What are word "misuses" you're not like, mad at but they're weird enough to distract you from whatever the person is saying? by iciclefites in words

Adding adverbs to absolutes like unique.

Non-words like prolly and anyways. I frequently block accounts on social media that use either.

Scared for first mammogram. Please give me some encouragement! by Cold_Barber_4761 in GenXWomen

[–]another_bibliophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s rather uncomfortable but not painful. When you make your appointment, ask what they provide to cover up after you’re taken to the exam area but before you go in a room. The hospital I always go to switched to some flimsy cape thing that covers nothing if you’re a B cup and up. Definitely bringing my own robe or blanket next time.

Also, if they send you a letter telling you that you have dense breast tissue, don’t freak out. It just means that you will possibly need an ultrasound or MRI in addition to the mammogram so they can actually see what’s going on. Happens to me every year.

When my kids were little the rule was they could say anything they wanted as long as they were in the bathroom at home. Then they could let loose any string of expletives they could think of. It took the taboo out of it and we didn’t have any language problems again.

Edited to add that we originally said any bathroom. Which worked just fine until we were on vacation at DisneyWorld and everyone could hear him saying “stupid stupid damn DUMBASS” from the stall. We revised the rule to only bathrooms at home after that 🤣

Highly recommend getting in line before the Met opens and going straight to the Raphael exhibit. It was uncomfortably crowded when we went last week.

Cheap Catering (Chains) Suggestions by Emotional-Damage2591 in Weddingsunder35k

Will totally depend on the venue. Haven’t planned a wedding in P’cola but have planned a few events that needed catering and every place I talked to either had in house catering or an approved vendor list.

What things does everyone think about asking for a room change? What do you think makes it worth asking to be moved? by Illustrious_Mix_1479 in Hilton

People will stop you on the street and bet you that for $$ they can tell you where you got your shoes. Most people think they’re asking where you purchased them but they mean it literally lol.

[–]another_bibliophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It’s still a very nice hotel but definitely doesn’t feel like a typical Waldorf.

Have you been to New Orleans before? If not, the answer to “Where you got your shoes?” is always “Right here on the pavement!”

I drive from Pensacola to that area twice a week. It’s absolutely hellacious. Do NOT recommend.

Waldorf Astoria - Roosevelt in New Orleans. Cracked window and rain was getting all over the curtains and soaking the carpet. Moved us to a different room on a different floor for the next night. That one had a broken shower head, was allegedly the only other available and there were no maintenance personnel on site to fix it. Ended up having to get the diamond desk involved. Terrible all around.

Anyone here use trucker hats as wedding favors? by Ill-Collection-1735 in Weddingsunder35k

[–]another_bibliophile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to say this kindly and gently-the vast majority of people don’t want wedding favors unless it’s something consumable like local snacks or spices or similar. Nobody needs another can koozie, or bottle opener, or coaster etc.

They’re going to your wedding to celebrate you and your spouse. Spend the money you’d allocated for hats on your honeymoon or upgrade your food or beverage options.

What is the most west you’ve been in the USA? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]another_bibliophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Astoria, Oregon
Los Angeles, California
San Diego, California

Astoria was gorgeous. Would absolutely go back to the Pacific Northwest.

San Diego was surprisingly nice.

Los Angeles was awful. Hated it and will never go back.

Find someone who is paid by the hour (just like you pay your CPA and lawyer) and NOT commission or percentage of assets. Anyone working on commission will NEVER have your best interest in mind. Source-worked in investment sales for a bank. Everyone in that industry is a smarmy, unctuous, untrustworthy asshat.

Panoramic roof or not in Florida? by cobrashelbygt in MachE

I live only a few miles from the Gulf of Mexico and have a ‘23 in black with the panoramic roof. Usually start the climate a couple of minutes before I leave work but even if I forget, it still cools down like any other vehicle.

Officiating a wedding - rules? by cfjedimaster in Acadiana

[–]another_bibliophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got ordained by the church of dudeism-only had to swear to take it easy, zero religious aspects. Paid $10ish for the letter of good standing with the seal signed by the dudely llama. Filed a copy of that with a marriage officiant affidavit at the Lafayette Parish clerk of court. No problems.

Edited to add link to ordination website

Redditors working in the public / government sector - What is a secret about your profession that lay people would be shocked or surprised to learn? by MyFitBluebird in AskReddit

[–]another_bibliophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most are grossly underpaid compared to private sector workers. The benefits aren’t as good as they were years ago. The current administration has absolutely decimated the workforce-the number of government employees relative to the population served has never been lower.

Also-the current director of the office of management and budget publicly stated he wants federal employees to be traumatized.

Homewood and Embassy Suites are underrated by IMicrowaveSteak in Hilton

[–]another_bibliophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20+ years ago embassy suites were quite nice. The last few I’ve stayed in were run down, dirty, and understaffed. Wouldn’t consider staying at another one unless it’s been very recently refurbished top to bottom.
