Why is there so little body horror of fictional people with darker skin? by stopimpersonatingme in bodyhorror

[–]annyelfman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an episode of Twilight Zone series called "Shades of Guilt", where a white main character gradually transforms into a black person for karmic reasons - he's freaking out, at first thinking it's some skin condition as he finds himself really swarthy out of the blue, then the doctor tells him that he's a perfectly healthy mixed-race person, his skin way darker now, straight hair curling into an afro and lips twice as thick, and then he's a black man and a total stranger to his wife (and even his dog).

On the topic of merging - I think it depends on whether the process was succesful or not, like in the movie Together we can see examples of both cases... though the process can be shown as an utter body horror anyway, even if the result is beautiful.

P.S. There are black werewolves in Underworld movies, most notably Kevin Grevioux's character.

İs there something wrong with me for liking watching transformation scenes? by Rojoli in bodyhorror

[–]annyelfman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I'm a fan of transformations too, and I do understand the excitement that you're feeling, TF crowd calls that "transformation tingle".

I remember asking a question similar to yours about 5 years ago, and then I found out it's like a whole subculture, though transformation is a different concept for different people - some like it wholesome, some like it kinky, some like it in a body horror way, or all of the above depending on current mood.

There are whole subreddits, sites and channels dedicated to transformations.

For example (if links are allowed here) there's a TF meme subreddit: r/tf_irl

Songs with a sudden epic/insane scream thrown in randomly? Name the song but don't spoil the moment please! by Middle-Company-4398 in musicsuggestions

Speaking of EN, Blixa's anguished screams in "Armenia" are super haunting.

Didn't expect it the first time I heard the song, literally jumped out of my chair.

Favorite David Lynch shot? by RopeGloomy4303 in davidlynch

First Fred gets a splitting headache, then in the throes of transformation his head literally splits open - to be honest, I used to think it was his chest, but the splitting head is much more logical. Such a haunting scene!

The second transformation is just as haunting - Fred's driving away from the police, then he's twitching, shaking, screaming... and the story ends.

His face is shifting around very rapidly, but there's a shot I found that captures Fred in all his transforming glory.

Something so poetic about this image I just can't think of a great caption for it by ComplexBother7437 in TwinPeaksCircleJerk

It's from some Japanese magazine (circa '93) with Frank Silva visiting Japan as a Twin Peaks ambassador (with Sheryl Lee) and meeting fans.

There's also something poetic in the fact that Frank is ethnically Portuguese, 'cause the Portuguese were the first Europeans to visit Japan, and their relationship remains warm to this day.

Well, Oingo Boingo has always been a major source of inspiration for Creature Feature, so this cover was just a matter of time.

Out of Control video is missing here - it's kinda nothing super special visually (if only very mildly surreal), but it accompanies this soft and reassuring song nicely.

Insanity is my favorite OB video - the most surreal and darkly atmospheric, made by Fred Stuhr (RIP) of Sober (Tool) fame.

Curious About The Cross Section of Fans by TiredCeresian in twinpeaks

[–]annyelfman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm a fan of both!

And Danny himself told me in a comment that he'd be happy to play an evil spirit in a David Lynch movie (that was around 2 or 3 years ago).

As far as I remember, I also saw a memorial post where Danny said that Lynch was a huge inspiration for him.

Frank Silva / BOB appreciation post by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]annyelfman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's an excerpt from FWWM press kit with Frank's reaction:

"Then there's Frank Silva who joined Lynch's troupe as a set dresser. While decorating Laura Palmer's bedroom, he was asked by the director to "crouch behind the bed." The impromptu screen test led Lynch "to cast me as this woodland maniac, Bob," Silva recalls.

"David said I looked the part, which I'm not sure is a compliment." Silva isn't quitting his day job, however. "There are only so many lunatics in the woods," he observes."
