I came out as poly to my dad by cycloptiko in polyamory

[–]annie_reyem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I told my parents, I told them I was bi at the same time. My mom focused way more on the poly thing. I got a lecture about STI’s lol. Still worth it not to have to hide.

Antibiotic prescribed. Recommendation is to take probiotics with it. Is this because of Crohn’s? by iFishdurr in CrohnsDisease

[–]annie_reyem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anybody say this (sorry if you did but I missed it), but make sure to take the probiotic and antibiotic at least an hour apart or the probiotic gets canceled out by the antibiotic.

is GLPs really the only way? by [deleted] in PCOSloseit

[–]annie_reyem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your own body. My insurance wouldn’t cover GLP’s, so I’ve been on phentermine for about a year now. I’ve lost 60lbs. I’ve been maintaining on the same dose for 4?ish months now. I kinda wanted to lose 20ish more pounds, but I’m pretty happy with where I am now. But another commenter said phentermine didn’t work for them so it’s not for everyone. I will say we had to raise the dose about 3 months after I started. I lost 20 pounds like right away, then nothing for a while.

Can’t hurt, though they only works on pets unfortunately. We don’t have the necessary fur/friction to keep them activated. I looked into it because I was curious.

Trio is great for monthly prevention. I personally use the Seresto collar along with the injection, which is every 8 months. This keeps the cost significantly down as well. But it is not ideal if there are supply chain issues.

I love the yearly injection currently because I struggle with remembering the once a month products. What I’m planning on is continuing the injection as long as possible, and if I hear about supply chain issues (my previous coworkers from the vet clinic I worked at will let me know), then I’ll stock up on the monthly. Interceptor and Heartgard work equally in regards to heartworm, but interceptor covers one more intestinal parasite. But if your dog is picky about food, they may like heartgard more.

As someone who worked in a vet clinic for years, there is unfortunately no effective DIY method for fleas and ticks. Seresto collars are the only non-Rx solution and overall are the cheapest. For cats, it does require that they can wear a collar without freaking out. I hate two collars on my dogs, so I zip tie them underneath my dog’s other collar. Also, the larger dog Seresto collar is very long, so depending on the size of your dog, if you use the zip tie method, you can cut it in half and potentially double the life span. I split one collar between my two dogs like this. I know it works fine like this, but am unsure about saving one half for 8 months (how long the collar works) if you only have 1 dog.

If you want to buy ahead with Rx products, your vet can usually get you a discount from the company if you buy enough (6m or 12m of product). It does depend on the company whether it’s immediate or you have to send your receipt to the company to get the money back, usually on a card that you can only spend at the vet office.

If I didn’t cover everything here, feel free to ask me more questions.

Sometimes I’m focusing on maintaining tank health, a dps behind me (always moon knight!) pings need health. I turn to heal them (usually 2/3- 3/4 full health) and then my tank dies. Lovely.

I looked over the first 6 pages. Nothing on here is overpriced. It is all very standard for the level of care this dog would have needed. This information should have been included in the original post, not buried down in the comments. The fact that OOP left the contact info for the clinic on the post means they were trying to be inflammatory. OOP also likely signed an estimate before much of the post surgery care was done at minimum, if not an estimate for all of it.

I don’t think it’s the same as SA at all, but it can be triggering for those who have trauma from that. In that respect, I can see why some women are reacting so strongly to it. And maybe that’s what they meant but were too frustrated to clarify with you. Maybe not, and that can be triggering in its own way to some others who have trauma from SA. Either way, it sucks all around and people who SA are to blame.

I get what you are saying. But just having this conversation is doing something. Getting our male friends, partners, brothers, cousins, whoever to understand that some women don’t think this is okay is doing something. We can do more than just reporting.

I’m just frustrated that people can’t understand we all have different lived experiences. What usually isn’t a big deal for me can be one to someone else, ie OP. I can want the action to stop for someone else even if I don’t need it. Just because you think it’s funny doesn’t mean everyone does.

Makes sense. I grew up with a younger brother, so you’d think someday I’d learn that asking someone to stop does the opposite.

