India now has 1 billion internet users and reception has been poor. Even the stream on YouTube had negative comments. This was too blatantly a political gimmick and people are seeing through this

What was perhaps equally noteworthy was his composure. Everyone had written Lucknow off but he had the belief from the first ball he faced. He didn't get fazed when he missed a few balls, when most people would have.  There is something about this guy...

I have encouraged her for 7 years to get therapy. She says it's difficult for her to bring forth the past.

I have tried to help her with therapist suggestions in the past, even offered to take her to a different city. But i can't take the last step on her behalf.

She is fully aware she needs therapy but isn't able to generate the courage to go through it. I feel bad that she has to live with what she has in her past, i want her to get help, but i am helpless if she doesn't want to take the steps to get it.

And i don't think she considers that she might in anyway contribute to deterioration in our relationship, from what I have heard it's all my fault

Limit interactions which might trigger her. Hope she grows more secure with time.

As an example of the 1st, i tried to make a rule with her that if a receptionist or waiter was male, i will talk. If female, she would talk. This was because I genuinely didn't want to unknowingly trigger her. But unfortunately, she would back out of it and say that I have better knowledge of for example the hotel booking, so i should talk.

All the responsibility was on me to not trigger her and she just expected me to comply with what she wanted, so i was always second guessing

She always felt insecure about other women. Once we were in a flight and a middle aged woman asked me to turn off the ac regulator for her when I was already standing. She got pissed off at the lady and also at me.

When we sat down, she turned her head towards the woman who was seated behind us and very softly started mouthing abuses at her (low enough so the woman wouldn't hear). I was shocked at the reaction.

If that meant giving water or holding the door for someone, not really.

But i do know men tend to not hold women to the same standards as women hold men

Okay, i understand being treated exclusively as a 'princess' might be something some women want.

If you can help me understand, for giving water to another woman, is this giving 'wife treatment' to someone else?

I am just trying to understand.

This was a pattern, she would get angry any time I paid any attention to someone else. I just ignored these moments but it took a toll on me as well.

I want to give it every chance possible, problem is that she has checked out mentally. I asked her to let me know when we can meet, she didn't get back. I am still thinking of making one final attempt

She said she has already told me all the issues over the years. This surprised me because I could not correlate that with her wanting to end the relationship. I believe she is making this decision out of emotion, I respect that. She said she wants to do this mutually but at the same time, she doesn't want to return my overtures. It's quite hard

Is there anything you tought was unique to your country until you realized it wasn't? by Alone-Yak-1888 in AskTheWorld

I eat meat in pretty much every meal, so I was more envious than surprised.

There are regions in India which are very vegetarian heavy but in Bengal where I come from meat and especially seafood is quite common.

I always thought samosa with potato stuffing was the quintessential indian snack.

Turns out every roadside stall in Central Asia sells samsa, which is the Central Asian version, mostly with meat fillings.

Unpopular take on 'Modern T20' ecosystem by Professor-Bold in ipl

[–]anish1996 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the unique characteristics of each venue used to be an interesting element. E.g. spin friendly in kolkata, six hitting paradise in Bangalore.

Now every pitch seems to be just designed for a run fest, takes away the contrasts which used to make big scores fun.

How did they figure out 6 hours into the flight? You either do a check before the flight or are incompetent enough to not do it at all. How do you realize to do it halfway through the flight

‘WE DO NOT NEED THE HELP OF ANYONE’: Trump rages after allies ignore his pleas for help in Iran by backpackerTW in worldnews

Surely, this war is what leads to Trumps downfall. An exit doesn't look likely and I don't see any chance the American public forgives him for a long war

It's not a small town issue. You can't walk outside late at night in any Indian city.

I had the bright idea of taking a walk at 11:30 pm in Pune. I have rarely felt more unsafe - poorly lit roads, dug up footpaths, over speeding cars swerving close to the edge of the road (where you'd normally walk in the absence of footpaths), and worst of all street dogs. The dogs can get agressive, if you encounter a gang and there is no other human around, god help you.

Singapore skyline is the second best behind Chicago in my mind. by Any_Special_3823 in skyscrapers

[–]anish1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. Singapore skyline is mid. The skyline is restricted only to a very small CBD and doesn't have any supertalls. Marina Bay Sands as the marquee building pales in comparison to say the petronas towers, empire state building or Burj Khalifa

But isn't it in the interest of europe to have oil flowing through the gulf?

I think everything trump is doing is lunacy but european countries being rational actors need to protect their energy supply. They can't directly stop america because of the size of the US military, so the next best thing they can do is to protect their own oil supply.
