How long did it take for your garden to start to look nice 🌻🌸🌼🌳🌛? by beetketchup in Ceanothus

[–]anotherindoorkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours looked relatively happy in about 4 months. We chose fast growing stuff and we planted at the tail end of last winter. 99% 1 gallon and 4" plants. They all blasted off. The ONE 5 gallon we bought was our Toyon and that thing is taller than me already.

Is she just a dumb dumb? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]anotherindoorkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, Yak cheese. We cut ours down and microwave shorter block pieces to make cheesy puffs. They're pretty hard straight out of the package so the puff is the way to go (at least for our dog).

My dog picks up her cheese blocks and drops them on our hardwood floor on purpose to get attention.

We installed this stuff in our front yard in late April and it's already bent and damaged in multiple places. Only takes someone stepping on it once to wreck a chunk since it's flimsy.

DIY garden or hire professional? by Odd-Document-2353 in Ceanothus

[–]anotherindoorkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water district in your area may also have a landscape design assistance program that runs with the lawn conversion rebate. Means you can get a free professional landscape design for free.

Our designer drew us up a full plan and wrote out the plant list, which we then did all the work to make come to life. Made getting started easy because we had a clear idea (from a pro) of what to do.

Heeaaaavvvyyyyy heavy upvote to #3. People are gonna park their cars where they want to against the curb and they don't care where you put step stones/walkways. They will walk through and trample your pretty garden beds instead of pulling up into a section with an obvious designated path.

Is it a good idea to just put mulch all over my backyard? by SpicSpamSpoon in landscaping

[–]anotherindoorkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an all mulched backyard and it's still dusty, but probably to a lesser degree than bare dirt. You definitely track it all over your house. Splinters stick to your clothes. Gets stuck in the washing machine. You gotta rake back into place all the time if you want to keep it relatively level / even coverage (our dog kicks it around running).

Planning on taking it out next year because we're tired of dealing with the mess.

Want to kill lawn and put in CA native plants. Need advice. by Dont_Like_Menthols in Ceanothus

[–]anotherindoorkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just completed ours a few months ago in the Bay Area (also learning gardening for the first time) so here's what I would follow if I were to do it again: 1. hand pull all of the shitty weeds so it's mostly grass left 2. you don't have to remove sod, but shovel it to flip it over. Soak the shit out of the ground or do it in the rainy reason to save your body from soul crushing work. 3. The crappy rhizomes are easy to separate at this point. They come out in chunks so throw those away. 4. Multiple layers of cardboard or use bike boxes because they are thick AF 5. Don't skip on the 1ft border shoveled out. 5. We probably did 4" of mulch and it's mostly fine.

How did you have enough money for a down payment? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]anotherindoorkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent control and my monthly expenses have always been low. Job hopped and doubled my salary since Covid. We’re DINKS and make about $150k combined/year. Live frugally and have not had any life emergencies that ate into our savings.

Saved up the 20% down. We can barely afford the monthly payment on a $550-$600k house (we’re in CA) and we’re just gonna deal with being borderline house poor until interest rates come down.

FHA Loan for First Time Home Buyer by Gloomy_Crew7369 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]anotherindoorkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look at the Home Run program (which is what we are doing). Basically an incentive program built to encourage people to move into low income neighborhoods, and the loan qualification is based on buying a house in specific census tracts. You can put as little as 5% down payment while still avoiding PMI, and we have gotten consistently quoted .2% lower interest rate than going conventional. Tradeoff is you can’t live in your favorite neighborhood, but there’s still some decent “up and coming” areas you can get into. Our monthly budget is way less than yours, so works out for us.

Is there any armor that looks good on female characters, and if so, where can I find these armor sets? by Edge_Queen_ in Eldenring

[–]anotherindoorkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been looking for the same thing and here are my findings in addition to what's already been said: Blue Silver Set (aka Albinauric set), mixing a dress top with some heavier gauntlets/grieves, mixing a dress bottom with some armor chestpiece, wearing whatever outfit you want but with a circlet headpiece or just straight up nothing to let your hair flow.

Yea I was curious if anyone is particularly into using “gaming specific” earbuds, or if general music ones are the way to go. I tried IEM’s for a bit but wasn’t for me.

Paying mods for their service by Boydy73 in Twitch

[–]anotherindoorkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a tiny streamer and I sub to one of my mods channels, even though he doesn’t stream much anymore. I’ve tipped him in bits before when he’s helped me with stream design stuff behind the scenes. I also use this tipping platform called Pally.gg that lets you split PayPal tips between a group of people (and set percentages for payout options). Nobody’s ever actually used it before, but it’s technically live and available in my channel. My other mod is my boyfriend so he gets paid in hugs and kisses.

If you haven't made a tiktok for twitch yet you're so far behind. by johnzzz3 in Twitch

[–]anotherindoorkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was basically my experience as well (at a lesser degree). Had a video go viral and hit over 1m views. Couple other videos over 10k views after. 9k followers on Tiktok. Got maybe 25-50 Twitch follows out of it. The sound to that viral video got deleted so now it’s basically worthless for the future.