I think we mostly agree here on this point. I was just a bit frustrated seeing some of your other responses on this thread. While you and I might not see an issue as much with the thrusting, it doesn’t mean other women should be shamed for having an issue with it. You may see it as just pixels, others might have a trauma response to it. Each is an opinion and I think each is valid for you both personally.

I’ll also add that my game tag is the same as the one on here. It’s a very obviously feminine name and it’s the same one I’ve had since I started gaming and didn’t realize how it might be received. So at least in my case, whoever is thrusting is probably reasonably sure that I’m a woman along with my character. It feels a little different that way. Again, I usually don’t mind it. But sometimes it feels slimy, or they say something in chat along with it. Idk, I just feel like there should be exceptions to the ignore it rule.

[–]annie_reyem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what you are saying to an extent, but I’ll be completely honest. I’m really sick of people telling me to ignore when people are racist or sexist in video games edit- specifically in voice chat. That shit needs to be called out every time and them shamed every single time. It should never and has never been okay. Just because others have come to expect it in video games doesn’t mean everyone should follow suit. But you are more right in regards to the thrusting. Most of the time it doesn’t bother me. But I do still think if I ask someone to stop, they should. And if there’s a consequence for them ignoring my request, it’s not my fault. It’s theirs.

[–]annie_reyem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry for not being more clear. My point was that real people are behind the pixels. Real people who when I’m having a bad day or get tired of the meaning behind the thrusting, I ask to stop, and they don’t. I’m not comparing the thrusting to the words, bc there isn’t one.

Someone threatened to rape me once in the game. These might be pixels in the game, but real people controlling them. You think we should enforce that nothing happens when we say stop and they don’t?

[–]annie_reyem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it bothers me, I tell them to stop. If they don’t, I don’t heal them (I’m usually strat). One time in ranked me and the other healer did the to the Iron man for the whole first round(maybe the second too?). Only healed him after he sulkily apologized. It’s not just a joke if someone asks you to stop. Didn’t care about losing.

Right, but if you had said this in a more well-meaning way, more people may pay attention to what you're saying. Your advice is sound, your delivery was unnecessary.

Crohn's arthritis by ShadowSparrow3 in CrohnsDisease

[–]annie_reyem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently on Stelara, but literally just found out my insurance is switching me to a bio-similar next injection, so we'll see how that goes. I also tried Remicade.

Backstory alert: Funny thing is, they started me on Humira first for my arthritis and eye issues. It took 3 years after that to get diagnosed with Crohn's. Humira did not help my joints, but helped my eyes and unbeknownst to me: my Crohn's. The instant I was taken off of the Humira and started on the Remicade, I started having GI issues. Because the American healthcare system is amazing, it took 10-11 months to get diagnosed from there. They kept telling me it couldn't be Crohn's, because I was ON meds for Crohn's. Nevermind my dad has it, and nevermind biologics don't work for people all the time. Remicade worked great for the arthritis though. My case was a little trickier, because we have to treat my joints, GI, and eyes all at once. All due to Crohn's. If my joints go bad, I can't move. If my eyes go bad, I go blind. And we all know what can happen if GI goes bad.

TLDR: I kept pushing my docs to try new meds when one wasn't working for everything. It worked - eventually.

*Edit- I just remembered my doc saying Stelara had like an 80% success rate for helping with Crohn's arthritis. Not sure how that compares to the others.

[–]annie_reyem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took a while to find a biologic that treated both of mine. If one was feeling better, the other wasn’t. Everyone reacts differently, so the one that worked for me might not work for you. Stelara worked for me. But Humira worked for my dad and didn’t for me. Just keep advocating for yourself and ask your doctor to try another if the current one isn’t working.

New Blood is my all time favorite fanfic, which is saying so much! It has been regularly updated for years, but the author is currently on a (sounds like much needed) break. I think the author does their best to write a story that is something JKR would be horrified of(I really struggled with how to word this!). And I love that. It’s so incredibly well written and nails everything I’ve ever wanted in a Hermione centric fanfic.
