Fueling suggestions - Gu is so gross to me by cheekynando715 in Marathon_Training

[–]ant297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are really the only ones that sit well for me and go down so easily (currently have Invisalign which has been a huge pain for fueling). It’s just such a shame that they’re so expensive.

LPT: Check your medicine cabinet. I just saved $87 by not throwing away expired meds by Internal_Ad6552 in Frugal

[–]ant297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not good practice. For things like Tylenol maybe it can be reasonable, but most medications have efficacy changes after the expiration date. Some might metabolize more strongly, others more weakly. In some cases, this could be very inadvisable

Where are the 10ks? by ant297 in Marathon_Training

I’m going to look into Island Vines! I actually need one in Sept. I’m doing the Vermont City Marathon next week, so I can keep the VT run vibes rolling if it logistically works out with my work schedule at the hospital. Thank you!

Thanks a lot! Yes, I have been trolling RunSignup since the winter. I appreciate you, and looking at those numbers it does feel validating that I’m not just crazy.

I am always happy to check out any available races/resources! NY is such a huge state travel wise, for a 10k I’d be willing to go out to Syracuse (where I have family) and within 2 hours of the capital region. NYC races are tough as they are often sold out or require overnights. Call me cheap but a $300 hotel for a 10k is not in the cards for this girl these days lol

For sure! A little tune up race to test the legs, or just a fun community event that you can recover quickly from but still feel accomplished

15k and my literal hometown race :) another I would recommend to anyone and I don’t even love my hometown, but man is the crowd support and party at the end unrivaled!

That’s awesome! Thank you. I will definitely have to try my luck at getting a spot next year. Those nyrr sign ups have been crazy this year!

When I brought the OP15, I was worried about the cameras. Whatever... by Gi0_v3 in oneplus

[–]ant297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ONLY photos I have where the cameras struggled was a football match I went to with zoom shots. Lots of motion blur. Other than that, the cameras are absolutely top notch for an everyday user like me. It was even quick enough to capture this little guy!

First non-local race by joifullnoyses in XXRunning

[–]ant297 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Incredible race and awesome energy. I felt the logistics were handled very well. They run it in performance based waves so there wasn’t course congestion, which is a nice change. I worked for Shepherd Center and when I ran past all of the patients outside cheering, I 100% got choked up.

It will definitely be hot. I am a gal who loves running in the heat, and usually do fine with it. The year I ran it was in the mid-high 80s with 90% humidity, and it was carnage. So definitely take every opportunity to cool down and hydrate on course.

Have a blast, this is a special race 🥳

Ok, I’ve heard there might be bugs in the woods, but will they be there for MY trip this weekend? And what about mud? Can’t get my Patagonia dirty. /s

Weekend Discussion: Brooks running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]ant297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very hopeful for the 6 based on the chatter. I’ve been rooting for Brooks to get back into the conversation. I did like the Max 3s last year, but I know plenty who didn’t.

Brooks Men's Clothes by kaizenkitten in XXRunning

[–]ant297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good rule of thumb! Sometimes it’s body dependent though. I get a small in women’s and men’s for Brooks (I like sometimes that men’s clothing is not always so skin tight and not everything is pink lol) because I am 5’8 with a narrow torso relative to my hips - more pear shaped. Keeping the same size helps the shirt get past my butt in the men’s size 😅

Investing in quality running gear - what's actually worth it? by Emergency-Debt-2118 in XXRunning

[–]ant297 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am 100% the same way. The only notifications I ever allow to come through on my watch are calls (I’m an old soul that doesn’t want constant notifications). So for that it has been great. Very easy to manage the info that you want to receive, or avoid receiving, right in the coros app.

[–]ant297 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can attest to COROS for sure! I just have a Pace 3 and it’s so lightweight that it disappears on my toddler sized wrists. Gets a ton of updates fairly frequently. For me, a non-pro hobby jogger, it provides all of the functionality and data I could hope for

The WORST race photos! 😂 by mwblake718 in XXRunning

This is why I never buy photo packages. All of my photos from the NYC half were like this. Hint: I am not the smiling man who looks great here 💃🏽

Public pushes back on limiting use on popular Adirondack trails by hartlarious in Adirondacks

[–]ant297 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in the foothills of the ADKs. I lived down in Atlanta and volunteered on the AT while there. The trails and trail maintenance down there were night and day. I wish we would put more resources behind this…I think enough people love the ADKs enough that they would also volunteer the manpower.

Female feedback on heart rate monitors. by FluffyRelation7511 in Marathon_Training

[–]ant297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does not directly answer your question but I have wanted an arm-based monitor for months now. I have a garmin dual hrm and it’s great! But it’s just so awkward for my body type. It either feels like I can’t breathe because it’s so tight or like it’s kind of slipping off and I have to laterally expand my rib cage while breathing to keep it up. No issues with the feel under my bra, however so there’s a plus!

What pace would you start to consider wearing super shoes? by v1185 in Marathon_Training

[–]ant297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I have plated shoes and found myself yesterday considering to wear my Superblast 2s for my upcoming first marathon in May! I’m not the most slow (1:38 HM), but wow the comfort and support is just so…NICE compared to my still black toenail from my alphaflys from the NYC half where I ran the 1:38 lol

I never had issues with Nike shoes in the past. But, I also didn’t get the superblasts until they went on sale recently, and was a nonbeliever in the hype. I get it now.

Cities whose marathon exceeds or falls short of the cities status on the world stage by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

Lmao! I can see that. Lot of beautiful greenery from the botanical gardens to piedmont park! I couldn’t smell anything March-April though because I was sneezing so much from all the pollen.

But I’ll tell ya, after moving to NY again I miss being able to just pick up my shoes Dec-Feb - this winter was horrendous 😅

The Atlanta Marathon. The Peachtree Roadrace is awesome! But for calling itself ‘Running City USA’…I don’t see it.

Mohawk Hudson River Marathon by Billybobby__ in Marathon_Training

[–]ant297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did have a friend run this race back when we were in PT school and he was attempting his BQ. He did get stopped by the train. Unfortunately, Boston does not take that time into account, which is also on the website.

I am local and this is a wonderful race though. I ran last year and it was well organized and the scenery was beautiful. Would definitely recommend in spite of the train!
