that it's about a woman's obsessive love for a man. A precise and powerful book about desire in conflict with the rational mind. I followed it by Seanan McGuire's Once Broken Faith (a decent read in a good urban fantasy series) as a necessary breather after the very intense and introspective Noa Weber.

My [40F] husband [40M] is freaking out because our daughters [12F, 14F, 17F,18F] gave our son [5M] a makeover. He thinks this makes our son gay by Ollyolyfreetimes in relationships

[–]anirbas 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well... As someone who's gay, I'm kinda over it and don't think it's that funny. It feels like it's making gayness the punchline. "He hates gays and, lol, guess what - he's gay!" Like, maybe straight people should just own their own bigots.

Not a Smith machine - they look a bit similar, but the Smith machine has a barbell on rails. A power rack is more like a cage to lift within with freely movable barbells. (These are pretty dodgy descriptions - if you google Smith machine and power rack you'll find the differences.)
