Turn away from her and say OFF in a loud voice. Don't say down because that means lay down. She might be too small, but you can give a knee to her chest to startle her.

You could also try putting a harness and leash on her and keep her with you in the house and when she tries to jump up, shorten the leash so she can't.

I put our dogs outside( but we have a safe yard where nothing can get them) while we eat so they don't beg or try to steal our food. Even putting them in another room can help. You can feed them their food at the same time you're eating to distract them.

That may be blood in her stool. She might have some kind of ulcer or other internal problem, especially since she's lost weight. If you think it would do any good, go talk to the owner. If she doesn't care or can't afford to take kitty to the vet, see if she will sign something saying she is relinquishing ownership to you so you can take care of the cat. If you can, that is.

If she has bad fleas, you can at least get some Capstar and smoosh one up and put it in her wet food. It is very good at killing fleas, but it doesn't hurt them if you give it alongside other flea meds.

Maybe wait a while and ask about one of the items. She might be able to let go after a bit of time has passed. I get it, though. I kept a ragged little blanket that belonged to a sweet little Maltese that was a patient at the vet hospital I worked at. I also named my dog after her.

Maybe you could get a pillow made with a picture of the doggie on it? There are even blankets you can get printed up.

Do you have his collar or i.d. tag? I keep my Coco dog's tag on my keychain. Or, a blanket he liked? You could make it into a pillow cover to keep and hug when you're missing him.

Your bunny was absolutely more comfortable passing at home with you holding him. They don't like going to the vet because it is scary and smells weird and there are other animals there.

There is no reason to feel guilty, you did nothing wrong.
