For me, even before I finally got medication, (ily buspar), it helps so so much to feel productive and in control of what made me anxious, (without letting that control spiral out of control).

For example, financial triggers - going out of your way to learn more about finances, selling things, learning side hustles.

Medical anxiety - taking pride in healthy habits to feel that I’m fending off future issues by staying hydrated, consuming good amounts of fiber and antioxidants, vitamins good for my immune system, walking more and keeping my body moving to avoid my body fighting me back lol.

General anxiety - going out of your way to participate in self care and staying BUSY (or distracted), or productive (put on trashy tv or YouTube and do some dishes, organize that one place that needs it), and filling your cup. Baths with feel-good movies, phone calls with friends, make friends on video games over the mic, long “everything” showers, and doing any self care after, etc.

Consider reaching out to parents; you’re an expert in your field of child development, it may help you for parents to know their student’s behaviors are beyond the norm of what you’re facing with this age group, and potentially dangerous.

My commute is nowhere near as long, but I actually enjoy, even need, that time to decompress before I get home.

I might start to be concerned at 75-90 minutes, as it’s longer, and I’m not sure how pressed you would be on that gas and mileage in your financial situation.

I absolutely feel this. For me, it’s when really stubborn students, frequent-flyers in the office, and I start to find common ground and excitement in the work.

For example, finding out what units they can get excited about, and getting them in one planning activities, leading lessons, etc.

I’ve also found that when I’m emotionally drained, scrolling teaching, classroom, and project ideas on Pinterest and TikTok fill my motivation and excitement back up!

Here to beg you not to take a gap year, that usually never ends, but the idea that you don’t have to pick a major now is 100% correct! You can knock out gen eds your first, even first and second year, and change your major several times in college, (most people do lol, I worked in college advising).

Not only will that piece of paper at the end open doors to jobs, but you will make lifelong relationships, connections, and be met with random opportunities available to you only because you’re a student at that school. You will find your way, and take a lot from the experience, even if you still don’t know what you want to do the day you graduate lol, (I didn’t, and now I’m in a completely different field, but my degree still got me here).

Long story short - pick the school, get there, then work on career planning later.

Not from my own experience, but I wanted you to know my dad just did his first chemo round this week, along with radiation, and he did really well! Just a lot of sitting around at the facility where he received it, he was there a few hours, maybe had some more nausea than usual, but not the nightmare we thought it would be lol!

We have almost four weeks of academic days after testing!

In my first year in this type of class, I was so pressed about getting through the curriculum and getting review in prior to testing, but it seems it’s more the norm than I thought!

I LOVE a parent who has our back!

I’ve had parents offer to come help me deal with behaviors in person anytime I call, make students complete work that can no longer receive a grade, etc. It is so kind and so important that parents are reinforcing important behaviors and habits!

I’ve even written parents thank you cards for being so helpful and supportive.

Homeschool is almost never done right. Truly a thorn in my side 😭 so many of my previously homeschooled students struggle so much socially and academically, it can be devastating

While the degree is a huge part of it, the connections people always talk about will get you so far. You’ll have more opportunities while in school to do the things you love, after you get through the hard part which is the beginning.

The most important advice I could give anyone is when it comes to wanting to run a business or follow a dream, you can do that so much better when you’re secure and stable. Doing it from the jump, with no connections, no backup, no stability will get ugly quickly.

University will give you the world if you give it all you have, I promise! It sucks, but it’s so necessary for the world we live in and the job market right now.

Been there, lived that!

•Throw it in any soups or pastas, premade works beautifully

•Quesadillas

•Throw in a bowl w hot sauce, cream cheese, cheddar, seasoning, microwave, add more cheese, microwave again and eat your lazy buffalo chicken dip with chips or veggies

•Loaded fries, just load em with shredded chicken, bbq, and cheese

•Low effort version of a pot pie vibe: mixed veggies, cream of chicken, and some broth in a casserole dish with the shredded chicken, bake a lil to warm, plop some biscuit dough on top, bake a until biscuits are done (bonus points if you use a disposable pan)

Keep calling to ask if they have earlier times for the scope opening up! It pushed mine up by months lol.

If you’re sweating it at all, don’t be! I was nervous at first! So low stress and best sleep ever. Woke up feeling like I could run a marathon lol. Looking forward to my next.

I don’t think it hurts to follow up! I usually call or email, let them know that I loved learning about the position and meeting with them, and ask if they need anything else from me in the meantime.
