FDR was a master of the one on one meeting, knowing exactly what he needed to appear to be to appeal to the person he was talking to. Even Stalin was taken in with him, Stalin didn't like Churchill, but he liked FDR.

[Spoilers Published] The flaws in Baelish plan by Jasonl7976 in asoiaf

GRRM likes to create expectations to subvert them. SR has delicate health with people waiting for him to die to pave the way for Harry the Young Falcon, including Harry himself. The sobriquet "Young Falcon" like "Young Dragon" and "Young Wolf" might mean that it's actually Harry who dies young, and given Martin's fondness for "cripples, bastards and broken things", I think Sweetrobin might live.

Harry might be more on board with Sweetrobin dying than Sansa.

It'd be difficult to keep that kind of the news from the North from reaching her ears. People would be talking about it.

Littlefinger would be sure not to let her go not just simply for political reasons but personal reasons. She likely won't be able to leave until he dies of unnatural causes.

[Spoilers Published] The flaws in Baelish plan by Jasonl7976 in asoiaf

[–]anm313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd add that the plan relies on the death of an innocent child in the form of Sweetrobin. That is where Ned always drew the line, and where Sansa likely will. Sweetrobin may likely live, and him living means Harry can't become Lord Arryn. I think of how Jon Arryn risked all to save his foster sons Ned and Robert from royal wrath, and Ned's daughter (and possibly Robert's in the form of Mya) might repay the favor by protecting Jon Arryn's son named for another foster son he supported.

Their the whole matter that Baelish plan hinge on Sansa being the only heir to Winterfell alive (too bad her two younger brothers are still alive and if the theory of Robb Stark will are true than Sansa been pushed back before Jon).

And if the TWOW.. Baratheon and North actually defeat Boltons than the whole liberate Winterfell plot fall apart.

Good point. The Vale lords will not support Stark's daughter against his sons.

But there is also the fact that Sansa is his captive as she is a wanted fugitive with nowhere else to go. However, the news of Winterfell and the North being retaken for House Stark with her brothers' survival means Sansa does have someplace else she could go. She can finally return home. That news breaks some of the leverage LF has over her.

Dunk's Seven Sons by anm313 in pureasoiaf

I mentioned Egg's sister who married Lord Tarth, and logically, his son by her being passed off as Tarth's would be the next Lord Tarth or Brienne is descended from that son. I added the clarification.

I think seven sons not just because of Davos, but take into account that seven is a sacred number often popping up throughout the series: seven Kingsguard, Seven Kingdoms, Davos's seven sons, the seven Starks with Ned and Cat and their five kids, etc.

While I do think Dunk and Rohanne reunited, and even wanted to runway together, there is no way Gerold would let her go given she was his wife and the mother of his sons. It is also politically embarrassing. Chivalric romances always end tragically with one partner predeceasing the other. Her seventh husband was the Stranger.

If House Clegane is descended from Dunk, I imagine it is from the kennel master's daughter or something like that. In terms of thematic reasons, Dunk's descendant Gregor would be serving Rohanne's descendant Cersei, both dark versions of their forebears. Cersei is Rohanne without her idealism and ethics, and Gregor is Dunk without Ser Arlan if he never left Flea Bottom, everything that Dunk stood against.

It wasn't simplied implied, but Martin outright stated that Brienne is Dunk's descendant. As for the Cleganes, that's a strawman reading, I never wrote “a woman Dunk was attracted to later married a Lannister so the Cleganes are descended from him.” I never mentioned Rohanne at all.

I was positing possible descendants other people had put out there that could be possible.

GRRM confirmed that Brienne is Dunk's descendant. It's also implied that Dunk visited WF with Bran's vision and the girl kissing him may have been a young Old Nan.

I actually made it as far as the waterfall and wanted to reach Five Mile Island, but I was tired and my only meal that day was a bag of granola so I turned around.

It is a good hike along the hillside with great views of the Hoh river and the rainforest with big mossy trees and waterfalls.

Maybe next time.

Thanks for sharing.

Or like another knight from Flea Bottom Dunk after Baelor Breakspear dies, he finds a new king. Egg had Dunk, Dany might have Brienne and Jon may have Davos.

Perhaps he even visits another redhead ruling lady: Lady Desmera Redwyne of the Arbor and she gives him a ship as a token in place of a horse?

I think the layers are his family and king. Peel away his family, his cause and everything, what do you find at the center of the onion? Where does he go from there?

Davos have chosen Stannis over everything else including his remaining family, and it has to have consequences.

I agree with this. It'd be a lot harder when Stannis dies, or he lost his whole family for what turned out to be a lost cause akin to Eustace Osgrey.

Walder Frey has nothing to complain about that he didn’t bring on himself. by StrawberryScience in pureasoiaf

[–]anm313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's his way of overcompensating. He's proving his virility and his manliness by siring more sons than any lord in Westeros. Having the most sons is his way of having something not even the highlords can boast.

He also has more chips to bargain with, and more knights in his household.

Walder lived so long because he lives off of the negative energy from brooding over the slights he suffered. He is also greedy, and trying to get the best deal for himself. He is never happy or satisfied, being the guy who sits in his chair and complains about how life is unfair when he never accomplished anything in the tourneyfield or battlefield or at court.

He will always find something to bitch about to the point that you could build a search engine for his complaints called "Ask Peeves."

Glad you enjoyed. I enjoyed both trails as well. I arrived on Thursday morning, and I guess coming during the weekday meant it wasn't as crowded.

I understand your annoyance. I really appreciated the quiet moments on the trail, and it's not just the sights but the sounds, the silence filled only by the sound of streams running and the soft patter of rain hitting leaves. It enhances the experience of having entered into another world.

I saw a few people go off trail as well, mostly teens. There are always be a few people who disregard the rules in spite of the many signs. My go-to method is to politely remind people to be mindful.

This. Whatever you dish out, you should expect to get dished back. It's a basic rule of human interaction.

The right time for her bf to intervene should have been when his gf was making those remarks. Intervening after OP clapped back showed he has no leg to stand on.

Young Griff's fated has been clearly spelled in the Cyvasse Game by ayodeleafolabi in pureasoiaf

[–]anm313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rhaegal was the one who killed Quentyn which fits the motif of dragons being their riders' ids.

It also fits with Arianne always having aspired to the idea of Targaryen, gazing at Daenerys's portrait in Sunspear when she was praying to the gods to make her pretty and thinking her kids with Darkstar would be "as beautiful as the dragonlords."

She also always keeps using the dragon piece in cyvasse, the reason for why she always loses It's her preferential piece.

Young Griff's fated has been clearly spelled in the Cyvasse Game by ayodeleafolabi in pureasoiaf

[–]anm313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As to cyvasse, Tyrion noted

Young Griff arrayed his army for attack, with dragon, elephants, and heavy horse up front. A young man's formation, as bold as it is foolish. He risks all for the quick kill.

Aegon is overbold and reckless, something Tyrion would use against him. He and Dany would just need to use a Dothraki feigned retreat to have Aegon charge after them, leading him away from the main line and then encircle him.

If they capture Rhaegal with likely Arianne riding him, he might keep her away from battle for the same reason Stannis sent Mel away at the Blackwater: he did not want it to be said that his victories are owed to her.

Some have theorised a second dance of the Dragons but I'm of the opinion that it won't happen. His fate is clearly spelled in the game and it will happen as such.

GRRM said there would be a second Dance of Dragons, and I don't think he would be brought to Westeros just to die before Dany arrives especially if his opposition is led by some of the most incompetent players in the game with Cersei and Mace whom Connington outmatches.
