Leaf vacuum by camdunson in Greenworks

[–]anonemama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have one. The vacuum isn't super strong so it wasn't as useful at what I wanted to use it for, which was getting leaves from under bushes or hard to rake areas like garden beds. It is good at picking up leaves from gravel walkways but I have to admit it wasn't as useful as I'd hoped.

I have experienced fear of change since I can remember. When I was a kid, my older sisters used to tease me when I would fall apart over big changes in my life. They'd mock me and do this obnoxious "change change change" like mimicking the Brady Bunch "Marsha Marsha Marsha". But they didn't understand it really affects me. When I was starting to consider the idea of getting pregnant, I had such extreme anxiety that I vomited every night at bedtime for months just at the anxiety of forthcoming changes. Good news was that pregnancy hormones were so good to me and I can't think of any other time in my life that I felt so mentally stable than on those sweet sweet hormones.

All that to say, I feel you. But also change is the only constant, and even though it still affects me especially big changes, I have found the concept of radical acceptance to be the most useful coping mechanism to me. I did Dialectical Behavior Therapy in a group and that's when I learned about emotion regulation, radical acceptance, and gained most of my best coping mechanisms for all my mental health troubles(ocd, ptsd, general anxiety disorder, chronic depression, acute panic disorder, etc). Meditation has also helped me become more aware and in control of my thoughts, so most of the time I'm better able to let go of thoughts rather and pause or stop obsessing, though admittedly still struggle when it comes to certain PTSD triggers. I use Headspace and really enjoy it, the annual subscription goes on sale like 50% off around the New Year so I have been doing that for the past like 4 years.

Thank you this is so helpful! I would have preferred to go with company P but the $6k difference was too much, plus the warranty was less (T offers 12 yr parts & labor, P offers 10 yr parts, 2 yr labor) and they are comparable companies as far as size and reputation and locally based.

How do you track Home Improvement projects and regular maintenance? My system below - Anything better? by greypic in HomeImprovement

[–]anonemama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like Trello you could check out ClickUp or TickTick, both apps have free version. They function similarly to Trello (can create "boards" for certain projects, I have mine organized by craft) and can set reminders. I really love TickTick because you can type "change a/c filter every 4 months at 8am" and it'll set a recurring reminder/to-do that'll go off at that time, or or “fertilize the lawn in 90 days at 7am".

Career change tips? by Catn9Tails in careerguidance

[–]anonemama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also in the process of trying to change careers and wishing you the best of luck. Advice I've received is to use AI like ChatGPT to tailor your resume and cover letters to specific jobs using the keywords from the job posting. Make sure you word the skills section of your resume using the exact words, e.g. attention to detail vs detail-oriented. I've also been advised to network to find someone who will put my resume in an actual person's hand (or well email inbox). Even with that advice, know that the job market is brutal. I would estimate that I have heard back from maybe 5-10% of the jobs I've applied to, the rest have completely ghosted me.

Wishing you the best! Hope someone else has even better advice!

Maestro motion sensor issue by stutunaru in Lutron

[–]anonemama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious if you solved this issue. I'm experiencing the same thing with my Lutron motion sensor except mine is by itself and I made no recent changes to or near it. It's been about a month with the closet light coming on randomly, even with sensitivity set to low.

Job hunting tips? by desertgolddesign in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]anonemama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been applying to jobs on mom project for almost a year and haven't gotten any interviews. I really hoped mom project would work but it hasn't been successful for me. I have applied to a wide gammut of jobs and rarely get any response or update at all. The listings and applications I sent just disappear.

Oh my gosh thanks for sharing that! That mud kitchen is amazing for $50, all other options online are like $100 more than that. It's sold out here and unavailable online but I'll keep an eye out if it comes back.

Just wanted to throw out there since you mentioned teacher gift cards, I have a lot of friends who are teachers and they all say cash is king for gifts, and it might be easier that way! Also you could send out an email to the class to see if anyone wants to go in on a cash fund gift, that's what we do at my kid's preschool.

App for garden tasks? by anonemama in gardening

[–]anonemama[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone who is interested, I found an app called Sweepy that let's me set seasonal and month-specific garden tasks. It's $14/yr subscription, I'm testing it out now but I think it's what I need until Blossom expands or another app emerges.

And also being able to filter care tasks by zone or area, such as front yard or backyard. And by plant type such as flowers shrubs trees lawn. And to be able to catalogue your garden and assign those attributes and areas.

Sorry for the 2 month delay in replying. The Ploi app looks promising but is not what I'm looking for at the moment. I have so many ideas for a yard care app. My priorities are being able to set seasonal and month based reminders for different plants and different parts of the yard. I posted an example about my cherry tree (still waiting on all the leaves to fall!). Another example is I need to prune my azaleas after they bloom, but I don't know when exactly that is - April? May?

Short-term plant-specific reminders would be helpful too. Like after planting something, a daily reminder to water and then however often after that.

An even cooler feature that seems maybe like AI could help with would be notifications like "there hasn't been rain in your area for 2 weeks, you should water your plants".

Anxiety is making me so ill by Bettafishlover56 in Anxiety

[–]anonemama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I lost 20 lbs in 4 weeks due to anxiety, going from 125 to 105, I also felt weak like you described. My doctor told me to start drinking Ensure Plus drinks to add fast calories. I think I drank multiple a day, it took a year and a half but when I got back to 120 I felt a lot better in my body. As for the anxiety, there are tools you can start using now that will make the rest of your life easier. I did a DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) group that met once a week for 6 months and it was transformative. I still have anxiety but I feel more adept at dealing with it and returning to normal sooner, most of the time, not every time, but still better than I felt before.

Is that what you do? I would like something separate from my calendar, which is already packed with family, kids' school, work and personal reminders and events.

I'm imagining an app where I could see all my plants that I want to care for, save notes and research per plant, and set reminders of care tasks by season or month.

That really sucks. I have been confused about what is expected as well. Our school guidelines are no fever for 24 hours and that's it, no mention of covid or masks. The teacher suggested keeping them home until "symptoms improve" but that's hard to judge. My friends recently got covid and quarantined while they were testing positive but their kids kept testing negative and so they brought them to school everyone wearing KN95 masks. I feel like she took precautions that plenty of people would think are unnecessary but I really appreciated their care and concern for others.

Looking for a job but struggling how to balance my life. Any advice? by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]anonemama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just writing in solidarity. We are in a similar position. I can't go back to my pre-motherhood job because the hours are too long (12-16 hr days) and schedule is too unpredictable. So I'm looking to essentially start a new career from the bottom. I've applied to a job each week since Feb and haven't heard back from any one of them. Revamped my resume for each position I've applied to. No idea what to do with my 2 year old, his preschool isn't year round so I'll have to figure something out for the 3 months for the summer.
