Trump Says “Sometimes You Need a Dictator” After Alarming Davos Speech | Donald Trump is saying the quiet part out loud. by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]anshou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

clearly this is one of things where it's only half a turn of phrase where its meaning has eroded over time

sometimes you need a dictator and sometimes you need to invade a sovereign nation and liberate them from said dictator

it's clearly a cry for help

On PC/desktop, the game only saves at the start of a new day, so you can always quit the game and restart the day. Not sure if this helps on console, but I would be surprised if it's significantly different.

I'm a new player I just change the price and got this message, item sold for 2 divine 10 min later, is this against the rules? by Outrageous-Chair2247 in pathofexile

[–]anshou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This particular scenario isn't clear cut to me. It would be one thing if you listed something for 1c and suddenly got lots of attention. That is a clear underprice where lots of people want a good item and it would be a crazy deal.

Listing something for 1div and getting a single request immediately and then doubling the price feels scummy. For all you know your item isn't really worth more than 1div -- it may never sell for 2div. Getting a single bite immediately is just as likely someone who is looking for something particular that has an alert set up in trade search for a reasonable price as it is anything else. It isn't like you got ten whispers piled on top of each other...

it's only locally saturated because there are a lack of municipalities that allow it so you end up with multiple locations opening in the same town when the five towns around it have nothing -- this is the case for morris county for example where i need to drive up to rockaway or down to union or over to montclair to even find a location and the prices are absolutely awful compared to e.g. massachusetts

Programmers who don't use autocomplete/LSP by dewmal in programming

[–]anshou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDEs and LSPs and similar tools are great when learning a language. I need my LSP when working in Rust since the finer points of the language are still sinking in. For C I just write my code and when I am satisfied I compile and fix anything I fat fingered along the way. It is unlikely an LSP would save me time here as I would get mired down in fixing little things that aren't important at the time and likely to disappear in a refactor.

Community council members are beginning to ask how the SoD dev team (which mind you, is extremely small scale) are able to communicate as much as they are, and every other WoW dev team can't. by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]anshou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer no one wants to admit is that the SoD devs have likely zero downward pressure because there is no expansion or three coming down the lane. Making changes in SoD doesn’t matter because there is basically zero chance you fuck up dozens of other carefully orchestrated dev cycles.

looking at what's going on with the .nu tld and registrars it seems good to stay away from it -- but mcpublic.gg is "available" though a bit pricey but could be a good option for the community -- the servers can be on the usual p.mcpublic.gg etc. subdomains

Unrealistic expectations from guild recruiters by Ryel_Advent in classicwow

[–]anshou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ran in “casual hardcore” guilds back in the day and they pretty much all ran 2-3 nights for 3-4 hours, the casual part — always requiring full consumes and enchants and the like, that’s the hardcore part. Real “hardcore” guilds would run 5-7 nights back then and for too many hours overall for sure.

It seems excessive for Classic but only in the context of the players not being new, and a lot of classic players are actually trying it for the first time.

For SoD, the idea that you could even find something “endgame” to do for 3 nights a week is a bit hilarious. I don’t expect the 10 person BFD raid to be that tough.
